Mozambique: Natural Resourses Mozambique has considerable reserves of natural resources and minerals, most notably gold, coal, iron, silver, graphite and natural gas. The country also has forest resources, such as umbila, miombo, pau preto, ntondo and chanfuta. The agricultural sector accounts for over 1/3 of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country, from which the following products can be highlighted: cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, cashew nuts, copra, tea, citrus fruits, and cassava. There is a high potential for the production of rice, soybeans and potatoes. The country has also heavy sands and fish products (being prawns and lobster the main export products). Because of the geographical conditions, natural beauty and warm climate, Mozambique is presently among the main tourist destinations in Southern Africa. Main attractions are the beaches (Bazaruto, Tofo, Wimbe, Inhaca, Ponta D'ouro, Quirimbas Island, among others), and parks and nature reserves within the country like the world famous Gorongoza National Park. 6 | BCI - Your Financial Partner in Mozambique

This performance was affected by: Strong deceleration of the extractive industry, emphasized by the decline in the exports of raw materials, particularly coal, which reduced 27,4% compared with the first quarter of 2018, and 6,2% compared to the previous quarter; Continued contraction of the electricity, water and gas distribution sector, which is being impacted negatively by the reduction of public investments since 2017. The economy continues to grow in a broader base, and less dependent of the extractive industry, as happened in the early stages of post-crisis recovery. It’s important to note the performance of the construction sector which grew 1,2% after three consecutive quarters of activity reduction. 8 | BCI - Your Financial Partner in Mozambique Source: INE, Contas Nacionais I Trimestre 2019.
