From the editor From its inception 15 years ago, Great Walks has been about creating a community of like-minded outdoors people and showing them some of the best places in Australia and overseas to discover on foot. Through hundreds of travel stories and gear reviews, and thousands of inspiring photos Great Walks has become the go-to magazine and website for all things bushwalking. Reader feedback is very positive and this is proven by the fact around half our magazine sales is through subscription. Two recent emails from readers explain this: “Keep up the great work with the magazine which plugs a big hole in sources of up-to-date walking information these days”, wrote Mick Ogrizec and, “Since one of your competitor outdoor mags went entirely about extreme and expensive adventures, Great Walks has become even more crucial. Last of its kind! Good coverage of affordable, accessible, do-able walks”, wrote Sean O’Brien. We are always grateful for advertiser support and we don’t take their investment in us lightly – offering plenty of opportunities for advertisers to showcase their products across the Great Walks print and digital platform. We pride ourselves on the friendly, open-door relationships we have with our advertisers and this is evident with the number of advertisers who have been with us since the inception of the magazine. Great Walks is about achievable aspirations and encouraging everyday Australians to explore our amazing world on foot – with the right equipment and knowledge to do it safely and successfully. And we’ll continue to do so as we race towards issue 100 and beyond. Brent McKean Editor, Great Walks

Photography Competition Wilderness Photographer of the Year 2021 Great Walks is offering up to four unique sponsorship opportunities as we set out to find Australia and New Zealand’s most inspiring outdoor images in the inaugural Wilderness Photographer of the Year 2021 photo competition. Sponsorship packages include a range of media advertising entitlements across print, online, email and social media. Our community has been sending us their best outdoor photos since we started 15 years ago and we love them all. With the launch of the inaugural Wilderness Photographer of the Year in 2021 we’re taking that passion for photography to the next level as we set out to find the most inspiring outdoor images captured by Australian and New Zealand photographers. We’re offering a prize pool of $5000 in cash, plus a selection of prizes from our partner brands. The competition opens in the first half of 2021 and will be promoted across Great Walks’ print, online, Facebook and Instagram channels for five months. Winners and runners-up will be showcased in a special Wilderness Photographer of the Year feature published in a special issue of Great Walks. Simultaneous winners’ announcements will be made at www.greatwalks.com.au and on social media. Wilderness Photographer of the Year offers a unique and exciting opportunity to engage with the Great Walks community on an inspiring and positive project across multiple platforms, including print, online, social media and direct email marketing.
