MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS AND REVIEWS OCTOBER 2018 Tarot card readings….How accurate are they? The experience of reading Tarot cards and gathering accurate details about the life of people is truly a powerful one. For this reason, the practice of Tarot reading is well re- spected by most people. Reading someone’s Tarot is a bit like forecasting the weather. There are plenty of signs, but they are all subject to change. It’s up to the reader to interpret the most likely results or meanings. Tarot Cards are only about 70-80% accurate and you should avoid anyone who claims to be 100%. Cards can be misinterpreted. The psy- chic connection between reader and seeker might not be strong enough. The practice requires the full engagement and willingness from the seeker. During readings, the seeker asks a question and their subconscious selects the cards that represent the answer. The reader’s responsibility is to interpret those messages based on the psychic data he receives from the seeker. Problems can arise for a number of reasons. The seeker may already have reached a conclusion to their predicament or the question they ask might be too detailed for the cards to have room to answer satisfactorily. In addition, they might already have formed an opinion about the answer or they might be framing the question in a nega- tive light. All of these factors can impact on a reading’s accuracy. Most readers are non-judgmental, sympathetic and empathetic but present anyone who is overly negative, aggressive or simply isn’t taking things seriously, then these can all impact on the reader’s ability to make a connection. The role of the psychic isn’t to predict the future, but to help you gain an overview of your own character and your spiritual development. Using this data, the psychic can- not predict what will happen, but can say what is likely to happen if you follow a par- ticular course of action. For example, those who constantly fear failure are likely to continue to hamper their own chances of success, until the problem is highlighted and they take steps to rectify it. You can help improve the accuracy of a reading by going prepared to be honest, open and show the necessary respect. A reader is far more likely to engage with you on a psychic level if you drop your defenses and let them in.

MOUNTAINVIEW RESIDENCE AND TERRACE VOLUME 6 ISSUE 10 page 4 Happy Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Mountainview Residence & Terrace. Please note all activities will not run on Thanksgiving Monday. Independent activities will still run. Wishing everyone a warm and wonderful thanksgiving filled with family & friends. NURSES CORNER: INFLUENZA VACCINE FLU CLINIC It’s that time of year again… Like every year our flu clinic will be a one day event avail- able in the Residence café and Terrace café. This day will be posted later in October when the vaccine becomes available. This is open to all staff, volunteers and residents. We ask that if your health card information has changed to please inform your nursing staff right away so we can have everything ready the day of the clinic. (This is a very busy day!). If we do not have your health card number or the last letters have changed please provide it to us as soon as possible. It is Mountainview Residence policy that all staff and residents get their flu shot. If you cannot attend on our flu clinic day please speak with the nurse to plan another day. If you get your flu shot at a pharmacy or your doctors office we must have a confirma- tion card stating you had it done and signed by a health care professional. Thank you and wishing us all a healthy and safe “FLU” season! Eyecare Express A friendly reminder that Eyecare Express will be coming to Mountainview on October 11th from 10:00 am—3:00 pm to perform eye exams. Eye exams are covered once a year by OHIP. Please make an appointment at the front desk if you are interested in this service. Eyecare express will be bringing a wide selection of designer and affordable eyeglasses to try on for purchase. Hope to see you there!
