In order to support its mission, the Church needs every family's active stewardship. To help you discern which ministries your family members may want to help with, we have come up with a key that identifies which age groups can help in each ministry: (A) Adults (HS) High Schoolers (MS) Middle Schoolers (C) Children
Pillar of HOSPITALITY Stewardship of Hospitality Chair: JP Brunke Phone: 228-313-3795 Email: audg15@hotmail.com Welcoming New Parishioners Coordinator: Jill Papsdorf Phone: 620-584-4764 Email: jill.papsdorf@gmail.com Goals and Purpose: To connect with new parishioners and welcome them into the parish family! Provide new parishioner with helpful information, encouragement, and a friendly face as they make St. John’s their home. Volunteers visit new parishioners with either a gift bag (provided by the parish) or a home-baked good. Time Commitment: 10-20 minutes to visit our new parishioners, generally 2-3 times a year Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) (C) Prepare / Serve Meals for Wednesday Night Faith Formation Coordinator: Julie Hubl Phone: 316-648-2519 Email: juliehubl@yahoo.com Goals and Purpose: Provide supper for our 6th-12th grade students every week. They come hungry, and it's our job to feed them physically so they are ready to be fed spiritually. Responsibilities include cooking the meal, serving the food, and cleaning up after. A budget is provided to help with the cost if needed. Time Commitment: One or more Wednesday evenings between Sept-April. Meals are served at 7:00pm. Virtus Required: No (A) Parish Picnic (Summer) Coordinator: JP Brunke Phone: 228-313-3795 Email: audg15@hotmail.com Goals and Purpose: This ministry plans the annual picnic for the parish family to gather for food, family, and fun. Help is needed to set up, cook and serve food, run the games and activities, and clean up. Trunk or Treat (October) Coordinator: Kelly Belton Phone: 620-545-7057 Email: gabrielshorn@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: To provide an event for the children of our parish to celebrate All Saints Day. Help is needed to plan and run the event as well as decorating trunks and handing out treats. Time Commitment: 2-3 hours on the day of the event Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) Parish Dinner (December) Coordinators: Juliana Handy and Andrea Kaiser Phone: JH: 316-833-9063 / AK: 715-207-2235 Email: julianahandy90@yahoo.com / apblkaiser89@gmail.com Goals and Purpose: We gather on the feast of St. John the Evangelist, December 27th, to celebrate as a parish family. Help is needed to arrange for invitations, food, music, decorating, clean-up, etc. Time Commitment: Time needed to make arrangements varies. A few hours before the event to set up, the event usually lasts 2+ hours. Additionally they provide meals for funerals & receptions for sacramental celebrations. Time Commitment: Meetings are held the 1st Monday of each month Virtus Required: No (A) Funeral Vigil Reception (Donate Cookies or Serve) Coordinator: Susanne Pauly Phone: 316-641-3589 Email: k_spauly@hotmail.com Goals and Purpose: The Altar Society hosts a coffee & cookies reception following all Funeral vigils for the family to visit with their guests. We hope to make everyone feel welcomed and cared for when they are here at St. John’s. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) Donate Salad/Desserts for Funeral Dinner Coordinator: Sandy Youngers Phone: 316-347-5132 Email: nsyoungers@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: Funeral dinners are a vital ministry provided by the Altar Society for the family and friends of the deceased. The Altar Society relies on stewards to provide various salads and desserts for the funeral dinners. Time Commitment: A few times a year when there is a funeral Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) Prepare or Serve at Funeral Dinner Coordinator: Sandy Youngers Phone: 316-347-5132 Email: nsyoungers@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: The Altar Society provides funeral dinners for the family and friends of the deceased after the funeral. They rely on stewards to assist them with cooking the main meal, serving the food and drinks, and cleaning up on the day of the funeral dinner. Time Commitment: 2-6 hours Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) Set up and Take Down Tables Coordinator: Sandy Youngers Phone: 316-347-5132 Email: nsyoungers@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: This ministry assists the coordinators of Funeral Dinners by setting up tables and chairs in the parish center before the Funeral Vigil and helps to take them down after the Funeral Dinner. Knights of Columbus Council #3114 Grand Knight: Colton Ricke Phone: 316-249-8519 Email: clonmel.schulte.kofc@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: This council is active in parish events, sponsors athletic programs, Religious Ed, and Totus Tuus, donates to missions and parishioners in need, and provides maintenance for parish facilities as needed. All Catholic men 18+ are encouraged to participate. Time Commitment: 2nd Thursday of the month at 8:00pm