Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions Horizon 2020 Pillars Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) main EU programme for training and career development through mobility for researchers. Objectives Ensure optimum development and dynamic use of EU’s intellectual capital in order to generate new skills, knowledge and innovation http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/ 2
Individual Fellowship Objectives Increase the creativity and innovative potential researchers from any discipline and nationality, emphasising mobility Provide opportunities to acquire new knowledge by working on research projects in a European context and outside Europe (training through research) Scope Individual and transnational fellowship awarded to the best and most promising researchers Focused on career development Expected Impact Extracting the full potential from researchers and achieve a significant development in their careers in both academic and non-academic sector 4
IF: main actors Researcher Supervisor: scientist appointed at the beneficiary to supervise the researcher throughout the whole duration of the action. Supervisor can be involved in more than one proposal Host Institution (Beneficiary) must be located in a Member State (MS) or Associated Country(AC) recruits, hosts, and trains the researcher sign the Grant Agreement with EC and receives funding from EU Partner Organisation doesn’t recruit the researcher contribute to implementation of the action (host secondment and training) do not sign the Grant Agreement with EC and cannot directly claim any cost 5
IF: Eligibility conditions https://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/ref/h2020/other/guides_for_applicants/h2020-guide-appl-msca-if-2018-20_en.pdf Canditates must be Experienced Researcher (ER) ER must be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at l e a s t 4 ye a r s o f f u l l - t i m e e q u i va l e n t r e s e a r c h experience** at the time of the call deadline **measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree entitling him/her to embark on a doctorate full-time equivalent research experience: PhD does not fully count as "full-time equivalent" research experience. Since Phd Programmes are meant to cover research training, and not only research by itself, the years you spent in the PhD Programme will be counted as “less than 100% research activities”. Ask to your university to quote FTE research experience of your PhD. Comply with a mobility rule: candidates must not have lived and/ or worked in the country of an Institution for a certain period of time Special eligibility conditions for those resuming a career or returning to EU Any Experienced Researcher may submit only one proposal 6

No restriction to nationality applies. Normal award criteria, scoring and thresholds for MSCA – IF will apply. Single ranking list. Note: ER supported by WF will not be formally considered as MSCA Fellows 16
Global Fellowships 17
Global Fellowships Researchers must be MS/AC national or long-term resident Mobility the researcher must not have resided or carried out rule the main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the TC (eligibility partner organisation where the initial outgoing condition) phase takes place for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline Host Institution Same as European Fellowships condition 18
GF - Partner Organisation Partner organisation must be established in a TC ✦ Eligible academic or non academic organisation and IO in TC ✦ Does not recruit the ER ✦ Does not sign the GA ✦ Cannot directly claim any costs ✦ Should nominate a “local “ supervisor for the ER Mandatory to include in the application un up-to-date Letter of Commitment from the Partner Organisation 19
Secondments 20
Secondments During the IF, ER maybe seconded to any organisation in MS or AC Secondments: Can be in the same sector (appreciated different sector, e.g. academic to non-academic) Must be justified: provide additional training and contribute significantly to the impact of the IF Can be split into several shorter periods No letter of commitment is required for secondment HI Can be in an Institution in the same country of the beneficiary No mandatory specification of the secondment HI(s) in the proposal, but essential to give as much information as possible: sector, timing, duration, purpose 21
Secondments Only for GF Initial secondment: possibility to spent up to 3 months in HI or any PO in a MS/AC before outgoing phase. Considered as part of outgoing phase: spent time in TC reduced Maximum duration of the secondment depends from the total duration of the fellowship Duration of Maximum duration of fellowship secondment ≤ 18 months 3 months > 18 months 6 months 22
Secondment vs. short visit Secondments and short visits have different nature and objectives Secondment Short visit aim at providing transfer of aim at gathering data and knowledge and training information clear impact on the project and with limited impact a justified scope an integral part of the research can only represent a small part proposal - linked to the final of the action results planned in advance could be spontaneous can be more than a PO located in location can be chosen freely MS/AC. Country of HI allowed specific supervisor arrangements work supervised directly by at the PO the beneficiary 23
