Rated as one of the top five treks in the world, Machu Picchu is the site of an ancient Inca city, set high in the Andes of Peru. Accident begins life-long support A boating accident on the shores of Lake Macquarie 18 years ago sparked one of the Service’s longest and most valued friendships. Or complete the enclosed booking form and return it with your registration fee of $200.00 paid by credit card, cheque or money order. Cheques and money orders are payable to ‘Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’. Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service / Trek for Choppers PO Box 230 New Lambton NSW 2305 Will I have the opportunity to meet other trekkers before I go? Yes, we will arrange a meet and greet evening for everyone (locations permitting) prior to departure. We will also set up an online community Facebook group where everyone will be able to keep up to date with preparation activities, events and fundraising tips etc. Can I extend my stay? Yes! We understand that it’s a long way to go, so Jayes Travel will have several add-on packages for you to consider or you can choose to travel independently after the trek. NB: Additional travel arrangements are at your own cost. Do I need to have a certain level of fitness to complete this trek? The Inca Trail is considered a moderate hike. It’s not a technical hike but there are a lot of Inca staircases to walk up and down, and the altitude may affect some individuals. Is altitude sickness common? And how high is the Inca Trail? It is impossible to predict who will be affected by altitude. Your ability to adapt to high altitude is determined by your genetic makeup and has little to do with fitness or health. Most people will have no problem as long as they take the time to acclimatise properly. A full day spent in Cusco (3249m), taking it easy and drinking plenty of water, is usually enough for most people. The highest point you will reach while hiking the Inca Trail is 4200 meters. You will sleep at 3600 meters for one or two nights. This trek also allows for further acclimatisation in Hatunsongo for 3 days prior to the actual trek, where we will be taking part in a volunteer program.
