Haveirim Y’karim – Dear Friends – DID YOU KNOW Late in the book of Deuteronomy, there’s a moment ...that you can reach when all the leadership of the Israelites declares to Rabbi Rubinger the assembled people: Be still and hearken…this day on-line? you are become a people… Rabbi@ohevshalom.org Although addressed to the community, “be still and Congregation Ohev Shalom Bulletin Published bi-monthly by hearken” – in Hebrew, has’keit u’sh’ma – applies just as much to the Congregation Ohev Shalom leaders. In fact, more so. The best way for leaders to truly understand 613 Concourse Parkway South Maitland, FL 32751 what’s happening under their aegis is listen. 407-298-4650 • Fax 407-636-4080 In a community of any size, there will always be diversity. When decisions are made, it’s impossible to accommodate every individual’s perspective. But that doesn’t mean voices can’t be heard and acknowledged. On the contrary, what has’keit u’sh’ma comes to teach us is that listening and acknowledging are not only desirable in a healthy community, they’re necessary to it. It’s often assumed that there is a lull in synagogue activity in the summer. While it’s true that school is out of session and there are no major Jewish holidays, these months are actually some of the busiest times for your clergy, staff, and lay leadership. Right now, important work is going on to prepare for the coming program year. High Holiday planning is in full swing. Programs are being developed. Religious school registration is under way. Curricula and classes for all ages are in the works. There might not be much visible activity, but there’s a lot going on. This is the perfect time of year to share your thoughts.
