Shirley Grand Opening Aproximately 40 people celebrated the opening of the Shirley Community Garden in December. The Shirley Community Trust, the Just Dirt Trust, the Council’s Parks Unit, MacFarlane Park Kidsfirst Kindergarten, local businesses and volunteers all contributed to this community project. A pear tree was planted by Cr Pauline Cotter and children from Kidsfirst Kindergarten and the ribbon was cut by the Community Gardener of the Week, Eli Huffam. This was a lovely ceremony attended well by community and blessed with good weather. People lingered after the ceremony to chat over morning tea, were keen to be involved and were very supportive of seeing this community garden grow into the future. If you are interested in having your own garden bed in our Community Garden, please contact Ian: 022 277 6288 South MacFarlane Park, off Jebson Street, Shirley Phone Ian: 022 277 6288
