Four Stories FirstNews Issue 638 7th - 13th September 2018 BIG NEWS CALIFORNIA is known for its glorious weather, and the SUNNY FUTURE people there will soon be taking full advantage of the relentless sunshine. The state is expected to pass a new law saying that California should get 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2045. Renewable energy is energy coming from sources that never run out, such as the sun (solar power), wind power and wave power. These types of energy do not create pollution. Although California is just one of America’s 50 states, it is more wealthy than many large countries, so the world will sit up and take notice if this plan goes ahead. Many people who care for the environment hope that California will be an inspiration and show other countries just what is possible.

Four Stories FirstNews Issue 638 7th - 13th September 2018 BIG NEWS ENGLAND have qualified for the 2019 Women’s World Cup THE LIONESSES after beating Wales 3-0 in Newport. The win means the Lionesses have already come top of their QUALIFY qualifying group, even though they have a game left to play. The Welsh team will be very disappointed with their performance, as Wales have not lost any of their other qualifying matches. In fact, Wales hadn’t let in a goal for 687 minutes until England scored! The Welsh defence held out until the 57th minute, when Toni Duggan struck brilliantly to open the scoring. Then the floodgates opened: Jill Scott and Nikita Paris scored in the next 12 minutes. England dominated the match, with most of the possession and nine shots on target. Manager Phil Neville described it as a “great night for women’s football”, but he thinks the team can improve. “I am happy we are going to France. I am not totally happy with the way we played; we can play better.” There is still a slim chance that Wales can also qualify. The World Cup starts on 7th June 2019. DID YOU KNOW?
