Dear parent/carer, At BDB your child’s academic progress is of paramount importance to us. The transition from Year 10 into Year 11 can be a stressful and anxious time for both student and parents. To support you during this time we have created a booklet of information that will give you an insight into the courses your child will be studying and some useful, practical advice that you can use to help your child prepare for their GCSE’s. Although the start of GCSE exams may feel like a distant event, it is vitally important that students begin their preparations as soon as possible. Feedback we receive from previous cohorts is that, if they were able to re-sit their exams they would have made sure they started their preparations earlier. With this in mind, I would appreciate it if you would encourage your child to begin their preparations as soon as possible. Within this booklet you will find information about study skills that you can use to support your child including: revision strategies, course information, and useful websites. Finally, on the school website you will also find a Year 10 into 11 Transition presentation that covers study skills and mental well-being in more detail. The Year 10into11 presentation provides practical examples of strategies you can use at home to make sure your child is effectively using their time to prepare for their GCSE exams. I would encourage you to access this as soon as possible so you are able to provide the best possible support for your child. I look forward to welcoming your child back in September and hope that a collaborative approach between parents and staff at BDB will see your child achieve the best possible outcomes next summer. Mr David Head of Year 11
