STARTING THE NEXT 100 YEARS Together On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to welcome our students, faculty, staff, parents, families, boosters, and community members to the 2022-2023 school year! Throughout history, human beings have tried to organize time; a calendar is the most common system used to satisfy this task. This year, the District is once again providing our community a unified District calendar organizing time and reflecting important events of the 2022-2023 school year. Last year we celebrated the 100th year anniversary of the consolidation of the City and Township schools as a unified district. Together, we safely provided a first-class education with the full spectrum of extracurricular and co-curricular activities, dances, and social opportunities for the total development of our students, while also empowering students, staff, and visitors to make the necessary health decisions that fit the needs of their families. This year promises to be another exciting year, although it will have its own challenges as we all face the effects of inflation and the effects of the pandemic, especially on children. Just as we ended the first century of our unified existence of the school district, let us start the next century with the same resolve and with the mantra that “together, we can achieve the impossible.” As our strategic plan is titled, “Our children, Our community”, let us remember the great responsibility we have in working together to do what is right and best for our students. Let us also remember those decisions on how to best educate our students are best made at the local level! I hope you enjoy the beautiful artwork of our very talented students contained in this calendar and use this as a resource to organize your time as we move through the seasons of the year. “There is an appointed time for everything, for everything there is a season,” as it is said. Let the 2022-2023 school year be a season of collaboration, determination, success, and prosperity in all that is right and good for the entire Vandalia- Robert M. O'Leary Butler community! I look forward to working with you as we start our next 100 years! Thank you for flying with us, Vandalia-Butler - It is a great time to be an Aviator! Superintendent Vandalia-Butler City Schools
