DPW Louisiana Ave Road Repairs WHAT: Repave Louisiana Avenue from ACP1 to Highway 467 (LA467) WHO: DPW Engineering WHEN: 20 Sep – 15 Nov 19 WHERE: Fort Polk WHY: Louisiana Avenue is the main entrance to JRTC and Fort Polk. The pavement has base failures and asphalt degradation. SUMMARY: This project will require the contractor to execute base failure repairs, asphalt milling and a new asphalt overlay. To minimize the impacts to motorists, execution will be accomplished in 4 phases. Motorists should consider alternate routes when available and expect traffic congestion and delays. Phase 1: Base failure repairs will require one lane closures implemented by providing flagging operations and temporary traffic control devices for approximately four weeks. (Aggregate travel surfaces will remain) Phase 2: Base failure repairs on the outbound lane of ACP1 requiring a closure for outbound traffic for no longer than one week. Phase 3: Asphalt milling and a new asphalt overlay will require closure of intersecting roads. Bell Richard, Holmlund, Magnolia and AAFES drive will be closed at Louisiana Ave for approximately two weeks. WHO: DPW Engineering WHEN: Oct 2019 – 27 March 2020 Project Start WHERE: Fort Polk Project WHY: The pavement has End significant base failure and asphalt degradation. SUMMARY: This project will require the contractor to execute shoulder work , crosswalks, removing (milling) the asphalt, repaving with a new asphalt overlay and new pavement markings. The construction effort will require closures, detours and flagging operations to complete the repairs while ensuring safety for motorist and construction crews. DPW Net Zero Waste NZW Initiatives for 2020 Unfortunately, only Outreach has been funded for the 2020 Fiscal Year for Net Zero Waste. We will still be able to support focused training to Troops, Civilians and Families; some marketing and social media updates; and limited Office Supply ReStore assistance. What does this mean to the Fort Polk Community? No Curbside Pickup: Affects facilities like DFMWR’s CYS, ACS, FRC, Educational Center/Library, and Wheelock Fitness Center; several BJACH facilities; AAFES Main Express; SJA; LRC Hazmart; North Polk Elementary; and HQ Bldg 350. No Facility Assessments or Personnel: Affects over 300 facilities that were visited, assessed, and provided facility Outreach in 2019 to ensure the facilities maintain compliance. We recommend that the Fort Polk community continue to maintain the facilities. Any commodities collected can be turned in at the QRP recycling center. Be sure to double check your recyclables before bringing to the QRP since we won’t have the staff available to do this for you. DPW Forestry Prescribed Burn in Family Housing Update Supporting Agencies: DPW Forestry – Provide planning, coordination, and execution DES Fire – Provide onsite equipment to protect houses / structures and residents DES Police – Provide onsite and periodic uniformed patrols to ensure safety for motorist, residents, and children while the prescribed burn is in progress DPW Housing and Corvias – Publicize and inform housing residents of the upcoming prescribed burn through all available resources ensuring the widest dissemination possible. Special attention will be targeted for the Exceptional Family Member Program PAO – Publicize the prescribed burn in housing to the Fort Polk Community and general public through Guardian articles, radio interviews, and social media GSO – Provide a representative to observe and advise should any unexpected hazard occur during the execution of the prescribed burn WOC/EOC – Send out an “All Users” email notification to inform Fort Polk command and garrison workforce of the location and time the prescribed burn will occur in family housing. Fire Prevention Week events will be held October 2019 throughout the week of October 9th in order to inform the Fort Polk community on annual Fire Safety topics to have a safer, better prepared and informed community. Concept of Op: The Fort Polk FES will coordinate and conduct a focused Fire Prevention Week in October using the full spectrum of venues and resources available for education and awareness training.
