Page 4 August 2020 Chairman’s Report Well thankfully we are getting back to normal in our Branch, with all the sections getting good attendances again. John Stokes' Veteran Section had a very good turnout of members, where a number spoke about their projects, so if you're interested in Veteran vehicles, do go and join John and the others. The Commercial guys have interesting meetings, so if you own or are thinking of getting a Commercial, go and join John Campbell and his troops. The Motorcycle meeting had another good turnout with 60 plus members in at- tendance and 12 motorcycles parked out the back. The guest speaker was David Morley, who has been a speaker for us a few times in the past, bringing along a brilliant motorcycle for us to see, his recently restored ex Norris Farrow 1980's McIntosh Suzuki race motorcycle. Just like all David's other restored mo- torcycles this one was truly outstanding. David told us his interesting story from a 19 year old novice racer in the UK and of coming to New Zealand in the mid 1960's. Club Night was a ‘noggin ‘n natter’ evening. Around 30 members turned up, plus visitor Dudley Stace who will be joining our Branch. I asked members to tell us what they got up to during lockdown - there were some interesting stories. Shaaran Price provided us with a tasty supper before we went home. At next months Club Night we will have a chap talking about tyres. The Vintage section had their monthly meeting on the 25 th July. There were a few regulars missing but the others had a good meeting. Bill Quinn joined the group and he brought along his 1924 Oakland which was bought in a sad state, but now is in showroom condition. The July Club Run was plotted by John Stokes, starting and finishing at John's country residence in Mauku, west of Pukekohe. Lynda and I arrived at 12:45pm and were pleasantly surprised to find 12 motorcycles and 33 other vehicles, with around 80 people. John gave the group a briefing, then at 1:15pm they were sent on their way. Lynda, with help of John and I, laid out a table full of food she had prepared and had tea and coffee ready for the members when they got back. John said this was the first time his house was full to bursting. Member's thanked John for a great country run and Lynda for the afternoon tea. Coming up, Lynda and I, plus Tracey Winterbottom will be going down to Wan- ganui for the National AGM on the 15th August. The PV, PWV, P60V & P80V rally entry forms are out, so please support the Branch and plotters, Gavin Welch and Sophie Zhao on this event. Keep Those 2, 3 and 4 wheels turning safely. Martin Spicer
August 2020 Page 5 Club Captain’s Report Isn’t this nice that we can have a full report of events for the month? Congrat- ulations to everyone for surviving lockdown, Level 3, Level 2 and now enjoying the benefit of Level 1. Until further notice, may I remind everyone to observe our new rules of “Signing the Register on entering & also sanitising your hands”. Thank you. John Stokes started the month with his Veteran meeting on 4 th July, where there was an excellent turnout of members. The 4th July was also the first main Branch event – Independence Day Kiwi Style. Invitations were sent out to all members to come and enjoy good company, good food and good fun. I was very pleased that 70 people had booked for this event, hosted and catered for by me. It was an excellent way of re-starting the Branch via a get together. I believe that Mid Week Tourers are still looking for a co-ordinator, so please give Norm Dewhurst a ring if you think this could be of interest to you. The Motorcycle Section meeting saw an excellent turnout of over 60 people, who came along and listened to Dave Morley tell about his McIntosh Suzuki. July Club Night was a simple ‘noggin n natter’ and we had just on 30 people come out. It was good to catch up with people we hadn’t seen for nearly four months. Martin got everyone to give a short talk about what they had been up to during lockdown and beyond. Poor Pat Campbell took the prize for be- ing the most adventurous – well not really, poor Pat had an argument with her garden and the garden won, with Pat wearing a “plaster of honour”. Pleased to say, Pat is now out of plaster but is having to wear an arm brace. Speedy recovery Pat. The Vintage Section held their meeting for the month of July where numbers were slightly down. However they had a good meeting. Our final event for July was the monthly Club Run (the first since February) which John Stokes had kindly volunteered to plot, using one of his Veteran runs, but extending it. Martin and I arrived at John’s property to find it heaving with vehicles and more kept coming in. Finally, 33 vehicles plus 12 motorcycles, making about 80 people in total leaving