Virtus Required: No (A) Daughters of Isabella Coordinator: Karla Dick Phone: 316-772-6925 Email: luvdmouse57@hotmail.com Goals and Purpose: Auxiliary to the Knights of Columbus. Attention is directed toward the development and growth of spiritual, social, charitable, patriotic, and physical aspects of members’ lives. Yearly fundraiser supports Birth Line. Pillar of PRAYER Stewardship of Prayer Chair: Clark Fichtl Phone: 316-570-8832 Email: clark@fichtl.net 40 Hours of Adoration Coordinator: Madelyn Halstead Phone: 620-545-7171 Email: mhalstead@stjohnsclonmel.org Goals and Purpose: To foster devotion for the Eucharist in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. A great way to spend time in prayer with the Lord. Time Commitment: 1 hour a week between 8:00am Monday through midnight on Tuesday, or as a substitute to be contacted when needed. Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) (C) Sacristan Coordinator: Lynn Robertson Phone: 316-341-4085 Email: lrorthorn04@gmail.com Goals and Purpose: Sacristans prepare the sanctuary before Masses and other liturgies, place liturgical objects to be used and assist the priests and liturgical ministers as needed in preparation for Mass. Some Mass Sacristans help with Sunday and weekday Masses as well as funerals, weddings, and special liturgies. Time Commitment: 30-45 minutes at each Mass you’re scheduled at. Virtus Required: Yes (A) (HS) Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion Coordinator: Madelyn Halstead Phone: 620-545-7171 Email: mhalstead@stjohnsclonmel.org Goals and Purpose: The honor and special privilege of the EMHC is to assist the celebrant in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. Diocesan training is required for this ministry. Time Commitment: One weekend Mass approximately twice a month Virtus Required: No (A) 6
Lector Coordinator: Kelly Belton Phone: 620-545-7057 Email: gabrielshorn@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: To proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word at Mass. Lectors process in with the Gospel, proclaim the 1st and 2nd readings, and lead the general intercessions. Time Commitment: One weekend Mass once or twice a month, time spent practicing the readings during the week Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) Ushers / Mass Greeters Coordinator: Madelyn Halstead Phone: 620-545-7171 Email: mhalstead@stjohnsclonmel.org Goals and Purpose: To serve each person in our church, welcoming them in a positive, friendly, spiritual manner. This primarily includes greeting guests as they enter, helping them find seats, taking up the collection, handing out the parish bulletin, and wishing everyone a good day at the conclusion of the Eucharistic Celebration. Time Commitment: One weekend Mass once or twice a month Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) (C) Present Offertory Gifts Coordinator: Madelyn Halstead Phone: 620-545-7171 Email: mhalstead@stjohnsclonmel.org Goals and Purpose: Participation in the celebration of the Eucharist by presenting the gifts of bread and wine, and offertory collection to the priest. Time Commitment: One weekend Mass every 2-3 months Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) (C) Rosary Leader Before Mass Coordinator: Madelyn Halstead Phone: 620-545-7171 Email: mhalstead@stjohnsclonmel.org Goals and Purpose: To pray the Rosary as a parish family in preparation for the Sunday Mass. A parishioner is needed to lead the prayers of the Rosary for the parishioners during this time. Time Commitment: 30 minutes before Mass when scheduled Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) 7
Altar Server Coordinator: Fr. Altar Servers can assist during Sunday Mass, Weekday Mass, and Holy Day Masses. Training is provided for Altar Servers. Time Commitment: 1 hour per week when scheduled Virtus Required: No (HS) (MS) (C) Instrumentalist Coordinator: Kelly Belton Phone: 620-545-7057 Email: gabrielshorn@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: For parishioners who play an instrument and would share that gift with the parish, to lead the congregation in celebration of the Liturgy with musical accompaniment. Time Commitment: 1 hour at scheduled Mass + practice time Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) Cantor Coordinator: Kelly Belton Phone: 620-545-7057 Email: gabrielshorn@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: Cantors are called to minister to the people gathered at Mass by inspiring them, through music, to celebrate Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. This includes leading the hymns and acclamations and singing the psalms at Mass. Time Commitment: 1 hour at scheduled Mass + practice time Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) Overnight Prayer Vigil Coordinator: Jacob Belton Phone: 316-249-5251 Email: jtbelton@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: To pray for the Soul of our fellow parishioner after their death. We keep vigil in in the church in prayer with their body after the rosary and leading to the funeral. Time Commitment: 1 hour overnight when there is a funeral Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) 8

