Why Reseed?
Why is reseeding
so important?
Good grass leys contribute hugely
to lowering production costs, but
as a sward ages, its yield and feed
quality decreases significantly. This is
caused largely by the ingress of lower
yielding, lower quality weed grasses.
Reseeding gives the opportunity to
replace older varieties and weed
grasses with the newest genetics
that offer a multitude of benefits.

Seed Quality
The UK has two quality standards of Some mixtures adhere to the Higher
grass seed, with many mixtures only Voluntary Standard (HVS) which has
meeting EU minimum standards. more stringent purity requirements.

It is our aim to supply Monarch leys at quality

                             How to establish
                             a new ley
                             Follow these steps to successfully
                             establish your Monarch ley

                             1. Resolve drainage and
                                compaction problems

                             2. Soil test to assess pH and nutrient
                                levels. The optimum requirements are:
                                • pH 6.0 (6.5 for clover)
                                • P indices of 2
                                • K indices of 2-
                                Consult AHDB’s nutrient management

                             3. Choose your sowing date. Soil
moisture and temperature are the key
factors. Typical drilling dates would be:

                                March-April for grass swards

July-August for grass and clover swards

                             4. Prepare a firm, fine seedbed
