This is a mass to celebrate and recognise our College student leadership. Parents are most welcome to attend. Mackayla McGowan was recognised at the recent NT Board of Studies Awards for her achievements in Vocational Education, at a ceremony held last week at Government House. From the Finance Dept. School Fees: The first fees statements for 2020 will be issued during Week 5. It will include tuition fees, student levies, family Amos Wachira levy, IT resources levy and electives for Business Manager Term 1. MacKillop News Eagle Group News International News Solar Challenge Anime Club Anime Club has started on Fridays at lunchtimes. The will be showing a new anime every month, with the current one being Laputa Castle Eagle group has launched for 2020, and their major project this in the Sky. semester will be designing and constructing solar powered vehicles. Nongkrong Nongkrong has also begun for 2020. It happens every 2nd week (odd numbered weeks this term) in the Indonesian room in C Block. Host Families Wanted! In Week 1 Term 3 we will have 20 students from our sister school in Japan, Hakata, visiting us, and we are looking for families willing to offer them a room. We also have four students coming from Italy for the whole of Term 3, who also need somewhere to stay. Please get in touch if you can help out. Indonesian Study Tour To fundraise for the Indonesian study tour happening at the end of September, the families involved have organised a quiz night at Cazalys, 6:30pm on the 4th of April. $20 entry. Year 7 News Welcome to MacKillop! This has been our biggest cohort of year 7s ever, with almost 200 students! Mrs Kate McMaster has taken on the job of being Year Coordinator, and is rising to the challenge and loving every minute of it. Modern History News USA 20th Century Weapons Display Two of the members of the Arms Collectors' Association of the NT, Craig Wharton and Jared Archibald, are pictured at the College, educating members of Dr Tom Lewis’s Modern History Year 12 class. The students are studying the “USA in the 20th Century” so the topic for the workshop was “Weapons of the Great War”. Around 50 items were brought in for a 1.5 hour session of handling items, and learning something real about war and conflict. MacKillop College says thanks! (l/r) James Healy, Clare Forsyth Allanah Leslie and Daniel Neuman Bombing of Darwin Commemoration Our College Captains recently represented us with distinction at the Bombing of Darwin Commemoration. On 19 February, they laid book tributes during the ceremony, which commemorate the attack on Australia by enemy forces on that day in 1942, when 235 people died. 188 aircraft from four carriers devastated the town, sinking 11 ships, and destroying 30 aircraft. They are pictured joining former Administrator of the NT - and RAAF veteran from WWII - The Honourable Austin Asche AC QC, before the ceremony, with our staff member and military historian Dr Tom Lewis OAM.
