From the organizers A year ago two guys from Austria wanted to participate in the idea competition of the 30th CEC, competing with "LCPCon" - a conference meant for LC Presidents - they reached the second place of this competition and started gathering a team around them in order to realize it. Soon they realized that excluding motivated members which aren't LCPs was probably the wrong approach, this was the second LEAP was born. However, as things go on and on the team changed - a lot - only one member of the original team is part of the current, really motivated, one. So eventually months rolled by trying to achieve something newer, better, more different and productive than the world of student-run IAESTE has ever seen on an international level. One can tell that we've at least achieved the different part by simply looking at the application form and the WS leaders. By inviting external speakers we're getting the opportunity to get an outsiders view on our work, which can sometimes be a great chance to see mistakes we've made and didn't notice or just something we didn't see at all but yet would make a huge impact if we change that little thing. By registering to this first-time event you've made the first step towards an amazing experience. We hope that you're going to enjoy this conference as much as we did while organizing all of this. Besides that try to take as much information as possible from the trainings, spread it in your LC and apply it to your IAESTE as well as to your everyday life. A last word of advice though, never be afraid of trying to change things, as with the first CEC, JUMP, maybe even the first LC/NC in your country, one thing they all have in common is that one or two persons in the very beginning asking themselves "Why not?" instead of "Why should I do it? Somebody's going to take the chance sometime soon anyway" - Make sure to be that somebody even if everyone else says you're crazy ;) Wishing you all the best, Senta Vitkova, Oliver Ploder on behalf of the LEAP Team About IAESTE The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) is an independent, non-profit and non-political student exchange organization. About LEAP LEAP is an abbreviation for LCs of Europe Are Partners, meant for experienced members who are looking for the perfect opportunity to change things within IAESTE. It is also a place to learn new skills and to improve ourselves. Additionally it is a place to meet individuals that think the same way you do, which would love to cooperate across boarders in matters of creating or improving existing projects. As mentioned above and below we've invited speakers from big companies who have prepared excellent workshops meant to help you with your projects. Is it really necessary? Yes it is, because we don't have any other option where we can work together with enough time. Last similar event was JUMP on start of our IAESTE career. CEC is only for a weekend, so really short. And SID is only for few people. LEAP should be different. We want you to learn something too. That is why there are many trainings during LEAP, we want you to educate yourself and then we wish you will educate your friends at your LCs. Simple, right? So enjoy the time in Czech mountains, get a lot of information and use it for you, for IAESTE!

About Czech Republic The Czech Republic is a landlocked country in the middle of Europe. Rather than as a country in the middle of Europe, we should speak of the Czech Republic as a country in the heart of Europe… after all, the heart is not to be found precisely in the center of the human body either ;) Interesting facts 90% of Czechs have completed at least secondary education - the highest score in the EU (along with Poles, Slovaks, and Slovenes). According to the 2001 census, 59% of the Czechs are Agnostic, Atheist, or non-believer, 26.8% Roman Catholic and 2.5% Protestant. Only 19% said that they believed in God, meaning that about 11% of the self-declared Christians were only Christian in name (or by tradition). The Czech Republic has the most hospital beds per inhabitant in the EU. Czech people have the second highest death rate for cancer in the EU (after Hungary). Czech people are the world's heaviest consumers of beer. The country is renowned for its numerous spa towns, especially along the border with Saxony (Germany). The most famous ones are those of Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad), Františkovy Lázně (Franzensbad) and Teplice (Teplitz). There are over 2,000 castles, keeps, and castle ruins in the Czech Republic, one of the highest density in the world (notably after Belgium and France). One of the most famous Czech sportswoman is tennis champion Martina Navratilova (born in 1956), statistically the second best female player of the 20th century behind Steffi Graf. Within the EU, part-timers work the longest hours in the Czech Republic (about 24h/week). However, part-time work is very rare in this country. Historically, the Czech Republic was composed of the Kingdom of Bohemia and the March of Moravia, both part of the the Holy Roman Empire (800-1806), then also within the Habsburg Empire (1526-1918). The Charles University in Prague, founded in 1348, is the oldest university in Eastern Europe. Famous Czech people include the religious reformer Jan Hus (1370-1415), the early proponent of universal education John Amos Comenius (1592-1670), the classical music composers Bedrich Smetana (1824-1884) and Antonín Dvorák (1841-1904), and the German-language author Franz Kafka (1883-1924). A Czech, the chemist Otto Wichterle, invented the soft contact lenses in 1959. Interesting video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3ezBXebEtc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSqO16fA9yY
