| PRESIDENT’S LETTER Dear Member, OVE IS IN THE AIR! February is the most romantic month of the year and we have numerous ways for you to spend time with your special someone. Whether you attend our Valentine’s Day dinner dance on February 14, shop our Sweethearts Sale on February 12-14, watch “Love” service at our world class tennis pro exhibition on February 14 or take a “Sweetheart Stroll” around Boca West the morning of February 15. Celebrate Valentine’s Day any way you wish! Once again during President’s Week, kids of all ages will find entertainment everywhere. Whether its golf, tennis, fitness or simply sitting poolside watching a movie, we’ve got something for everyone. A brochure listing all of the great activities and events is available throughout the Club as well as posted on the Club’s website. Please be sure to pick one up so you and your family and guests won’t miss a moment of fun that week. Exciting news on page 23 regarding a last minute Kenny G concert taking place at your Club! Thanks to a collaboration between us, the Boca West Children’s Foundation and The Honda Classic Cares organization you and your guests will enjoy a beautiful evening in an intimate setting with the sounds of a world-renowned musician. We expect this to sell out fast so please don’t wait to get your reservations. Did You Know that The Living Room and Onyx Lounge are open daily at 11am for drinks? Entertainment in the evening is from 6-10pm; Wednesday-Saturday in The Living Room and Tuesday-Saturday in Onyx Lounge. Whether you’re having guests for lunch or dinner, both locations are great for gathering prior to or after your meal. So after your round of golf or tennis match, stop by for a beverage and relax and enjoy. I’m happy to introduce the newest member of the Boca West family, Travis Wadsworth, as Director of Restaurants. Travis has an extensive background in food and beverage, most notably at the five diamond Ponte Vedra Beach Resort & Club. Please be sure to say hello when you see him in the restaurants. We are happy to welcome him to the team! We are very excited about the capital project being presented to you for a vote in March. If you have not taken the time to watch the architect’s conceptual video of the Sports Center, please do so. We’ve made it very accessible by sharing it throughout the club on TVs, digital signage, the community channel and website. You will also see easels throughout the club displaying renderings of the project. We have several presentation meetings scheduled in February and March: Friday, February 21 at 10am, 2pm and 4:30pm; Saturday, February 22 at 10am, Thursday, March 5 at 2pm; and Friday, March 6 at 10am and 2pm. Please plan to attend one of these presentations to get all of your questions answered. Every year in the month of February some of our Board members’ terms expire. This year’s election marks the end of a three-year term for Jerry Glassman and Phil Kupperman and the end of two consecutively served three-year terms for Bud Baron, Nancy Frydman and Howard Liebman. All five of these members have my sincere appreciation for selflessly contributing their knowledge and time toward the betterment of your Club. As the end of our Chairman’s service nears, I would be remiss without saying how grateful I am to Howard Liebman for his past three years as the Chief Executive Officer of this company. His dedication and passion for Boca West (the country club and the community) are truly remarkable. Working side by side with him for just over two years I have gained tremendous admiration and respect for his vision and leadership. It has been a true pleasure that I will always cherish. By now, you have all received your 2020 Annual Meeting of the Members package as well as your Board of Governors election package. If you have not received either, please reach out to the Executive Office so we may get duplicate out to you right away. Your educated vote is so important to the future of your Club, so please watch “Meet the Candidates” on the Club’s website, posted on the Board of Governors page, in each clubhouse lobby as well as on the community Channel (Channel 9000 on Hotwire) to gain insight on your fellow members running for your Board of Governors. I look forward to seeing you on Friday, February 28 at 3pm in the Cypress Room of the Country Club for the Annual Meeting of the Members. Don’t forget that with this “changing of the guard” new committees will also be formed. Your Board is always looking for energetic members with fresh new ideas who are willing to serve the Club. If you would like to get more involved with your Club you may wish to participate on a committee for the 2020/2021 season. Please drop a note to the Executive Office addressed to the Chairman of the Board indicating the committee on which you would like to serve. Please remember I welcome and encourage your thoughts, comments and suggestions regarding your Club. Sending Valentine’s Day love your way from me and the Linderman girls, Yamile, Alexa and Sophia! Sincerely, Matthew Linderman, CCM President, COO & General Manager B O C A W E S T 3

| GOLF 3 ON THE COURSES By Steve Forman Terrific Golf Committee Chairman YEARS at Boca West I am ending my third term AS CHAIR OF THE GOLF COMMITTEE AND IT HAS BEEN A TERRIFIC THREE YEARS. First, I want to thank our Director of Golf, Brad “JR” Friend, and Golf Superintendent, Wes Dinsmoor, and their entire staffs for the wonderful work they do for all of us. I am convinced there are not better people anywhere. Second, I want to thank the members of my Committee for their dedication, diligence and creativity. All have contributed a great deal so thanks to Vice Chair, Bob Lerner, Chuck Rosenblatt, Lela Cannon, Pete Kolben, Jeff Rothschild, Rich Wagner, Len Hodes, Bob Forman, Sharon Bailenson, Frank Zaid, Mel Ganz, Alan Rosenberg, Eric Reinstein, and Terri Axelrod. As this is my last article for this Committee year, I thought it would be interesting and insightful to do an interview with Matthew Linderman our President, COO and General Manager on his thoughts about golf at Boca West. Needless to say, there are a lot of exciting things happening now and planned for the future. SF: You have been at Boca West for almost 15 years. How has the golf program evolved over that time? ML: Actually, it will be 15 years in August and it certainly doesn’t seem that long. Golf has always been an important part of Life here at the Country Club —after all, how many clubs have four courses, each with its own distinction, character and challenges! Golf is a sport and as such, inherently competitive—usually you always want to beat your opponent and you always want to improve so you can keep beating your opponent. Otherwise it can become frustrating. At the same time, I am aware of golf’s social aspects maybe more than the more serious golfer. For one, it is a great vehicle to meet people and develop new friendships. My sense is that over the past decade, the social aspect is becoming more important to our members and future members than the competitiveness of the sport. Witness the growth in popularity of our social golf events. We are having four and five hundred people or more signing up for Twi-nites, the Season Opener and other exciting events. I am also aware that advances in technology are making it easier to improve our games. Our philosophy at Boca West is we want to do everything really well—from food service to fitness to tennis to the spa to golf. As such I want Boca West to be at the forefront of the golf industry, providing the equipment, hard goods, teaching aids, and even “apps” applications that will help us enjoy this game even more. Continues on page 16 >>> B O C A W E S T 15
>>> from page 15 | GOLF SF: In your opinion, what is the state of the program now? ML: We are in a really good place and improving. JR and his team of golf professionals are extremely motivated to take care of the existing members and get you out enjoying your golf games much more. They ML: Golf is integral to our lifestyle at Boca West and we want the golf are also attempting to get new social part time golfers more driven to experience to be memorable, end to end. When a guest or even a play, i.e. our “Get Golf Ready Program” for people who have never played member walks out to the driving range I want them to take notice golf.
