THE WESTERN FRONT 1918–2018 The Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux In a time of trench warfare, the Second Battle of Villers- Bretonneux was an unconventional but highly effective night counter-offensive. Launched by Australia’s 13th and 15th Brigades, this surprise rush assault quickly surrounded German forces and drove them out of town. This one attack liberated the strategically vital town of Villers-Bretonneux and helped end the fighting on the Western Front. Today we pay tribute to those who served, with the release of the latest coin in the Western Front series. This will be the final release from the Western Front three year program.
