MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Colleague, On behalf of the Ontario Association of Gastroenterology (OAG) I would like to invite you, our members, to attend the 13th Annual International Symposium on Liver and IBD Review at the Westin Trillium House – Blue Mountain in Collingwood, Ontario. This year the symposium will be held on January 17 -19, 2020. We are looking forward to yet another great weekend of education, entertainment, and socializing with colleagues and friends in this family-friendly setting. The theme of this year’s symposium is “One Patient, Two Diseases.” Those of us who manage inflammatory bowel disease and patients with liver disease have come to recognize that there are some patients who suffer from both inflammatory bowel disease as well as liver diseases. In addition, often patients undergoing treatment for inflammatory bowel disease are faced with risk factors for liver disease and require pre-emptive management of the liver prior to initiating therapy for their inflammatory bowel disease. There are numerous intricacies and approaches to keeping our patients safe and provide the necessary treatments. Managing the complexities of two disease states in a single patient requires expertise and experience that we plan to share with you. We have maintained the same format as in previous years by spitting the Saturday program into morning and late afternoon sessions and we will wind down the educational component on Sunday morning with our Case Presentations. This family-friendly setting allows you the opportunity to enjoy the winter activities offered here in Collingwood with your family and friends. We are all looking forward to our President’s Throwback to the 80’s Party scheduled for Saturday evening. It will showcase memorable foods and treats from the 80s that we grew up eating. We will also enjoy the great music of the 80s to make it a very enjoyable and fun evening. To give the adults the opportunity to enjoy the party, we have planned an evening of fun and frolic for the little ones. This, along with our other events, give us a great opportunity to interact with our industry partners and sponsors. It would not be possible to host this symposium without the unrestricted financial support of our industry colleagues; please take some time to chat with them and thank them for their support of the OAG Warm regards, ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF GASTROENTEROLOGY Imran Rasul Imran Rasul, MD, HBSc., FRCP(C) President
