Our Lady of Lourdes - St. Adalbert PARISH GOOD NEWS December 2021 Email story ideas to Christine Dougherty at cmd.dangelo@gmail.com Our Lady of Lourdes St. Adalbert 2110 S 32nd Ave 2617 S 31st St MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR We hope you had a happy, healthy, and blessed Christmas with your loved ones this year despite the ongoing challenges we are all facing. Remember there is always an open door here at Our Lady of Lourdes, whether to speak with Fr. Vitalis or if you would just rather enjoy the peace and quiet of our beautiful church to reflect and take a moment to yourself. Helping parishioners and our community is one of the many important reasons Our Lady of Lourdes Parish exists. One great way to put a smile on anyone’s face is our annual Christmas program. We had what are now the usual challenges of living through a pandemic with only immediate family able to attend the concert. We also had to reschedule the K-5 program after cancelling school on the original date due to some very interesting weather for this time of the year. Despite these cirucumstances, we feel very fortunate we were able to have the show go on. Thank you to our music teacher Ms. Noden and to all of our students for their hard work that allowed us to enjoy the show. Below are some photos from the K-5 Concert held on December 20th. You can go to our facebook page at www.facebook.com/OLLomaha to watch video of the entire live feed from the Preschool/Pre-K concert held on December 17th, in addition to the K-5 concert. Also below are some photos from one of our Christmas Masses. Congratulations to Fr. Vitalis on his very first Christmas with us! Thank you also to everyone who decorated the church for Christmas...it looked AMAZING as always and it was wonderful to be together in such gorgeous surroundings at the Christmas Masses. We are so grateful for you and wish you all a very happy New Year. We hope and pray that we will soon see a little more normalcy in the months and years ahead. We must remain hopeful and continue to help others, but also take good care of ourselves so we can do that. Many, many blessings to you and all of your loved ones in 2022!
PARISH GOOD NEWS December 2021 H O LY H O U R F O R P R I E S T S On the 2nd Thursday of each month at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, we hold a Holy Hour for Priests. This monthly event was inspired by our parishioner Colleen Huff, who approached Fr. V and requested this holy hour adoration and prayers to support anyone in need during this time of discouragement among priests and the religious. It has turned out to be a wonderful event and we are so grateful for the many people who have been joining us. Thank you especially to Colleen for bringing this much needed support to all those that need it and also for these wonderful photos! 2
PARISH GOOD NEWS December 2021 OUR NEW CHURCH CROSS You may have noticed the beautiful new cross adorning Our Lady of Lourdes Church! Years ago the stone cross above the entry facade was struck by lightning and had to be removed. We chose AO Architects to undertake the recent renovation work at Our Lady of Lourdes and replacing the cross was part of that work. Our new cross stands at 5 feet tall and 200 pounds. It was mounted on a new gable wall cap, requiring a completely custom fit in every aspect of its placement. A digital map was taken of the original to create an exact replica. All the building masonry was cleaned and joints were re-pointed, taking seven mixes to find the mortar that was considered “Just Right.” Williams Restoration performed the masonry work and Renaissance Roofing installed the cross made by Artisan Stone of Omaha. MCL was the general contractor for the restoration work. We are so impressed and grateful with the level of detail and great care taken by all involved to make this project come to fruition. FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE We celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 10:30 am Mass on Sunday, December 12th at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Flowers were placed on the altar for Mother Mary, and following an especially beautiful ceremony, we hosted a Mariachi band and enjoyed food and friends in St. Bernadette Hall. Thank you to everyone whose hard work made this such a fittingly beautiful celebration and to Sonja Puszewski and Marcy Thompson for these wonderful photos! 3
