Profiles
Tom Albanese, Director, Nevada Copper
Tom Albanese is the former Chief Executive Officer of Vedanta Resources plc, a
leading global diversified resources company, with metals and mining, oil and gas,
and commercial power operations primarily in India and Africa. Tom has
previously served on the Boards of Konkola Copper Mines, Ivanhoe Mines,
Palabora Mining Company and Turquoise Hill Resources Limited.
Tom brings a wealth of mining experience from Rio Tinto, the second largest
global diversified mining company, where he was appointed a member of the Rio
Tinto Board in March 2006 and the Chief Executive for the period beginning May
2007 to January 2013.

René Awambeng, Global Head, Afreximbank
René Awambeng is an experienced international banker, with a successful track
record in all aspects of structured trade, commercial and investment banking. He
has considerable experience in corporate and investment banking, structured
trade and commodity finance, corporate and regional coverage business, cross
border trade flows, risk management, sales, marketing, customer relationship,
project finance, as well as general banking management in both Francophone,
Anglophone and Lusophone Africa. René joined the African Export-Import Bank
(Afreximbank) in 2016 where he leads the design and implementation of
Afreximbank’s client-focused business strategies. He also oversees the
management of relations with governments at the branch office level.

Dr Robert Besseling, Executive Director, EXXAFRICA
Dr Robert Besseling founded EXX AFRICA in 2015 after a decade in political risk
forecasting at industry-leading companies such as London-based Exclusive
Analysis and NYSE-listed IHS Global. At EXX AFRICA, Robert leads a team of
partners and contributing analysts to produce commercially relevant and
actionable analysis on African political, security, and economic risk. Robert also
retains the lead on many consulting projects for blue chip corporations in a wide
variety of sectors.

Lawrence Dechambenoit, Vice President Corporate Relations EMEA, Rio Tinto
Lawrence Dechambenoit is Vice President Corporate Relations EMEA for Rio
Tinto, the world’s second largest mining company. He leads Rio Tinto’s external
affairs, stakeholder relations and business development efforts across the
Africa, Europe and Middle East regions and is also responsible
for corporate governance matters in the EU and the UK. Prior to joining Rio
Tinto, Lawrence was a Senior Director at the Albright Stonebridge Group and
ran his own commercial diplomacy consultancy. Lawrence started his career at
the UN. He worked at UN headquarters in New York l, but also at UN offices in
Kenya, Botswana and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. At the UN
Lawrence was in charge of peace-making efforts in the Democratic Republic of
the Congo.

F. W. de Klerk, former President of South Africa
F. W. de Klerk served as State President of South Africa from 1989 to 1994 and
Deputy President from 1994 to 1996. During his time in office de Klerk
worked with Nelson Mandela to successfully end the country's apartheid
system of racial segregation. After leaving office he established the F.W. de
Klerk Foundation in 2000. In 2004 Mr. de Klerk brought together a number of
respected former national leaders to join him as founding members of the
Global Leadership Foundation (GLF), a non---profit organisation that aims to
play a constructive role in the promotion of peace, democracy and
development in countries across the world.

Robert Friedland, Chairman & Founder, Ivanhoe Mines
For more than 25 years, international financier Robert Friedland has been
recognized by leaders of the international financial sector and mineral
resource industries as an entrepreneurial explorer, technology innovator and
company builder. Mr. Friedland has successfully developed a portfolio of
respected public and private companies whose initiatives have led to several
of the world’s most significant mineral discoveries and mine developments,
applications of disruptive technologies and contributions to significant
economic growth in established and emerging markets in Asia, the Asia
Pacific Region, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Americas.

Phumzile Langeni, President’s Trade Envoy
A stockbroker by training, Ms. Langeni is executive chairman of Afropulse
Group (Pty) Ltd, nonexecutive chairman of the Mineworkers Investment
Company (Pty) Limited and Primedia Holdings. Ms. Langeni also serves as an
independent non-executive director on some companies listed on the JSE,
amongst others Massmart Holdings Limited, Imperial Holdings Limited,
Redefine Properties Limited. Ms. Langeni was on the 16 th April 2018
appointed by His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of the Republic of
South Africa as one of four Special Investment Envoys tasked with raising 100
Billion Dollars over a five year period. Ms. Langeni previously served as an
Economic Advisor to the former Minister of Minerals and Energy Ms. BP
Sonjica.

Dr Carlos Lopes, Professor at UCT and visiting Fellow at Oxford
Dr Carlos Lopes is Professor at Graduate School of Development Policy and
Practice and Faculty of Commerce, University of Cape Town and Visiting Fellow
at Oxford Martin School, University of Oxford. He is a member of a dozen
Boards, including the Global Commission for Economy and Climate, Kofi Annan
Foundation, Graduate Institute of International and Developments Studies in
Geneva and the Lisbon University Institute, that he Chairs.
He served the United Nations in several prominent roles, the latest being the
Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, based in Addis
Ababa (2012-2016).

Daniel Major, CEO, Goviex Uranium
Daniel Major is a mining engineer from the Camborne School of Mines in the
UK. His career spans over 30 years in the mining industry where he has
established a solid track record initially with Rio Tinto at the Rossing Uranium
Mine in Namibia, and Amplats and JCI Ltd in South Africa. Mr. Major was a
rated mining analyst with HSBC Plc followed by JP Morgan Chase & Co. in
London. More recently Mr. Major was Chief Executive and later Non-Executive
Chairman of Basic Element Mining and Resource Division in Russia, and held
leadership positions in several Canadian listed mining companies with
exploration and producing assets in Canada, Russia and South America.

Christopher Marks, Head of Emerging Markets, MUFG
Christopher Marks has worked in the financial markets and financial sector
advisory for more than 20 years. He is Head of Emerging Markets, Corporate
Banking EMEA at MUFG. He previously served as Senior Advisor at the African
Development Bank in Abidjan and continues to act as Expert - Capital
Markets/Debt Management for the International Monetary Fund/AFRITAC. He
was previously Global Head of Debt Capital Markets at BNP Paribas in London,
having spent 15 years at the bank. In this role Christopher, was responsible for
all capital markets origination and execution, including associated structuring,
across all sovereign, public sector, corporate, high yield, special situations
loan-bond and financial institution client segments worldwide.

Zemedeneh Negatu, Global Chairman, Fairfax Africa Fund
Zemedeneh Negatu is widely recognized as one of Africa’s top business leaders
and has received numerous global awards and recognitions. An American of
Ethiopian origin, Zemedeneh has worked in the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, the
Middle East and Africa. He has advised Wall Street investment banks,
Governments, Sovereign Wealth Funds and multinational corporations. He
was the founder of Ernst & Young Ethiopia and served as its Managing Partner
for 18 years. He is now the Global Chairman of the American investment firm
Fairfax African Fund, LLC. Fairfax has invested tens of millions of dollars in
Africa with significant additional investments committed for the next three
years.

Akinwole Omoboriowo II, Chairman & CEO Genesis Energy Group
Akinwole Omoboriowo II (AOII) has over 20 years of experience in the Oil &
Gas and Power Sectors in Africa. As well as being CEO of Genesis Energy
Holdings, he sits on the board of multiple high-profile organizations including
GEL Utility, the SHELL foundation and the Global Thinkers Forum amongst
others. AOII was listed among the most Influential Figures in African Power
Sector for two years consecutively of 2014 and 2015, he was nominated for a
lifetime Achievement Award at the African Utility Industry Awards Cape Town-
South Africa in 2016, and most recently listed as one of the Top 10 Most
Influential Power Elites in Africa 2018 by ESI Africa.
