Meet the Speakers John Young Master of Ceremonies For more than 31 years, John Young presented and reported the TV news on the BBC. He’s now distilled the energy and stories of a career in a TV newsroom into a range of fascinating keynotes and lively consultancy workshops, delivered online or in person. His skills in handling the adrenaline of a live news studio have made him a popular choice in this new age of virtual event hosting. John is a senior member of the Professional Speaking Association. John joined the BBC from Cambridge University as one of 12 news trainees in 1989. This provided him with two years’ training in BBC editorial standards before choosing his path as a news reporter and presenter in Southampton, Belfast, Truro, Newcastle, Bristol, Brighton and on the BBC’s News Channel. In 2009, John was selected for a year’s secondment as a trainer of incoming journalists at the BBC Academy. In 2013, he set up his consultancy business, John Young Media, running it alongside his BBC work until he left the corporation in October 2020. John uses income from his professional clients to subsidise employability skills workshops for young people who are not in formal education or training. John will take the role as Master of Ceremonies for the Engage Europe conference and the Engage Europe Finance Awards. Karen Warren, KW Inner Strength “Leading and Motivating Remote Teams Effectively” Personal Development Specialist, Karen Warren will lead this interactive session to identify ways to lead and motivate remote and hybrid teams. By communicating effectively, supporting and motivating each other, delegates can identify ways to navigate the challenges of remote and hybrid-working solutions. Leading and motivating teams can be challenging, particularly if people are working remotely or are adopting a mix of remote and office-based working arrangements. This session will help line managers and team members to consider how they can best work together across remote and hybrid working arrangements, to communicate well, support and motivate each other in business. Karen’s session will focus on:

Identify ways to build trust with people working remotely, via two-way communication More About Karen … Karen has over 30 years of business, line management, stress management, workplace coaching and organisational development experience, having in worked in private and public sector organisations to include Barclays Bank, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and the NHS. Karen's passion is to support people to manage their stress and anxiety, build resilience, communicate assertively and manage relationships effectively. Karen works with individuals and organisations to identify and embed wellbeing, personal and professional development solutions into their daily practices through the delivery of coaching, training and consultancy solutions. Karen's ambition for 2021 and beyond is that in time, every employee will feel like that. Peter McBay, Bespoke Integrity Solutions Ltd “Do I need to worry about the “insider threat”? Peter McBay is managing director of Bespoke Integrity Solutions Ltd and a fraud prevention/detection specialist. He will help you to understand potential fraud and financial crime risks from within your own organisation as well as explain some of the pitfalls of not being alive to this threat, and offers some potential solutions. Peter will discuss that whilst it is common to implicitly trust all your employees and colleagues, this approach may not always be in your organisation’s best interest- looking at why internal fraud may occur and also specific red flags to be on the lookout for should assist you. He will share some approaches that should help you avoid some potentially catastrophic organisation events – either financial or reputation. Finally, a case study of a recent investigation he has worked on, will be shared to illustrate some key points. Therefore, the key areas of focus will be: 1. What is the “insider threat” for an organisation? 2. What tactics could we use to try and tackle the insider threat? 3. Learn from how it went wrong in another organisation More About Peter … Peter McBay is the Managing Director of Bespoke Integrity Solutions Ltd. This company was incorporated three years ago. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Prior to founding his company, he was an experienced police officer and accomplished financial investigator with over 30 years’ experience. This experience was gained within UK law enforcement and working with international police teams. He is a versatile individual with knowledge and experience of managing tasks and projects linked with financial crime, corruption, money laundering, election fraud, aviation security, extremist related threats and mass disasters. Ian spent over 12 years in the Royal Navy and a further 10 years in the Royal Navy Reserve and Army Reserve where he spent a large proportion of his time with Commando Helicopter Force, operating with the Royal Marines. Ian has also held project management roles within the Ministry of Defence, worked as a leadership instructor at the Fleet Air Arm leadership school in North Wales and was the Commanding Officer of the Royal Navy Reserve Leadership Development Team. Ian not only delivers consultancy and training, he is also a very active coach, supporting a vast array of people on their personal journey through life. Ian supports both individual clients and other coaches. Whilst not operating exclusively in these arenas’ Ian has very successfully worked with sports professionals and leaders alike. He draws upon his organisational development and change management experience to ensure all that he is involved in is grounded in the world of the client.