MOUNTAINVIEW RESIDENCE AND TERRACE VOLUME 6 ISSUE 10 page 5 Shirley & Sheba It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sheba the therapy dog. Many residents have enjoyed her visits over the past years. We offer our sympathy and sup- port to Shirley at this time. Shirley has since adopted another dog named Pepper. They will be in Thursdays at the usual time. Keep an eye out for our new furry friend. Halloween Candy Collection Mountainview will be open for trick or treaters on Halloween. We are collecting treats (or funds to purchase treats) for our trick our treaters! If you have something you wish to donate please drop it off with Nicole or Rachelle in the activity room. Family mem- bers are also invited to trick or treat with us from 5:30-6:30. Please extend the invita- tion to your loved ones. Looking forward to see all of the fantastic and unusual cos- tumes again this year! BOO! Halloween Thursday October 31st we will be having our Halloween bash at 5:00 with entertain- ment to follow. We invite all residents and staff to dress up for this occasion. There will be loads of prizes for the best/most unique costumes of the day! If you need assis- tance with your costume we do have some items you may borrow for the event. We kindly ask to please return any borrowed costume pieces no later than November 1st. This year we have a special treat going on during Halloween day. Tarrot card readings will be available on Oct 31st at 2:00. Sign up sheet will be posted in the activity room. Come join the fun, and have your most inner questions answered. Remember from the front page to come with an open mind and willingness for best results. Haha! The Great Pumpkin Arrival As we know from previous years, Allison’s Farm Market has been sold. Despite this news, last year Bob Allison was able to provide us at Mountainview with the biggest pumpkin in town, weighing in at over a whopping 600 lbs! The pumpkin is driven across town by Bob himself on a tractor! What a sight to see! We look forward to the arrival and hosting of the great pumpkin each year...and this year will be no different !! Bob has done it again. Join us in the café for the arrival of the great pumpkin the morning of Octo- ber 25th! The pumpkin will be on display in the activity for everyone to view and sign for the remainder of the season.
MOUNTAINVIEW RESIDENCE AND TERRACE VOLUME 6 ISSUE 10 page 4 FAMILY BAR-B-QUE MEMORIES Our resident family BBQ was a great success. A wonderful day spent with family, friends, and good food. A great opportunity to meet some new friends, and share laughs. It takes a lot of time and planning to put together such a large scale event. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this day such a joyful occasion. A big thank-you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets in support of the Walk for the Georgetown Hospital. Together we raised $326.00 on $2.00 tickets! Congratulations to: Terrace Resident Mr. Gord Inglis: The winner of the Coffee Time basket!
MOUNTAINVIEW RESIDENCE AND TERRACE VOLUME 6 ISSUE 10 page 5 Highlights of September Our annual corn roast was enjoyed by many residents. What a great way to send off the summer months and celebrate On- tario produce at it’s best. For all the those corn lovers out there: What did the corn say when he got compli- mented? Answer: “Aww, shucks!” This September Mountainview welcomed Halloween Word Scramble the council candidates for ward 3 to hold discussions. MOUNTAINVIEW RESIDENCE AND TERRACE VOLUME 6 ISSUE 10 page 6 You won’t believe these thanksgiving blunders! Some brave souls wrote in to share their stories of thanksgiving nightmares. Yes, these actually happened...I, for one, am thankful I didn't get the invite! “I was not familiar with my friend’s oven ... I accidently turned the self cleaning oven on with the turkey inside” “My cousin didn't realize you had to thaw the turkey, and dinner was served after mid- night instead of in the afternoon.” "Every year since I can remember, on Thanksgiving day, my mother wakes me up by dangling the uncooked turkey over my head. I am not joking." "One year my dad flipped out on my sister for adding cheese to the mashed potatoes to the point where he locked himself in his room for the majority of the afternoon." “My Dad and uncle tried deep frying a turkey, very drunkenly. They forgot about it. The oil went up in flames, and so did the side of my uncle's house!” "In the span of four hours, my mom went into labor, the turkey caught fire, the dish- washer flooded the entire kitchen, and the person making the stuffing didn't know you were supposed to cook the sausage before putting it into the stuffing, so we all ate raw meat." And the award for worst thanksgiving error goes to... “We found one of our cats inside of the Thanksgiving turkey one year. We heard rattling from the kitchen, and when we looked, the turkey was jiggling and meowing. No leftovers that year." ...YIKES!
MOUNTAINVIEW CARE WING VOLUME 6 ISSUE 10 page 7 The Annual Family BBQ was a huge success, as always. It is evident by the smiles. Thank you to our dedicated staff for all the hard work put into this event! We look forward to celebrating October, National Apple Month. Did you know that Ontario has grown on average over 250 million pounds of corn since 2008. Residents en- joyed some juicy ears re- cent at our Corn Roast. Nine week old puppy Sadie joined us for an afternoon. How exciting, starting pet therapy at such a young age is perfect! .
