T his week, being the first weekend of May which is Our Lady’s month, we’ll continue our discussion of sacramentals with the Rosary. Recall from a couple weeks ago that sacramentals, “are sacred signs which bear a resemblance to the sacraments [but they are not sacraments]. They signify effects, particularly of a spiritual nature, which are obtained through the intercession of the Church. By them men are disposed to receive the chief effect of the sacraments [Grace], and various occasions in life are rendered holy”. (CCC 1667) In praying the rosary, the rosary beads are a sacramental. So, in themselves they don’t impart grace, but they facilitate our ability to grow in sanctifying grace through prayer. So that’s their connection with grace and us. it is a common practice for rosaries and other sacred items to receive the blessing of a priest before they are used. The priest’s blessing provides a “twofer”. The blessing by a priest intensifies the effect of the rosary in preparing our souls to receive the sacraments. However, even an unblessed rosary is a sacramental. Rosaries should be handled with the utmost reverence and respect, blessed or unblessed. There are many benefits to praying the Rosary, not the least of which is Our Lady’s Intercession with her Son. Miracle upon miracle has been obtained by praying the Rosary. The Blessed Virgin in many of her appearances throughout history has directed us to pray the Rosary daily. I know I could do a better job with that. How about you? God Is Good All the Time!. All the Time God Is Good! Don’t forget, join us this Friday and every Friday at 3PM to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet on ZOOM. See the ad in our bulletin or on the parish website for details on how to join in. Hope to see you there! Find us on the web!
