Perth Zoo Excursion On the 29th of March, the Woodanilling students from Pre-Primary to Year 4 were very fortunate to visit Perth Zoo!!! A wonderful opportunity for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom walls. Students left early in the morning with excitement in the air, to catch a bus all the way to Perth Zoo. Upon arrival, just after 10:00am the students made their way to the Main Lawn for a quick recess before heading off to explore. One of the highlights for the students was our encounter with a lioness who was crouching at the back of the exhibit and slowly prowling forward before pouncing down to the glass window! The students learnt a great number of facts about various animals including the tree kangaroo and how they use their tail for balancing. They were also confronted by the old bear display showing how the zoo animals used to be housed. A long day with lots of walking and learning and a lifelong memory. What a fantastic day we all had. I'm sure all the students slept very well that night as well as the adults! The students represented the school with pride and should be very pleased with the way they conducted themselves throughout the trip. See below quotes by students of their highlights: “I learnt about the elephants and it made me happy.” Nicholas “The Zoo was a heap of fun and I loved the lioness pouncing at the window! Seeing Tricia and Permai was also excellent as I like elephants.” Mereki “It was so much fun I wish that we could go back in 4th Term and that we could have stayed longer! My favourite animal was the ferocious lioness.” William A big thank you to all the parent helpers and the P&C for fundraising the money for the bus. Without this support, the students would not have been able to have such a rich learning experience. Katherine Herne Classroom Teacher

WHERE REC CENTRE WHEN MONDAY NIGHTS FOR MORE INFORMATION YOU CAN CONTACT MARJ ON 0428 844 586 Are you over 50? Have you received a Free Bowel Cancer Screening Test Kit in the mail? 2019 marks the first year in which all people between 50 and 74 will receive a National Bowel Cancer Screening test kit every two years. Cancer Council WA is encouraging everyone in the Great Southern that receives a kit, not to put it in the bottom drawer and forget about it, or even worse, put it in the bin, but to do the test and give yourself peace of mind. Less than half of all people receiving the kit in WA are participating. Cancer Council predicts that an increase in participation rates by just 20% could save over 80,000 lives between now and 2040 No need to be squeamish, as most people who have done the test say that it is far easier, quicker and cleaner than they imagined. The kit provides every thing you need to collect the two small poo samples (grain of rice size) and return to the lab, where they look for minute traces of blood. Blood in your poo could mean a lot of different things, but it could be an early warning sign of bowel cancer, so a positive result will need to be discussed with your doctor Approximately 90% of bowel cancers can be cured if detected early.
