Bronwyn Williams-Ellis: Mythical Beasts included in ticket for main exhibition Unicorn, grogged white 27 November 2021 – 27 February 2022 clay with coloured slips by Bronwyn Williams-Ellis This dazzling show of fictional beasts modelled in clay includes work for sale, and is the perfect accompaniment to the adjoining Myths and Monsters exhibition. Bronwyn uses combinations of low fired clays, coloured slips and highlights of glaze. Her work previously concentrated on the human form and its relationships to landscape and water. For this show she combines work in three and two dimensions, from sculptural pieces to small glazed tiles, all of them depicting mythical beasts such as sphinxes, griffons and mermaids. Bronwyn trained as a ceramicist at Cardiff College of Art. Always interested in early art, archaeology and civilisations, it was during a visit to the Alhambra Palace in Spain that she became excited by the visual impact of wall ceramics on a space used by people. An MA in Cardiff and later a fellowship at Bath Academy of Art encouraged further development. Upper Galleries For the time being the Upper Gallery is only available to visitors who have booked tickets for the Temporary Exhibition in the Lower Gallery. We will do our best to ensure the Upper Gallery remains open, but please be aware that we cannot guarantee it will be available when you visit. We apologise for any convenience. Alongside Watersplash by Henry Herbert La our oil paintings we also have a diverse selection of ceramics Thangue, about 1899 for you to explore, as well as glittering Georgian glass and changing displays of watercolours and drawings.
