Course overview This focused degree equips you with the technical skills and knowledge of a marketing professional. You'll be trained to use them in real-world situations, so that you are ready to make an immediate impact in your career. You will study a course designed and delivered with the active participation of the industry. You will learn academic theory in depth, and apply it to the real world. This translates into a valuable year-long work placement; modules enriched with live case studies and consultancy projects; and skills training designed to meet the latest marketing trends. Through a flexible mix of core and optional modules, you will cover key topics such as strategic marketing, digital business, and consumer behaviour. It is also accredited by the Institute of Data and Marketing (IDM) allowing you to gain a professionally recognised qualification. All professional accreditations are reviewed regularly by their professional body. Modules and learning Modules The information below is intended to provide an example of what you will study. Most degrees are divided into stages. Each stage lasts for one academic year, and you'll complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each stage. Our teaching is informed by research. Course content may change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline, the requirements of external bodies and partners, and student feedback. Optional module availability Student demand for optional modules may affect availability. You will take a series of core modules designed to give you a thorough grounding in the interlinked principles of marketing, marketing channels, business management and growth. You will also receive practical training in the use of quantitative data analysis techniques. They combine data on the planned delivery and assessments of our courses in 2021-22 with data on the modules chosen by our students in 2020-21. Teaching time is made up of: scheduled learning and teaching activities. These are timetabled activities with a member of staff present structured guided learning. These are activities developed by staff to support engagement with module learning. Students or groups of students undertake these activities without direct staff participation or supervision Teaching and assessment Teaching methods You will be taught through lectures, seminars, hackathons and webinars, often enhanced with innovative technology that allows you to participate in instant anonymous polls and comprehension tests. You will also benefit from our investment in specialist simulation software, which brings your learning to life by putting you in charge of a virtual company. Assessment methods You'll be assessed through a combination of: Dissertation or research project Essays Examinations – practical or online Portfolio submission Presentations Projects Skills and experience Practical skills You will receive training in the design of qualitative and quantitative market research, and the sampling, collection and analysis of marketing data. Through a variety of optional modules, you may also go on client field trips, make marketing and business presentations to clients, or learn business Spanish. Business skills You will gain valuable experience by working on projects for live clients – through regular case studies and our innovative marketing consultancy project in Stage 3. Research skills In stages 1 and 2, you will be given training in the quantitative and qualitative research methods required for collecting, analysing and visualising marketing data, and have the option to study more advanced techniques. In Stage 3, you will conduct your own research to produce a dissertation, or as Page 7 of 12
part of a marketing consultancy project for a live client. Opportunities Study abroad Experience life in another country by choosing to study abroad as part of your degree. You’ll be encouraged to embrace fun and challenging experiences, make connections with new communities and graduate as a globally aware professional, ready for your future. You can choose to spend up to a year studying at a partner institution overseas. If you choose to study abroad, it will extend your degree by a year. You can apply to spend 9 to 12 months working in any organisation in the world, and receive University support from our dedicated team to secure your dream placement. Work placements take place between stages 2 and 3. You'll gain first-hand experience of working in the sector, putting your learning into practice and developing your professional expertise. If you choose to take a work placement, it will extend your degree by a year. A work placement is not available if you're spending a year studying abroad. Placements are subject to availability.
