FROM THE DIRECTOR I LOVE TEACHING. I still get butterflies in my stomach at the start of every CPD event we host – not because I’m worried that something will go wrong, but because putting TEAM on a CPD event that engages and inspires other health-care providers is so exciting. We know that providers take their newfound skills to help their patients in every WORK corner of Manitoba. CONTINUING COMPETENCY AND ASSESSMENT TEAM Reaching every corner of Manitoba is an important part of CPD Medicine’s strategic L-R FRONT ROW plan moving forward. This year, we are pleased to announce a collaborative initiative KARYN IVERSEN with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and Manitoba Health, TOLU DARE Seniors and Active Living. This initiative will take a two-day workshop on opioid LENORE CHIPMAN DEBBIE LEMKEY replacement therapy to multiple rural and remote locations across our province DIANA SANCHEZ-RAMIREZ in the coming years. As the opioid crisis continues to affect practitioners, patients ANA MULLEN and their families, this initiative aims to build a network of skilled providers of MARINA REINECKE MELANIE FROESE opioid addiction treatment in Manitoba. L-R BACK ROW It is my hope that this new initiative along with the ongoing rural programs we offer CHRISTINE POLIMENI in various communities every year will meet the CPD needs of more rural practitioners NATALIE MACLEOD SCHROEDER working in underserved communities. BRENDA STUTSKY BONNIE REHBERG Thank you for your continued commitment to professional development and lifelong CAROLE MARSHALL learning. Our slogan, Learning for Life, encompasses both the lifelong learning that all JEFF TOEWS MEGHAN WARD health-care practitioners commit to, as well as the ultimate goal that we strive for – improved health and quality of life for our patients. Your committed involvement in our programs allows us to continue to grow and innovate. Marina Reinecke MD, CCFP Director, CPD Medicine Program

So much to learn and so much to continue advocating for. Loved the experience. Brandon Primary Care Spring Conference 2018 LEFT TO RIGHT – HANNAH SMITH, ANA MULLEN, CAROLE MARSHALL, DIANA SANCHEZ-RAMIREZ, JEFF TOEWS, TOLU DARE, CHRISTINE POLIMENI. SHINGLES AND FASCIA – NOT ONLY MEDICAL TERMS! Seven volunteers from the Office of Continuing Competency and Assessment (CCA), of which the CPD Medicine program is a constituent, participated in this year’s Rady Faculty of Health Sciences Habitat for Humanity build. The volunteers helped construct a ready-to-move home on the Bannatyne campus, which was then relocated to its permanent foundation on Flora Avenue in Winnipeg. The day was spent working alongside the new homeowners in the later stages of the build, adding insulation, roofing and finishing the eaves – a strenuous but ultimately very rewarding day!
