LYTHAM FESTIVAL LIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL Wed 18th - Sun 22nd July 2018 Five days of fantastic music, food and culture brought to Lytham Green with headliners STEPS, George Ezra, Pete Tong, Nile Rodgers & Chic and Il Divo. ST ANNES INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL Fri 31st August to Sun 2nd September 2018 Two days of spectacular kite flying on St Anne’s beach with kite teams from all over the UK and even the Al-Farsi kite team from Kuwait. There are giant inflatable kites, bouncy castles, donkey rides, live music, a Teddy parachute drop and much more, including a new interactive gallery and art fair PROMENART. Friday 31st August sees an evening illuminated kite display! LYTHAM 1940s WARTIME WEEKEND Sat 18th to Sun 19th August 2018 Taking place on Lytham Green and around the town, relive the wartime period with entertainment, spectacular battle re- enactments, historic vehicle displays, aircraft, vintage stalls and so much more at this free event! On the evening of Friday 17th August there’s Leafy Blinders (charge applies) and on Saturday 18th August, there’s Kalamazoo Dance Band (charge applies). RICOH WOMEN’S BRITISH OPEN GOLF Thurs 2nd to Sun 5th August 2018 Taking place at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s Golf Club from August 2nd to 5th, this world class tournament returns to the Fylde Coast for the fifth time and brings visitors and spectators from all over the world. The Championship was last played there in 2009 when Catriona Matthew famously became the first Scottish woman to clinch a Major title, remarkably only 11 weeks after giving birth to her second daughter. THE LOWTHER PAVILION LYTHAM Fylde’s Cultural Hub of Community Entertainment The Lowther Pavilion has a seated capacity for 450 (standing over 800) and has year round calendar of shows, stand up comedy and musicals. It is also a popular event and function venue and offers a cinema programme. If you’re visiting the adjacent Lowther Gardens, pop in for a cuppa at the popular café or check out what’s coming up at the Box Office. LYTHAM WINDMILL AND LIFEBOAT MUSEUM Lytham’s best known landmark Located on Lytham Green, one of the town’s best known landmarks has displays and exhibitions over five floors including a history of the Clifton Family, a history of mills and milling and a full size lifeboat from 1901. RURAL FYLDE Pretty villages and towns Rural Fylde has many little villages, tea shops, country lanes and quality places to eat, yet is only a short drive from the coast, the motorway or Blackpool and Preston. Why not visit The Ship in Elswick, Ribby Hall, The Miller Arms, The Cartford Inn, Glasform or The Birley Arms to name a few? The historic market town of Kirkham appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 under the name of Chicheham. These days there are a good range of shops and places to eat such as Escape Café, Book Bean & Ice Cream and a regular market on Thursdays. For more information follow @kirkhamtown on twitter. For the more adventurous, the Blackpool Wake Park in Weeton has a 10 acre lake for wakeboarding, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and open water swimming. 17
RURAL FYLDE WREA GREEN Home of Lancashire’s best kept village. Wrea Green is a small village lying about 2 miles to the west of Kirkham and is the largest village in Lancashire including a large duck pond, known to locals as the ‘dub’ which is home to a population of well fed ducks. In summer relax and watch a game of cricket or have a picnic in this fantastic village setting. ON TWO WHEELS OR ON FOOT EXPLORE THE AREA Walking & Cycling The area has a good network of country lanes, flat coastal promenade, footpaths and bridleways and there are two Sustrans cycle routes (Route 62 and Route 90) passing through the area. There are many country pubs easily accessible on two wheels to soothe those tired feet! Nordic walking is becoming a regular pastime in the area and you may see groups on the beach at St Anne’s with their walking poles. Other popular local walking routes include Warton Bank to Lytham and for a bracing walk along the estuary and marshland, Naze Point offers spectacular open views. 25