John’s for a lovely scenic tour of Franklin. Whilst they were away having fun driving, I was using John’s kitchen to get all the afternoon tea ready. Crickey, we didn’t have enough mugs, so we sent Martin back down to Pukekohe to go and buy some disposable cups – phew problem solved. Afternoon tea was just about ready when they started to arrive back and what a lot of chatter and laughter could be heard. Won- derful! Everyone had had a great afternoon. Thanks John for plotting the route and letting us have the use of your lovely home in Mauku. By the time you read this, we will have had our branch AGM and if Martin and I are voted back, we will be driving south to attend the National AGM at Wan- ganui. Looking forward to seeing you out and about. Lynda Spicer
Page 6 August 2020 Veteran Notes About twenty people were present for the July Veteran Section meeting, in- cluding Wellsford/Warkworth members Doug Hamilton and Dennis Bonham and Ian Kell from North Shore. David Lane had requested that people bring along items of interest and many did that. Phil Henley drove the 1906 Cadillac over, a good feat considering the time of year and unpredictable weather,. Phil reported he has been road testing the 1913 Mitchell and attempted the HCCNZs Spring Tour, but had clutch issues, which have now been sorted. Russell Vincent has been making up a valve for his single cylinder Cadillac. Dennis Bonham told us about the 1915 Overland Model 81 he brought from Mike Courtney, which is the car owned and restored by the late Mr Matthyse in the Waikato. Ian Kell had brought a 1912 Model T Ford once owned by the late Mike Evans, but is having difficulty tracing owner- ship for registration purposes. Dennis Lowe has imported a new reverse gear train for the 1903 Curved Dash Oldsmobile, one gear is bronze and the others are made of Poly with twenty letters and numbers after it. The Oldsmobile was also used for filming work in Napier and Dennis also produced a Ford device used for reaming Model T king pin bushings. John Morrison is toying with an idea of creating a large storage unit for owners of vehicles who may wish to downsize their homes, but retain their vehicles. The premises wouldn’t be a museum, but might be available for like minded groups to view. Roy Sharman brought along part of a Graphic Magazine which detailed the 1901 Paris Berlin race and also copies of NZ Farmer which had several period advertisements for cars. Doug Hamilton has assembled an engine for his 1911 Cadillac. However, brake parts are proving elusive and freight costs on imported bits are very high. David Oliver produced what we thinks is a Model T Ford radiator bug collector or steam disperser. The most interesting object was brought in by Jim Boag, who said it had come off a car, but could be aircraft related. It was a quadrant with a lever and some knobs. The top of the quadrant was graduated 0-10 and one of the knobs was stamped R TAMPIEH. It puzzled us, but the following morning I ran to ‘Auntie Google’ and put in R TAMPIEH. Turns out it was an actuating control lever for a TAMHIEH valve used on rotary aircraft engines. This valve had some- thing to do with the mixture control of the primitive carburettors then in use. I brought along an Overland VIN plate for a 1914 Model 79 Overland. Thank you Roslyn for organising afternoon tea. John Stokes
August 2020 Page 7 Notes from your Secretary I have entry forms for the Maunga Moana for anyone interested. This year Ta- ranaki have moved the event to November, after having to cancel its usual timing of April. Wayne and Carrie Roberts will be organising a back road tour to get there as well, so a good weekends motoring is sure to be had. Later this month is our National AGM, so watch next month’s Bulletin for an up- date on what happened at this. From the Committee table: We are ensuring we have protocols in place to keep us COVID safe. Plans are well under way for both our PV Rally and the Hunua 100 Rally, where we look forward to your support at these events. The Committee has also agreed that the winner of any event is not expected to plot the next one. We need to have more people plotting these events. While Daffodil Day has been cancelled as our National Day this year, some Branches are still having an event to support the Cancer Society and we are welcome to attend Waitemata’s Daffodil Day. Watch your email for details. Tracey Winterbottom New Members A most sincere welcome is extended to the following new members. We hope to see you taking an active part in Club activities whenever possible. Should you or any member require any assistance or advice, please feel free to ask any Committee member. Page 8 August 2020 Commercial Notes Last month was the first time we had met since February