Members of Council & Greetings from the Mayor Message Members of Council from the Mayor: James Leduc On behalf of the Council of the Town Deputy Mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury, I am jleduc@townofbwg.com pleased to introduce this online Spring 2021 Leisure Guide. Raj Sandhu It goes without saying that 2020 was Ward 1 Councillor a difficult and unusual year, and that 2021 will be a year of slow rebuilding rsandhu@townofbwg.com before an eventual return to some version of normal. In terms of recreation, it has shifted all of our resources and priorities, and presented challenges that I believe our Town Jonathan Scott parks and leisure staff have handled admirably. Ward 2 Councillor jscott@townofbwg.com While big public events and busy fitness classes have been set aside, a new model for fitness – including online programs, outdoor classes and physically distanced activities from lane swimming to pickleball – has been Gary Lamb implemented and enjoyed by many residents. Ward 3 Councillor glamb@townofbwg.com Restrictions on gatherings, especially indoors, have given us a new appreciation for outdoor activity and more solitary pursuits from walking to cross-country skiing. We are fortunate in BWG to have many places to enjoy these Ron Orr activities, with 26 municipal parks and parkettes – including Ward 4 Councillor the 97-acre multi-use Henderson Memorial Park – as well rorr@townofbwg.com as the Scanlon Creek Conservation Area and Simcoe County Forests. If you haven’t visited these areas yet, I encourage you to do so this year, and take advantage of all our community has to offer. It’s great for both mental and Peter Ferragine physical health, and may give you a new appreciation of Ward 5 Councillor your own neighbourhood. pferragine@townofbwg.com Information on Town programs and events is always at your fingertips at www.townofbwg.com and Mark Contois www.bwgleisurecentre.ca as well as on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Ward 6 Councillor mcontois@townofbwg.com Please stay safe and well. Welcome Welcome to the Spring 2021 BWG Leisure Guide The Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone’s lives in so many different ways, including personal and family leisure pursuits in and around our community. This guide has been prepared with the optimism that certain leisure services will be offered to the residents of the community at some point. At the time of writing this guide, all activities listed here are tentative based on current restrictions by the provincial government, local health authorities and the guidance of our municipal leaders. Please take note that all programs may be impacted by last minute decisions and/or cancellations. The safety of the users of these programs, the staff who design and deliver them and the public at large will always remain the first priority. Most of the drop in activities which you can usually access information on timing, costs and availability can be found at the Leisure Centre website, www.bwgleisurecentre.ca. Please also note that many of the usual activities such as leisure swimming, open gym and other drop in activities may be on a temporary hiatus until further loosening of restrictions. Regretfully, decisions such as this needed to occur to maximize the physical distancing requirements, and group gathering number protocols that are still in place at the time of writing this message. As restrictions loosen, staff will begin to offer additional activities, which will be publicized using the Town’s social media and website platforms. Staff ask for your patience and understanding as we all navigate through this difficult time. Please be assured, that staff are doing all they can with your and our safety in mind. Fitness A MESSAGE FROM THE BRADFORD WEST GWILLIMBURY FITNESS TEAM As the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved, our department has continued to prioritize the health and well- being of our employees, members and the community that we serve. As various other fitness centres/ gyms re-open their doors health and safety will remain a very important consideration for the BWG Fitness Centre. During these days of COVID-19, we understand that you may have several questions about how you can return to the gym in a safe manner. We want our employees and members to feel confident when they come back to work or workout. In light of the pandemic, we have been highly focused on the changes we are making to operate more safely in the future. For our employees, we are following newly established health protocols, providing personal protective equipment, and implementing physical distancing working practices. In the Fitness Centre, we have mapped a new layout of equipment to ensure physical distancing, ramping up our cleaning procedures, limiting number of people in all areas and creating more opportunities to participate virtually in both group fitness classes and online fitness coaching. We cannot do this alone. More now that ever we need your support to ensure that equipment is being wiped down after every use, physical distancing is being followed and that everyone is taking responsibility for their health by staying home if you do not feel well or are showing any symptoms. As we chart these uncertain times, it is essential that we follow the direction of the Federal and Provincial governments, and the Ministry of Health, to ensure we take the necessary steps to keep our communities safe and healthy. We will communicate any information we learn and as always, we remain committed to providing you with updates and information as we have it available to us. Please continue to watch your email inbox or visit the Town website www.townofbwg.com/covid. We understand that for many of you the gym has not only been a place to work out but a social gathering. We need to ensure the safety of everyone and take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread. We’re all in this together. Stay safe and help your community stay healthy. 32 | 905 905-775-7529 BWG Spring 2021 Leisure Guide www.bwgleisurecentre.ca
