Several green initiatives have been included in this project. The administrative building has been designed as a green building. Energy generation has been facilitated by roof mounted solar power plant. Effort has been made to utilize natural day light fully through UV protected polycarbonate sheeting. LED lights have been used in sheds, buildings and as street lights. Natural ventilation has been maintained through louvers and turbo vents. Tree plantation is in progress. Facilities for rain water harvesting, waste water recycling and sewage treatment have been provided. The total cost of this project is approx. Rs 625 cr. The Coach Factory will have the production capacity of 250 MEMU coaches per annum. 351 acres of land will be utilized for the factory and 24 acres of land will be utilized for residential area with 58 residential quarters. 41 acres of land will be utilized for the nearby Harangul station yard and rail connectivity. The service buildings have occupied 10400 sq m. These include administrative blocks, canteen, electric substation, toilet and security blocks etc. A total of 19.97 Km railway track and 5.2 Km roads are also a part of this project. A new station building will be built at Harangul Station with signaling works and electronic interlocking. Power supply, water works supply which includes ground level reservoir and over head tank are also a part of this project. This factory will bring employment to a large number of people & create an industrial ecosystem in the region which has so far been undeveloped. Connecting Rail Network to Chardham The detailed cost estimates along with FLS report for Gangotri-Yamunotri alignment from Doiwala- Barkot via Uttarkashi with a total length of 121km has been submitted to the Railway Board for Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath & Kedarnath execution sanction. For Badrinath and Kedarnath, the under-construction Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line will be extended by RVNL. The Chardam Rail Connectivity Project is located in the higher reaches of Himalayan mountains in the state of Uttarakhand ( India). Taking forward Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for rail connectivity to the Chardhams (viz. Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri & Yamunotri), and Chardham Yatra in the state of Uttarakhand, the Ministry of Railways entrusted RVNL to carry out Reconnaissance Engineering Survey (RES) for Single BG line Rail connectivity and Final Location Survey (FLS) for Yamunotri-Gangotri and Kedarnath-Badrinath routes. The RES considered 30 individual finger/loop type alignment alternative routes to each Chardham destination and inter-connectivity via loop connectivity as well as their combinations. 60 Journey of 18 Years Rail Vikas Nigam Limited 61
Rishikesh - The Project proposes to bring rail connectivity to the higher reaches of Uttarakhand. The electrified BG rail line will connect important Karnaprayag towns like Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar and Karnaprayag (5 districts).
