About GMYN: What We Do For many young people, the transition to adulthood isn’t easy. In the UK, one third of young people are lonely, half feel unready for work and half feel like they don’t belong to their community. What’s more, in Greater Manchester, 1 in 3 children live in poverty. With the additional challenges of Covid-19, young people have never been more in need of support: one million under 25s in the UK are expected to face unemployment and 80% of young people with a history of mental ill health have said their condition is getting worse. Our vision is #YoungPeopleCan and we help young people in Greater Manchester overcome this. We deliver a range of development programmes and drop-in activities to help young people aged 13-25 transition to adulthood feeling skilled, supported and positive. Our focus is supporting young people who face significant challenges, including those with experience of the care system; special educational needs and disabilities; and social, emotional and mental health challenges. Founded in 2007 by our Chief Executive, Alex Fairweather, we have grown from a single volunteering project to a registered charity and have helped over 11,000 young people.
About GMYN: Our Values We embed our values across everything we do at GMYN, from our internal staff culture, to our partnerships and, most importantly, our youth work. Co-designed with the team, our values are: • Compassion: We care. This sounds like an obvious value for a charity but it is something we are very passionate about at GMYN. We listen to young people and our team and take concerns, ideas and experiences seriously. We want everyone who engages with GMYN to have the best experience possible so we are always evolving and developing to ensure that anyone can feel comfortable, happy and fulfilled. • Inclusivity: We want to involve everyone. We are a learning organisation and are committed to becoming fully inclusive. We know that real, meaningful inclusion is never a tick-box exercise, so we are devoted to educating and re-educating ourselves and constantly evaluating our practices to make sure that anyone can contribute and feel valued at GMYN. • Collaboration: We work together. We believe that the best can only be achieved by working together, whether that’s as a team, with other organisations, with young people or with other experts. Our vision that #YoungPeopleCan is only achievable by sharing knowledge, learning and the workload. • Authenticity: We are real. We believe in integrity and honesty throughout all aspects of our work and we are realistic in our ambitions. This means that we get to the root of the issues that young people face, take them seriously and provide the support that we know is needed. We also believe in transparency and foster a culture of honesty throughout or practices, within the team, with our partners and with the young people we support. • Transformation: We make change. We believe that everything we do should have real intent and design. We don’t believe in the ‘sticking plaster’ approach so every programme we deliver, every session we run and every decision we make is done with a genuine aim to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.
NCS at GMYN: How We Do It GMYN is a delivery partner of NCS in Manchester. We deliver the NCS programme with young people from Central and South Manchester and we have strong, working relationships with a number of schools and colleges across the area. Most of our programmes take place in the summer and autumn school holidays, which we supplement with a year-round, term-time School Support offer of life skills sessions. Our small NCS team oversees the programme from start to finish, planning and delivering recruitment events; building relationships with young people, schools and parents; and designing, organising, staffing and delivering the programme during school holidays. NCS in the North West is led by The Growth Company and nationally the programme is overseen by the NCST Trust, however, as Programme Coordinator, you will have autonomy in how you plan and deliver NCS at GMYN. You will also play a vital part in helping to design and shape the programme, whilst supporting key decision making. Head of Programmes Oversees all of GMYN’s programme delivery, reporting and safeguarding. NCS Manager Responsible for overseeing the programme as a whole, including managing contractual requirements, target, budgets, staffing, and liaising with managing partner and other stakeholders. Programme Lead Responsible for overseeing recruitment and retention of young people to the programme, and managing relationships with venues, and curriculum and community partners. Programme Coordinator x2 (one already in post, one being recruited) Responsible for day to day programme planning, managing relationships with schools and colleges, delivering recruitment and retention events, liaising with young people, parents and guardians, and leading on programme delivery. Joining #TeamG MYN: Our Offer
Joining #TeamGMYN: Our Offer At GMYN, we strive to be inclusive. Every member of #TeamGMYN is involved in all aspects of decision making, from strategic planning, setting the organisational values through to basic everyday practices to give everyone an active voice. We are responsive to the needs of the team and all support available is designed through consultation. We are regularly reviewing our practices to create a safe, welcoming and supportive environment and encourage suggestions and feedback from staff to improve our offer. • Health Assured: Staff have access to the Health Assured Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), a confidential third party offer to help you and your immediate family members deal with personal and professional problems that could be affecting your home life, work life, health and general wellbeing. The 24/7 service offers a wide range of support, including life support, legal information, bereavement support, medical information, CBT online and much more. Find out more here. • Wellbeing Days: Staff can also benefit from five annual wellbeing days. Wellbeing days are ‘no-questions-asked’ days of annual leave, to be taken on the day they are needed, to allow you ad-hoc time away from work to manage any personal circumstances. • Flexible Working: We operate flexible working hours and working from home policies to allow you to fit your personal commitments around your work. • Childcare Vouchers: Anyone registered with an existing childcare voucher scheme can continue to benefit from this with GMYN. • Accessible & Ethical: Our office is based at Greenfish Resource Centre, an ethical property committed to making social change. The building is accessible with a passenger lift, bike racks and gender neutral toilet and shower facilities. • Renumeration: We are a living wage employer, setting salaries in line with NJC scales and reviewing annually. Our processes also remove barriers to progression and empower staff to formally request performance-based payrises. • Annual Leave: All staff receive 25 days of annual leave, pro rata, rising after five years of continuous employment. • Pension: We offer an 8% pension scheme with 3% employer contributions. Whilst our staff team is diverse in many ways, we recognise that we are not currently representative of the diverse communities that we serve. We are currently working with specialist charities to adapt our practices to make sure that anyone, no matter their background, can work with us to their fullest potential. We therefore welcome applications from people from BAME backgrounds and people who identify as having additional needs or disabilities.
