SENIOR STAFF HANK SPROULL – Air Milford CEO With over 40 years’ experience in aviation, Hank is a flying enthusiast and one of the longest serving to General Aviation (G.A.) in the area. Growing up in nearby Te Anau, Hank moved to Queenstown in the early ’70s to begin an Aircraft Engineering apprenticeship with Mt Cook Airlines (now owned by Air New Zealand). Like many kids however, the dream was always to pilot the machines he so meticulously cared for. During the ’80s and ’90s Hank flew for the Hollyford Tourist Company and Mt Cook Airlines, sharing his passion for the Fiordland outdoors with the travelling public. In the year 2000 he and wife, Kerrie, took sole ownership of Air Milford calling on all of their business skills to develop the company into the successful, 5-aircraft operation that it is today. Hank has not lost sight of his goal to offer personalised sightseeing tours, which is reflected when customers are personally shuttled to the airport by Kerrie, and quite often share the privilege of flying with Hank. He combined his studies in tourism and child born love for aviation to attain a commercial pilot’s licence in 2014. “Words cannot describe how much I enjoy working in our family business – it’s truly a dream job. From the cockpit of our aircraft, to travelling and marketing the business at trade events, every day presents a unique office environment. I’m proud to be given the opportunity as a 3rd generation pilot, born & bred in the Queenstown region. To combine my love of the local geography with flying, is something I enjoy sharing with our international tourists especially.” Outside of the business Antony is still involved in his former ‘Motocross’ career actively coaching the younger generation. MILFORD SOUND
Situated on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, approximately 75km (40nm) due west from Queenstown, Milford Sound is a world renowned area of extraordinary beauty. Milford Sound is the northern most fiord in Fiordland National Park, which measures 12 km long and is up to 320 metres deep. The fiord receives an average yearly rainfall of approximately 7.5m (300 inches) because it is situated on one of the world’s most formidable coastlines, which is subject to rapidly changing weather conditions. The weather is famous for its ability to deteriorate or improve within a very short period of time. These dramatic weather patterns result in some of nature’s most amazing scenery transformations, especially when viewed from one of our Milford Sound scenic flights. At any time on the fiords visitors may see our New Zealand Fur Seals, Bottlenose Dolphins, penguins and other New Zealand native wildlife. Air Milford offers five major options that include Milford Sound: 1. Big 5 Glacier Flight (new product) 2. Fly/Nature Cruise/Fly 3. Wet Weather Option 4. One-way Flight 5. WET WEATHER OPTION: FLY/COACH/CRUISE/COACH/FLY Air Milford - 2018/2019 Wholesale Compendium 18
Milford Sound experiences heavy rainfall, high wind, or a combination of the two, on an average of 200 days per year. This inhibits direct flights on these days. Air Milford combats this trend by offering a ‘wet weather’ option – flying to a private airfield that can be sheltered from these conditions. Our Te Anau Downs airstrip is situated on the Milford Road and is a quick 1 1/2 hour ‘private’ coach tour into Milford Sound. This takes in the most scenic part of the highway (including the Homer Tunnel), linking with a Milford cruise, and retracing the route to return. This option is suited to guests who experience continuous bad weather during their stay in Queenstown, and don’t want to coach the 13 hours from Queenstown. Please note this option cannot be pre- booked, but is used as a reserve to minimise cancellation. Air Milford - 2018/2019 Wholesale Compendium 19

Doubtful Sound flights take you to a more remote area of the South Island’s rugged West Coast. Visitors feel humbled yet uplifted by the atmosphere of powerful solitude in the presence of the superb physical grandeur of New Zealand’s remote Doubtful Sound. Sometimes called “the Sound of Silence” there is a cloistered serenity within Doubtful Sound that is a contrast with its near neighbour, Milford Sound. The fiord is rich in flora and fauna. Often our visitors on a scenic excursion will see New Zealand Fur Seals and in the penguin breeding season the Fiordland Crested Penguins can be seen on many of the small islets in the entrance of the fiord. At 421 metres, Doubtful is the deepest of the fiords and is long and winding with three distinct ‘arms’. The distance from Deep Cove to the open sea is around 40.4 kilometres. It is also home to New Zealand’s other highest waterfall – the Browne Falls at 836m (2,742 ft).
