A
s I write this introduction, we are two days away from the general election.
We are all aware the result is particularly significant this time for our
community. By the time this brochure arrives on your doorstep, the
election will be history and we will adjust to the new reality.
In Judaism we often live in different time dimensions simultaneously. Throughout
our year there are strong focuses on the past and our tumultuous history. But the
emphasis on yesteryear is always about, enriching the immediate and creating
tomorrow - past becomes present and present becomes future.
At Seed we are constantly aware of this dynamic. After all it is a vital perspective
when parenting, yesterday’s toddler becomes today’s adolescent and tomorrow’s
adult. The time flies by so quickly. So come and maximise the present and engage
with our programmes. There is quite literally an option and opportunity
for everyone.

About Seed Seed specialises in Jewish Family Education. Our mission is to equip parents to raise their children with a sophisticated understanding of their Judaism, and a wholesome belief in themselves. We aim to strengthen the family unit through formal and informal study, positive Jewish encounters and a shared enjoyment of Jewish life and values. We have offices in London and Manchester and work with both families and individuals in schools, in our centres and beyond. Our programmes include: Early Years programmes for mums and dads, including the ‘Babies & Bagels’ mother and baby groups as well as mother and toddler groups introducing parenting skills and fundamental Jewish concepts in a warm, sociable environment. ‘Dad’s Time’ programme in Manchester complements the ‘Babies & Bagels’ programme for mums. In-School Family Education programmes, providing formal and informal programmes in Jewish primary schools to help mums and dads in supporting the Jewish education of their children, such as the Hebrew Reading Crash Course, Everyday Parenting course and family arts and crafts activities around Jewish themes. 3 PROSPECTUS JANUARY - MAY 2020 www.seed.uk.net
Teen programmes including a parenting course with a focus on teenagers and the popular LINKS bat mitzvah programme for mothers and daughters. Residential weekend seminars for families, featuring educational and inspiring lectures and workshops for adults and a full range of children’s activities and programmes. Trips abroad to Israel and Poland, incorporating education-based touring and study opportunities not available in the UK. These trips are focused around specific groups of participants - families, mothers and daughters on our Bat Mitzvah Programme, and separate trips for women and men. One-to-One learning centres for adults, where Seed matches up suitable volunteers to participants in order to share educational resources on a one-to-one basis. The Seed Shul in Edgware, which currently has 70 member families with many more regulars intending to join. The shul also runs a highly successful ‘seedlings’ service for its youngest members as well as allowing parents to collect CRP points at the various services. www.seed.uk.net PROSPECTUS JANUARY - MAY 2020 4

Meet some of the team...
Elisheva Fisher
Elisheva was born and raised in Hendon but spent
nearly nine years in Israel. She came back to England
with her family over a year ago having decided that it was
time to start using her talents and investing her skills within
the Anglo community. She loves teaching and learning
and is in her element interacting and socialising with
people. Being a trained and practising Psychotherapist,
and being involved in the Seed educational team makes a
busy but satisfying life for Elisheva.
Rabbi Peretz Goldstein
Originally from Stanmore, Rabbi Peretz Goldstein spent
eleven years swotting away in Israel until receiving his
Rabbinic ordination, whereupon he and his family jet-set off
to Boston, where they were (very) busy building a community
of Jewish young-professionals in an urban setting through a
blend of social and educational programmes. Rabbi
Goldstein now returns to the UK to spearhead the new
Borehamwood project, where he and his wife, Sorele, look
forward to pushing back the frontiers of enriched Jewish
family life in the town which now houses the largest
community in the UK.

Everyday Parenting for teens A three-part series introducing principles for parenting our teenagers. Sponsored by the Rosemarie Nathanson Charitable Trust Part 1. It’s a brave new world. It is vital to recognise the incredible changes when a child transitions to an adolescent. This establishes the essential backdrop to any successful parenting at this stage. In this session we look at those changes and introduce the predominant principle of the whole course. Part 2. If only she would listen! Parenting teenagers requires a brand new tool kit. Even if we have been successful to date, we need to adapt to the new reality. This requires enormous patience, perseverance and above all the recognition that at this point in time within the relationship, there is only one party that can change. (Guess who that is?!) In this session we look at the ability to “facilitate” the relationship focusing on the skills of productive communication. Part 3. But who is in charge? We all recognise that teenagers need a more flexible approach to say the least. Does that mean that we hand over the keys? Can we still set boundaries? If so how can we do so without triggering rebellion?