Stewards in this ministry lead play with the children and watch for their safety. Time Commitment: 1 hour a month, Sunday morning 9:00-10:15am Virtus Required: Yes (A) (HS) (MS) Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Coordinator: Vonnie Oberley Phone: 316-708-2267 Email: vanyaob@gmail.com Goals and Purpose: CGS is rooted in the Bible and Liturgy of the Church for ages 3 and up. Catechists provide hands-on materials that assist the child to grow in love of the Good Shepherd. Training is available for those interested in becoming catechists or serving as assistants in the atrium. Help is also needed making materials. Our goal is to help every young person to encounter Jesus Christ. The faith is handed on through weekly Religious Ed classes that Catechists teach from the provided curriculum and lesson plans. Stewards are needed to assist the team in a variety of ways: host the team over night for the week, provide lunches, host dinner for the team, and providing adult supervision during the program. Time Commitment: Varies and is flexible with each individuals availability. Can be once a week or as needed for special projects. We take donated religious books, movies, devotionals, ect., process them, and make them available to the parish through the library in the back of church or in the parish center. This could be candid pictures taken during events or professional pictures of celebrations like First Communion. Discretion, confidentiality, and accountability are necessary to participate in this ministry. Each week a member of the Flower Committee is tasked with updating the flowers for the Sunday Masses. Time Commitment: Each member is in charge approximately one week per month Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) Wedding Coordinator Coordinator: Fr. Offer a knowledge of parish guidelines (provided by the pastor). Be present to coordinate the wedding rehearsal, ceremony, answer questions, and ease anxiety. Church Cleaning Coordinator: Audrea Brunke Phone: 316-304-1476 Email: audg15@hotmail.com Goals and Purpose: A unique opportunity to love God and neighbor. Just as you feel ownership of your own home when you take care of it, the feeling of 'home' is ever so present when you are within the quiet church doing your part to help keep it beautiful and inviting. Stewards work in teams of 2 to clean the Sanctuary, Sacristy, vestibule, bathroom & loft. Cleaning instructions and all cleaning supplies are provided for your convenience. Time Commitment: You typically only have this opportunity to clean a few times a year. When it is your turn, you can come anytime after Friday at 9 am and you need to be done by Saturday at 4 pm. It typically takes 2 hours. The Lord’s Diner Coordinator: Karla Dick Phone: 316-772-6925 Email: luvdmouse57@hotmail.com Goals and Purpose: A not-for-profit soup kitchen in Wichita that provides an evening meal to those in need, no questions asked.. Volunteers help serve food, bus tables, wash dishes, serve families, and clean up afterwards. Time Commitment: 2nd Monday of the month, 5:30-7:30pm. Volunteers are required to take an online class to obtain a food handlers card and an orientation before volunteering. Virtus Required: Yes (A) (HS) Meal Train Coordinator: Ashley Lange Phone: 316-652-5037 Email: ashalange@yahoo.com Goals and Purpose: Provide a fresh or frozen meal to help long-term caregivers, those returning from hospitalization, families of newborns as well as families coping with terminal illness. Time Commitment: When needs arise the coordinator will send out a sign up genius, it will be up to you to choose what day to provide a meal. Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) Home Visitation Teams Coordinator: Janis Query Phone: 316-259-9022 Email: janisquery1621@yahoo.com Goals and Purpose: To visit parishioners, offering friendship and the love of Jesus to those we visit. Time Commitment: Visitation teams visit or call their home visitation friends once or twice a month, with 1 Saturday morning meeting each month. Virtus Required: No (A) 16
Visit Nursing Homes Visit Nursing Homes Coordinator: Kelly Belton Phone: 620-545-7057 Email: gabrielshorn@sktc.net Goals and Purpose: Children and adults visit the Clearwater nursing homes as a group and perform piano solos, sing songs, tell jokes, recite poetry, and distribute pictures they have colored for the residents. We hope to bring Christ into the lives of the residents through a joyful presence and by sharing our talents. Time Commitment: We hopefully await a time when we can resume regular visits without fear of health risks. Virtus Required: No (A) (HS) (MS) (C) Pro-Life / Respect Life Issues Coordinator: Elaina Maus Email: stjohnsprolife@gmail.com Goals and Purpose: To renew our knowledge about pro-life thought and work and engage in thoughtful conversation and pro-life efforts. Sponsoring events, especially during Respect Life Month in October, and cooperating with the Diocesan Respect Life and Social Justice Office in defending the right to life and human dignity of the unborn, elderly, and disabled.
