August 2017 Dear Colleague in Industry, The enclosed materials represent our initial announcement to industry and the dermatology community of the 14th Annual Maui Derm for Dermatologists meeting. Our program once again features fair and balanced lectures and panel discussions involving our world-class group of educators. Our workshops are conducted in small group settings and provide intimate “hands on” live patient demonstrations facilitated by leaders in their respective fields. Registration is Saturday, January 27, 2018. The meeting begins Sunday, January 28 and runs through Thursday, February 1. Visit our program online at: MauiDerm.com. In order to extend the reach of our educational program, most of our meeting content will be published online as the Maui Derm 2018 Online Lecture Series which can be viewed at: MauiDermNews.com. Selected presen- tations will be edited and presented online to enable dermatologists and aesthetic medicine physicians from around the world to access the lectures presented in Maui. Daily e-Blast Summaries will be sent to over 12,000 dermatologists as well as NPs and PAs working in dermatology. Our lectures will be covered and reported upon by editors from the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Derma- tology, SKINMed Journal, Dermatology Times and Cosmetic Surgery Times. Maui Derm 2018 will continue its strategic relationship with DermTube.com to provide daily online video podcast reporting of the hottest top- ics presented at the Maui Derm 2018 podium. There are opportunities outside of the educational program available to hold roundtable discussions utilizing our faculty members. Please contact us if this is opportunity is of interest to you. Call for Posters + Abstracts Abstract Guidelines Abstracts for publication in the Maui Derm syllabus may also be submitted. Abstracts should be a maximum of 500 words (does not include authors/title, tables or references providing they are not too lengthy). The deadline for abstract submission is December 15, 2017. Submitted abstracts should be emailed to the program director Dr. George Martin at: drmauiderm@gmail.com. Encore presentations are accepted. Poster Guidelines Maui Derm 2018 has created a limited amount of space in the exhibition hall for poster exhibition. The deadline for submitting a request to exhibit a poster is December 15, 2017. A PDF of the poster must be submitted for review and selection to the program director, Dr. George Martin at: drmauiderm@gmail.com. Encore presentations are accepted. Please read the following guidelines carefully. Poster exhibits will be located in the Exhibit Area. It is not required that you be present each day during the exhibit/breakfast hour and during exhibit/coffee breaks to present and discuss your poster. Program Description INTRODUCTION Advances in Cosmetic and Medical Dermatology Mission Statement To increase physicians’ knowledge in areas of medical and cosmetic dermatology in order to enable the physi- cians to provide better care for their patients. PROGRAM RATIONALE The Dermatology landscape is ever changing. There have been significant advances with regards to the diag- nosis, management and treatment of both medical and cosmetic dermatologic conditions. Dermatologists require direction and insight into the proper management of these conditions. TARGET AUDIENCE This educational activity is designed for Dermatologists. LEARNING OBJECTIVES As a result of attending the Maui Derm for Dermatologists 2018, attendees should be able to: 1. Explain the pathogenesis of various dermatological conditions 2. Cite the mechanisms of action of drugs and therapies that are commonly prescribed by the dermatolo- gist 3. Describe potential adverse effects and resistance issues that may be related to the use of drugs and therapies prescribed by clinicians in dermatology 4. Describe techniques to avoid and manage potential side effects and complications related to dermato- logic therapies and procedures 5. Define appropriate outcome measures for the optimal follow-up of patients with dermatologic diseases as well as those receiving surgical and cosmetic procedures 6. Assess the data related to emerging therapies for the treatment of a variety of dermatologic diseases 7. Recognize the important role of clinician/patient communication ENDURING MATERIALS Maui Derm e-News Overview Maui Derm e-News is a monthly digital newsletter that is distributed via email to approximately 17,000 der- matologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinicians, researchers, and members of industry who are involved in the field of dermatology. Each month, the Maui Derm editorial team culls information from the Maui Derm presentations and creates synopses of the presentation highlights. Each brief synopsis is reviewed and approved by the original physician presenter prior to inclusion in the e-News. Each monthly issue contains a list of Hot Topics that are hyperlinked to brief abstracts and, when available, links to original archived web- casts of full presentations. Topic and content selection criteria: • Monthly topics are selected by George Martin, MD, and the Maui Derm editorial team. • Topics are selected based on attendee evaluations of the recent high interest clinical presentations at the Maui Derm Conference and Maui Derm NP + PA Conferences. • All selected articles contain links back to their original presentation. Deployment and Global Distribution: As a publication partner with Maui Derm, The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology assists in the de- livery of Maui Derm e-News each month, expanding the dissemination of this high-quality clinical information beyond the active members and attendees of the Maui Derm Conference Series.
