Be the Change From the In late 2019, Largo Public Library joined with the public libraries of Clearwater, Dunedin, and Safety Harbor to offer a free mail- Library in reference service for Florida inmates. Since then, the newly renamed Reference By Mail program has received nearly four hundred letters ranging in subjects from re-entry programs for newly released inmates, information about how they can receive Director books by mail, biographies of famous and historical figures, and inquires about science and religions. Recently, members from the program have been in contact with several women’s correctional institutions after staff noticed a lack of letters from female inmates. With this new service initiative to female institutions, our reach is extended to all who need reference assistance. 5 7 Due to the ongoing pandemic, this service has been more important than ever. Inmates had limited access to information before the virus, but now prisons that do have resources such as on-site libraries or other informational services have had to halt these T programs in an attempt to help stop the spread. This has made their access to information even more restricted.
