ABOUT KAZAKHSTAN Kazakhstan is in the middle of Central Asia, a vast territory that lies between Asia and Europe. This location endows the country with geopolitical and economic opportunities in both the East and the West, and it’s no surprise that the architecture in one of the world’s newest capitals is so varied and multi-directional. Kazakhstan is the ninth biggest country in the world (2 717 300 square km) and the second biggest country in the CIS. Its area could simultaneously accommodate European countries such as France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Norway and Finland, or Asian countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq, Japan and Vietnam. You can find more information about Kazakhstan in: https://expo2017astana.com/en/page_id=218 Astana is part of Kazakhstan’s Brand In July 1999, Astana was awarded a UNESCO “city for peace” prize. The new capital has all the fundamental characteristics reasons to become one of the world’s 30 best cities. Kazakhstan’s modern capital is continuously growing and changing. It is becoming increasingly attractive both for the people of Kazakhstan and for foreign visitors. Its modern architecture, which combines the best European and oriental traditions, fully reflects the new capital’s role as an economic, political and cultural center. The city has invited star architects like Norman Foster and Kisho Kurokawa to reinvent Astana's look, transforming the city into an urban landscape that makes you feel a little bit like you've travelled forward in time. Astana’s edifices combine both European and Oriental motifs, so for visitors from most parts of the world, somewhere, something homey can be found in the Kazakh capital. 30TH IPMA WORLD CONGRESS: "BREAKTHROUGH COMPETENCES FOR MANAGING CHANGE"

If travelling by bus, try not to wait at bus stops alone. Ask someone to meet you at the bus stop if you are travelling late and have a long way to walk. Local friends or colleagues can often give advice about the best bus for your destination. Remember it never hurts to ask. Take along someone familiar with the system and the route for your first trip. Have an idea of where you want to go and which streets will get you there before you use the system. Vehicles are often crowded, especially during rush hours so pick your travel times if you have some flexibility. Just like in any crowded situation, keep a good hold on your belongings. If you are travelling a long way by train, make sure someone knows which train you are travelling on and when you are due to arrive. Always have cash with you and a back-up plan if you are separated from the people you are travelling with.
