Council Speech attached. Thanks to Zack and Liz for attending the Council Meeting and Zack for speaking. Both Cr Castaldo and Cr Langdon spoke in support of the Special Rate and the ITA achievements. Cr Castaldo spoke about ‘fast tracking’ some potential bigger projects. Cr Langdon spoke about wanting Council to review the ‘rate capping of the matched dollar’ in the near future. He stated that Council should reward Traders Associations that choose to back themselves and raise extra funding, by matching their contribution. Cr Peter Castaldo said council are looking at matching $ for $ if Traders have been paying extra rate for more than 5 years. He is also keen to support lighting of street.
Cr Peter Castaldo thinks residents should know about 35% fee businesses pay to UberEats, and should be encouraged to eat in house. He also discussed that council was working on a walking strategy. Another idea he would like is a community noticeboard. Is this an opportunity? He discussed Waterdale road (near old CBA). He said crossing the road feels unsafe as many cars come from different directions. One idea to combat that is closing it off like a piazza. Finally, he discussed the Seddon St development. There will be significant apartments and café/restaurant on lower level. At least 6 years away. 5. Asked group if anyone else received letter. Next General Meeting: Tuesday November 20th – AGM and Christmas Party Meeting Closed: 6:48pm Ivanhoe Traders Association Speech @ Banyule Council Meeting 06-08-2018 Good Evening Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councillors and Council Officers, My name is Stavros Zikou and I form part of the Marketing and Centre Coordinator Team for the Ivanhoe Traders Association. I stand proudly here tonight to express what a dynamic and active Association the Ivanhoe Traders is and continues to be. In keeping with our Strategic Business Plan and Marketing Budgets, these are some of the key Ivanhoe Traders promotions and activities achieved via the scheme over the past 5 years;
• Creating and executing an extensive range of strategic marketing promotions and campaigns such as Major Events, Trader Shopping Events, Industry based Promotions (Dine in Ivanhoe, Fashion in Ivanhoe and Glamour in Ivanhoe), Competitions, Fashion Parades, Professional Development Seminars, New Christmas Decorations just to name a few • With the rise and rise of the Internet, developing an increased presence online via our email database, relevant social media networks and our state of the art new website which was just re-launched. Technology changes quickly and this is Ivanhoe’s third rendition of its website in 10 years which now pulls live information daily from our Members and Traders making us an industry leader. • Introduction and development of multiple shopping events with beneficial post event data demonstrating significant ROI into the Ivanhoe Shopping Centre economy • Continued lobbying of Council and other relevant authorities producing beneficial precinct outcomes • Building strategic partnerships with key organisations to best promote the Shopping Centre. The current example being for the entire month of August the Ivanhoe Traders have partnered with Destination Melbourne / Discover Your Own Backyard (DYOB) creating and executing a comprehensive marketing campaign to further put Ivanhoe on the Map and encouraging people to ‘Spend a Day out in Ivanhoe’. Unfortunately, David Dzanovski, President of the ITA, is a last minute apology due to working in his restaurant business so I will now hand you over to the Treasurer of the Ivanhoe Traders Association; Zack Silvestro from Coffee Plus, one of Ivanhoe’s favourite Coffee Hangouts. Many of these achievements have helped been made possible by Council’s generous NEAR matched dollar for dollar contribution. The Ivanhoe Traders, via the special rate, value the partnership between themselves and Council and are very grateful for Council’s contribution. The ITA is aware that Council resolved back in April 2012 to cap its contribution at 2011-2012 levels for all of the City of Banyule’s eleven special rate schemes, including the Ivanhoe Shopping Centre. The ITA believes the matched funding goes a long way to ensuring the Association and Shopping Precinct remains vibrant, relevant and competitive and therefore encourages Council to reconsider this cap in future budgets. The Association has requested the proposed 2018-2023 special rate scheme continues raising $120,000 per annum by the Traders to keep providing for a range of exciting initiatives that are currently being considered. These include; Exploration and development of contemporary capital works projects to give Ivanhoe an edge over other local shopping strips. Further targeted promotional and marketing campaigns to raise the profile of Ivanhoe and keep the Centre competitive in the short to medium term. In conclusion over the past months the traders’ committee have been active in the rate renewal process which included attending meetings and having opportunities for direct input into the new strategic business plan for the next 5 years. The business plan will act as an important document to assist the Traders Association to keep on growing and achieving targets to continually promote and enhance the centre especially in these current challenging retail economic times. The Ivanhoe Traders Association considers Ivanhoe as one of Melbourne’s premium strip shopping centres and values the special rate as an important factor in maintaining its excellence. Therefore, the Traders would like continue the good working relationship with Council in the years to come. Thank you.
