Meaning in Medicine C O M PA S S I O N A N D C O N N E C T I O N 2020 ACGME ANNUAL EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE Conference Overview This year’s Annual Educational Conference will be held at both the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina and the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotels. The conference theme, Meaning in Medicine: Compassion and Connection, will provide a framework for attendees to reflect on and learn about how the practice of medicine can promote affirming and vital bonds with patients, fellow clinicians, and others in medical education. Attendees will be able to choose from over 145 educational sessions — MORE SESSIONS THAN EVER BEFORE! Attendees will receive detailed information and updates on accreditation, assessment, education, innovations in the clinical learning environment, and many other impactful, forward-thinking learning initiatives and topics. These sessions deliver powerful, motivating, and transformative education on topics covering diversity and inclusion, professional development, and the latest on well-being initiatives. Over the course of three days, the Annual Educational Conference will host close to 300 speakers, several engagement activities, an interactive Exhibit Hall, and the opportunity to gather and network with close to 4,000 colleagues from across the US and the world. The ACGME Annual Educational Conference is the LARGEST graduate medical education conference in the world, and the ACGME is proud to offer a depth and breadth of content that applies and appeals to designated institutional officials (DIOs), faculty members, program directors, program coordinators, residents, fellows, and all others in GME who are passionate about education and collaboration. Conference registration opens in early November 2019. Be sure to take advantage of the Early Bird discount rate before January 3, 2020. Only online registrations are accepted. Attendees must register for sessions to secure their spot, as space is limited – the ACGME strongly encourages attendees to register early. Dunn Keynote Address with Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha. A medical educator, fellowship director, and public health advocate, Dr. Hanna-Attisha is responsible for spearheading efforts to publicize and mitigate the Flint water crisis. Her widely-acclaimed book, What the Eyes Don’t See, will be for sale in the Exhibit Hall Bookstore. A signing will take place immediately following the Keynote Address. Don’t miss Saturday afternoon’s Closing Plenary at 4:15 p.m., being given by Dr. Eric Topol, founder and Director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute, professor of molecular medicine, Executive Vice-President of Scripps Research, and author of Deep Medicine: How Artificial Intelligence Can Make Healthcare Human Again. Attendees are encouraged to download the app when it becomes available to registered attendees. The ACGME Conference Mobile App allows attendees to stay up to date on all conference information and changes, gives access to all speakers and room information, as well as conference logistical information (including maps), and allows attendees to change their schedules at the conference. While the ACGME Annual Educational Conference offers many opportunities to connect, attendees find themselves connecting the most through social media. The Conference Mobile App offers a number of different ways to connect. The ACGME designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 20.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
