Pre-Arrival Requirements • Complete the GMIT Student Arrival Form (link already emailed to all students). If you do not complete this form you must arrange and pay for your own transport to Galway. • Download Irish Government Health Services Executive (HSE) COVID 19 tracking app to your phone. On-Arrival • Present your ‘Passenger Locator Form’ Receipt • There will be a meet and greet desk for all incoming international students in Dublin Airport • Please download Irish Government COVID 19 Tracking App to your phone using Dublin Airport free Wi-Fi. • There is a dedicated Airport Collection (Meet & Greet Team) that will arrange your transfer from Dublin Airport to Galway. • The dedicated Transfer service will drop all students off at Glásan in Galway or outside the Garda Station on the Dublin Road (opposite GMIT). If you ARE NOT living within walking distance of these locations, then GMIT will arrange a taxi to your accommodation. Post-Arrival SHOPPING • With respect to shopping during your self-quarantine period, the advice is as follows: • Online shopping is mandatory • Or ask your friends who are not in isolation to help with shopping and drop outside your house (do not meet them during this collection period) PRE-ARRIVAL BRIEFING FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 2020
Post-Arrival • HSE Post Arrival Covid PCR Testing (for those in self-quarantine) • The test should be booked in advance of arrival in Ireland and must be booked for a date at least 5 days after arrival (E.g. Day 6). • The test is free of charge. • In Galway, testing will occur at Galway Airport, Carnmore, Co. Galway H91 VWX2 and Galway City Centre Covid Test Centre, Forster Street, Galway H91 N1FD • You must keep the written confirmation of your booking until you receive the results of your test. • You can exit self-quarantine after Day 6 if you receive a negative (not detected) PCR Test • Download the Covid-19 Tracker App and update status daily • Complete Online Registration (link already sent to existing students, except deferrals/repeats) PRE-ARRIVAL BRIEFING FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 2020
Post-Arrival On Campus Full Orientation (online) will be provided before Classes commence The Health & Safety of our staff and students will always be our priority. Blended learning approach • This will entail replacing where necessary (based on H&S requirements) much face to face on site delivery with online delivery through innovative virtual teaching. • All programmes will adopt a different approach with a different % of time on campus for students, with delivery timetabled across the week Monday to Friday 9-6pm inclusive. • Onsite delivery prioritizing practicals/labs/workshops/tutorials across all Schools. • As the semester progresses, increase on-campus activities PRE-ARRIVAL BRIEFING FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 2020

Health Unit & Recommendation The GMIT Student Health Unit provides an acute illness and emergency supports if you become ill while in college from 9am to 5pm (Mon-Fri) GP visit for a €10 Fee. Nurse visit is Free The service does not include an ‘out of hours service’ therefore we encourage students; • To register with a local GP practice in Galway or Mayo upon arrival. • Once registered with a local GP (Medical Doctor) international students will have access to an ‘out of hours’ rota system • Galway East Medical Practice are the GP (Medical) service that manage GMIT’s Student Health Unit in Galway and are located in Doughiska. Once you arrive, you can email reception@galwayeastgp.ie to register with this GP Practice if you wish. Details of the Medical provider in Mayo and Letterfrack are available on the studenthub. • Students with a PPSN (you can request this after you arrive) will be able to get a free consultation with a GP (Medical Doctor) if you have COVID-19 symptoms and if referred for a test, this will also be free • Additionally, all international students must also purchase appropriate Medical Insurance, please see further details on our website: PRE-ARRIVAL BRIEFING FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 2020
What happens if I get COVID 19? • If you have any common symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19), you SHOULD NOT ATTEND CAMPUS. • You should self-isolate and contact the GMIT Student Health Unit (contact details below) straight away and the Institute Nurse will advise the next course of action. • Student Health Unit: studenthealthunit@gmit.ie or telephone: 091 742228 / 087 9971574 (Emergency Mobile Number) • University Hospital Galway Emergency Department (091) 544556 [For outside normal college hours] • Additionally, you must notify GMIT immediately by emailing covidofficer@gmit.ie or phoning 091 742708 if: • A positive test outcome for COVID-19 has been issued by any healthcare provider and you are required to self-isolate. • Or if you have been identified as a contact and must self-isolate. The Clayton Hotel in Ballybrit, Galway will be made available for a student to self-isolate in line with public health advice, if an international student's full-time accommodation is unsuitable for self-isolation purposes. What happens if I get COVID 19? In the rare case that a student is hospitalized due to COVID-19: • The Department of Health has confirmed that all acute healthcare needs of international students will be provided free of charge to the student. • A representative of GMIT will act, with student consent, as the liaison between medical staff and the student’s parents where appropriate, to advise them their son/daughter has been hospitalized. • GMIT will continue to keep in touch with both the student and parent/sponsor each day for the duration of the hospital stay. Your Students' Union –Who We Are We are an organization run by students for students! We represent all students across the 5 campuses in different areas within the college and externally. There are four officers. 1. President- Colin Kearney 2. Deputy President Education- Ricarda Bolle 3. Vice- President for the Mayo Campus- Emily McGrory 4. Vice- President for Welfare- Emily Walshe What we do Collectively, we aim to represent all the students of GMIT. This means we sit on many different committees and working groups. We sit on these and make sure your voice is heard! We also provide help and resources to any student that needs it whether it's an academic issue or a personal issue, we are here to help you! The Fun Stuff: Student Life We play a huge part in making student life as fun and enjoyable as possible! We run many campaigns throughout the year to bring awareness to issues facing students. We also organize lots of fun events and entertainment both on and off campus! Attending these events are a fantastic way to have some fun and make friends. Culture Through Comedy Night We have organized a fun comedy night hosted by Irish comedian Steve Bennett to help take away any boredom some of you might face if isolating in the next few weeks. You'll be guaranteed to be laughing your socks off so make sure you pack an extra pair Welcome Packs The team are working hard organizing packs with lots of bits and goodies for you to enjoy and as soon as they are ready, we will let you know. International Students Officer Election While there are 4 full time officers of the Union, there are nearly 8,000 students in GMIT. This means that different demographics of students will have a part time officer in order to get better representation. The International Students Officer The officer will express any needs and views of the international students to the Union as well raise any concerns they might be having. Nominations open today and the officer will be elected over the next two weeks.
