Pin Up Girls Continued from Page 1 …. Finalist Maelynn Mitten has been participating in pin- up contests for the past four and half year, including Miss Metro Cruise. She is happy to be able to return this year since the event did not fit in her 2019 schedule and everything was shut down in 2020, adding with a laugh, “It is like the year didn’t even happen.” “I love doing this and I think it is a lot of fun,” finalist Teena Marée said. “Everyone works to make sure that it is a positive experience.” Positivity about women is what finalist Aurora Re’Belle, a historian, believes that pin-up competitions help showcase. “I was involved in the preliminaries in 2019 and I loved the spectators and the friends I made,” finalist Bee Bee Von Schweetz said. Unfortunately, the world shut down last year but this year, as things started to open up, I decided to give it a shot. So this is my summer of being a pin up.” There were a total of 15 girls who competed in the Sat- urday preliminaries. The final 10 will compete for the title of 2021 Miss Metro Cruise during Saturday’s events at the Roger Plaza staging area. The top ten moving on to the finals are (all are pictured above): Bee Bee Von Schweetz, Dr. Joules Kelvin (Julliet Brown), of Lansing; Trudy Blue (Beth Miller), of Three Rivers; Victoria Jean (Cathy Jean Swanson), of Grand Rapids; Margaux Mon- roe (Raluca Simion Theron), of Romania; Gigi Martini (Sarah Gillman), of Grand Rapids; Maelynn Mitten (Jaime Collick), of Port Huron; Sweet Caroline (Caroline Kelly Wright), of Rockford, Ill.; Teena Marée Chamber President Bob O’Callgahan thanks Wyo- (Krystina McNamara), of Mecosta; and Aurora Re’Belle, ming Moose Lodge and the lodge administrator (Erin Wiseman-Parlein), of Jenison. Michigan Moose Charities, Sooooo….what is it? This is to explain what some of the state and international projects are. If you would like to help out with any of the projects, please submit a check and the form on Page 16. Case or Cash helps provide perishable and non- perishable food items for Our Children at Moose- heart. We collect donations of food or dunds to go and purchase food and supplies to help the houses at Mooseheart! The Safe Surfin’ Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit Cyber Safety and Responsibility educational initi- ative, created by law enforcement professionals in 1998, and dedicated not only to protecting youth from those who would do them harm, but pro-actively educating them in the safe and responsible use of today’s ever-changing technology. Together, we’re improving and saving lives. Please join us in our quest. The R. Robert Dale Scholarship program has been modified and renamed as the new “Heart of the Community Scholarship Program,” because R. Robert Dale funds were expended years ago, and the program is now being supported solely by the Moose Fraternity. We believe this more accu- rately reflects the fraternity’s commitment to supporting youth in the community. Youth Awareness For more than 25 years, we have organized high school students into a highly effective speakers’ bureau with the goal of educating preschool and elementary school-aged chil- dren on a variety of topics, including drug and alcohol abuse, child abuse, “stranger danger,” bully- ing and peer pressure, and healthy habits and nutrition. Through Moose Kids-Talks presentations, participants in the program have reached an audience more than 750,000 children throughout North America. Students also have a chance to compete for $30,000 in college scholarship money that is awarded annually through this program. Founders Day Program Each year before Halloween we visit Mooseheart as an Association for a weekend of meeting the children and seeing the campus. We collect donations to help with the Re- verse Trick or Treating where we go house to house and hand out candy for the whole house. We also collect for the Senior Watches that cost $65 each, or for the Haunted House and Pumpkin dec- orating event. Members are encouraged to come along and see out Child City. Rev It Up/Wertz Warriors- working with these 2 groups for Michigan Special Olympics - The mis- sion of Special Olympics Michigan is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Athletes develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy while participating in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship among their families, Special Olympics athletes and the community. The athletes achieve their dreams with the support of caring volunteers, coaches, family members and staff. Donations from Michigan citi- zens and businesses provide funding for the program. Mooseheart Lights (Separate Check) Every Association donates money towards the Christmas Lights every year. The tree lighting ceremony is the first Saturday of December every year. People drive around the campus and make donations to see the Christmas Lights. Capital Project (Separate Check) Each association takes on a Moose Charities Project as their Core Project. Michigan is continuing with the MAC (Moose Activity Center) project for Moose Chari- ties as their Core Project which in turn is the MMA Capitol Project. 17
