April 21, 2018 Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of SMCC, Welcome to the 28th annual installment of “An Evening in Oz.” “The Auction…A Celebration for Students!” For nearly 171 years, SMCC, and its parent institutions of St. Mary Academy and Monroe Catholic Central, have provided an outstanding Catholic secondary education to the people of this community. The “secret” to our success over so many years lies in the tremendous dedication of our faculty and staff, as well as the sacrifice of generations of parents and donors. Tonight, we celebrate all those who, as the Brothers of Holy Cross would say, had “the competency to see and the courage to act” in order to preserve Catholic secondary education in Monroe for succeeding generations. I am confident that years from now, SMCC supporters will gather and celebrate what you did for the school this evening. The Auction is our largest special event fundraiser of the year, and the premier social event for the Monroe community. Since its inception, we have raised over $4 million for the students of SMCC. The money netted from tonight’s event provides critical support which allows us to keep tuition affordable and the opportunity of a Catholic secondary education open to generations of families. It is only with your on-going generosity that we can continue to make an SMCC education available to all who seek it. With room after room of unique gifts, a delicious catered meal, and a live auction with outstanding items, we hope that this evening is a memorable one for you. While you are here tonight, you will interact with many of our students, parents, and alumni and have the chance to see what we call the “SMCC family.” In doing so, you will also come to better understand how the SMCC experience is one set apart from other institutions. We seek to be a “Christ-centered learning community forming lives in a tradition of faithfulness to Gospel, educational excellence, and service to others.” Whether you are a current or past parent, a graduate from St. Mary Academy, Monroe Catholic Central, or St. Mary Catholic Central, or a friend of the school, we hope that you will have fun, shop until you drop, make new friends and renew old acquaintances, and realize that your help this evening benefits our students. We are extremely grateful for your generous support. May God’s blessings be with you and your family each and every day. Yours in Catholic Education, Sean Jorgensen Jason Linster President Principal

SILENT AUCTION RULES All items in the silent auction have bid sheets attached or affixed nearby. Persons desiring to bid may do so by placing their name or paddle number and the bid amount on the sheet. Your paddle number is registered in your name; use this number when you bid. Do not allow anyone else to use your paddle. Each increase in bid must equal or exceed the minimum increase stated on the bid sheet in order to constitute a valid bid. Each new bid should be written on the next blank line available on the bid sheet. ONLY AN AUTHORIZED AUCTION PERSON MAY NULLIFY A BID. In the event of a dispute, the designated Auction official shall conduct a mini oral auction between the bidders. The highest bidder wins. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within one year of April 29, 2017. Items purchased and not claimed by April 29, 2018, will become the property of The Auction for SMCC. Throw-In Bid: This secret bid allows a bidder to write the maximum amount he/she would pay for an item, thus eliminating the need to constantly check on the subsequent bids. The submitted bid may or may not be higher than the bid sheet number. 1. Bidder determines how much he/she is willing to bid for an item and asks Room Host for a “Throw-In” bid slip. 2. Bidder fills out form, places it in the envelope, seals it, writes the item number on the outside of the envelope, and returns it to a Room Host/Hostess. 3. Room Host/Hostess places a sticker on the appropriate bid sheet signifying that at least one throw-in bid has been entered. 4. All “Throw-in” bids (from both Friday and Saturday nights) are opened by the check-out team Saturday night. 5. In the event of tie bids, the tie bidders’ forms will be folded into quarters, put into a box, shaken, and one selected by an Enlist worker at checkout. The silent auction rooms will be open for bidding at 5:30 PM on Saturday, April 29, 2017 and close at various intervals throughout the evening. The closing bid verified by The Auction official constitutes the winning bid. Payment by the successful bidder is to be made the evening of The Auction. One may pay with cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express. Payment in full that evening is mandatory. Items may be removed only by exhibiting a PAID receipt when claiming the purchase. Friday winners are called Sunday morning between 10:00 and 12:00. Payment is made at time of pick-up. 31
