Job Title: Transformation Consultant Salary: £33,222 to £51,668 Reports to: Managing Consultant Responsible to: Director of Business Group Location: 4th Floor, 11 Ducie Street, Manchester, M1 2JB (However, the post holder may be required to work at any establishment at any time throughout the duration of their contract, normally within the UK, or as set out under the terms of their contract) Job Purpose: The NHS Transformation Unit (TU) is an NHS organisation (hosted by Salford Royal) which operates as an NHS Internal Consultancy and provides a range of services which can be tailored to the needs of each of each client in a more cost effective way than other commercial consultancies. The TU works with clients to ensure that change is delivered within a strategic context and drive forward new thinking in how public services can be delivered differently, to be more effective, more efficient and achieve better outcomes for patients and service users. The TU is innovative, with a track record of successfully delivering complex transformation programmes and major service reconfiguration, including Healthier Together. We are expanding the TU and aim to recruit an ambitious and experienced Consultant. The post holder will support the Transformation team to ensure that programmes and projects within the TU portfolio are planned and managed effectively. The post-holder must be adaptable, flexible and a good communicator. Given the nature and role, there may be a requirement to react quickly to external influences and events, and support other members of the TU in general programme tasks as directed by the Associate and Assistant Directors of the team. Main tasks/overview of responsibilities: The post holder will work closely with the wider management team to deliver projects and programmes within the TU portfolio. Their responsibilities will include: • Manage specific projects and activities within the TU portfolio including development of project plans, reporting progress and undertaking risk and issue management to ensure effective and timely delivery. www.transformationunitgm.nhs.uk 2
• Contribute to planning and executing engagement with clinicians to understand the case for change, develop future models of care and implement change. • Manage key relationships with clinicians and others as relevant to areas of work leading on. • Create and contribute to project documentation including business cases. • Plan and execute communications activity including meetings, workshops, and events. • Chair and lead meetings and events. • Deputise for the Assistant Director as required. The post holder’s prime responsibility is to ensure that together with the Transformation Consultants and Managing Consultants, assigned projects produce the required deliverables within the defined quality, time and cost constraints. The above is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities, and outcomes required of the role. The job holder will carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by their line manager. Job Summary: Planning and organising • To plan, organise and deliver discrete projects and activities within the TU portfolio. • To create, maintain and track of project plans reporting on variance through status reports. • To track risks and issues and take appropriate action resolving issues along where appropriate and escalating where necessary. • To plan, organise and deliver communications activity such as meetings, workshops, and events. • To be responsible for self-organisation/time management. www.transformationunitgm.nhs.uk 3
Communications and leadership • Manages key relationships with clinicians and others as relevant to areas of work leading on. • Fosters relationships with established contacts and team members and proactively manages these relationships. • Leads and facilitates workshops and events as required. • Delivers presentations to a range of audiences. • Act as an ambassador for the Directorate communicating professionally in all contacts, including with senior stakeholders and clinicians, both face to face and via email. • Able to communicate sensitive information about review recommendations or change with a high level of diplomacy. Partnership working • Must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team whilst managing own workload. • To actively seek and develop positive working relationships within the TU team and wider Directorate. • To maintain and promote positive relationships with clinicians and others engaged in projects and programmes. Research, Development and Audit • To take responsibility for own learning and development including identifying any areas of learning that might add to the knowledge base of the wider team. • Undertakes research to support projects and programmes. • Analyses data to provide evidence for projects and programmes. • Maintenance of risk registers and issue logs. Responsibilities for Human Resources • To provide advice and guidance to more junior members of the team. • To deputise for Senior Consultants and Assistant Director as appropriate and as directed by line management. Responsibility for Patient Care (including monitoring, diagnostics + investigations) • To support projects and programmes that will improve patient care and outcomes. • To ensure patient input is a core element of all improvement work. Responsibility for Policy/ Service Development • To identify areas for improvement in project management methodologies, tools, templates and documentation used by the TU team. • To contribute to the development of tools, templates, documentation methodologies and approaches used by the TU team. www.transformationunitgm.nhs.uk 4
Analysis and data management • Able to identify data requirements, define analysis requirements, design data gathering and desired outputs. • Able to assess the robustness of data and ensure data analysis for projects and programmes is sufficient and will pass scrutiny • Able to perform complex analyses on data relevant to projects and programmes, including presenting data in a variety of formats, bar charts, statistical process control charts. • Responsible for tracking data, including risks and issues, continuously to quickly resolve failures to meet project requirements and act accordingly to inform team members as appropriate. Responsibilities for physical and financial resources • Responsible for managing the project budgets, tracks expenditure and provides reports to Assistant Director of TU, as required. • Authorised signatory for small payments in relation to the projects/programmes (e.g. authorised signatory for travel and day to day operational expenses). Freedom to Act • The post holder is guided by precedent; works within the constraints of terms and conditions of service, policies and procedures. Priorities are set but post holder manages own workload and works independently. Guidance is provided by the Associate and Assistant Directors of TU. Due to the Trust’s commitment to continuous improvement, it is likely that the post will evolve over time.