and it felt quite strange at first. The turnout was rather low, but I guess the inclement weather would have made it easy for some to have stayed in the warmth of their homes. Much banter took place between Murray Firth and Michael Hilliar over their respective sojourns as bus drivers over bygone years. We learned from Murray that the re- cently completed strip down and repaint of his 1931 British Bedford has pleased him no end and that it only requires the new signwriting to finish the job, before he and Penny set off on another trip around the South Island in it, next new year. This time they plan on going right to the bottom. Michael gleaned for himself, a spot on “Seven Sharp” recently, when his Garden Railway was given a decent plug. Michael also has his own video clips, at Michael’s Garden Railway on You Tube. I received a pleasant surprise recently, when the wid- ow of a long-time friend called in to see us and handed me a 400 page book on a subject dear to my heart. The book, written by Bart Vanderveen, a Dutchman who has lived in the U.K. for decades is an absolute encyclopaedia of military vehicles from the early motorised years right up to 1990. My friend had only a passing interest in M V’s but collected any in- formation he could on the vehicles he owned, the Austrian Steyr-Puch Haflinger. He owned 5 of them. Powered by a 643c.c. flat twin horizontally opposed air cooled engine and weighing just 1300Ib, 500 pound lighter than my Mighty Mite. Some of you who grew up in Auckland in the 50’s and early 60’s may well remember the Auckland City Council, using them as water carts, sluicing down the City’s footpaths in the wee small hours. August 2020 Page 9 Library Notes Following recent months of disruption under the Covid-19 lockdown, it is with considerable relief that the Library has returned to normal operation. We had our first weekly session on the second to last Thursday morning of July and it was great to have some members in the Library, checking the books and enjoying the fellowship with a chat and a cup of tea or coffee. Thanks to the generosity of members, donations of books and historic material have re-commenced and in that regard we are especially grateful for a dona- tion by Simon Ganley of a complete set of ‘On Four Wheels’, a monthly publi- cation of some years back out of the UK. We already had some of the issues, but this complete set has been immaculately bound, is in top condition and is a very welcome addition to our shelves. The Library archives are mostly involved with historic material covering cars, bikes and trucks of course. However, all types of motorised wheeled transport are included and in that regard our collection of material on the history of bus- es, especially in New Zealand, is a valued section in itself. It is therefore very pleasing to report that we have had a number of recent additions to our col- lection of books on buses, donated by Gary Running. These smaller, yet information filled books are issues of a series we already had some of, but this latest addition covers the following subjects: Half-cab buses, Bedford Twin-steers, and also catalogues of NZ and Auckland bus fleets. If the history of buses is what turns you on, then come to the Library and check out these latest additions to our collection. Back on the car side, our long time friend Ian Goldingham has provided the Library with a photo-copied version of ‘Lairds Automotive Directory’ of 1927. (price 2/6!). Back in the day, this Automobile Directory and Buyer’s Guide was distributed as a handy pocket Reference book for those interested in Motor Vehicles and contained (quote): ‘condensed essential data necessary to the Trade, the Owner, intending Purchaser and others.’ To that end it listed Prices, Specifications, Second-Hand Values, Agents, etc. for Cars, Trucks, and Cycles. We don’t recall ever having come across this historic gem before, but leafing through it provides a wonderful snapshot of motor traders in New Zealand and Auckland in particular, in the mid 1920’s. It listed what brands they were selling and for how much, as well as services provided and so on. It is now on our shelves, so come and see it. Now that the Library is back on a stable operating footing, members are very welcome to visit on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. Morning tea provided. We look forward to seeing you. Page 10 August 2020 Motorcycle Notes Overnight there was some very heavy rain in Coromandel and up North but it was dry when we arrived at the Clubrooms for our July Motorcycle meeting. Our guest speaker David Morley and his friend Don Walker arrived and unloaded David's outstanding and great looking McIntosh Suzuki race motorcycle. They setup the motorcycle and David laid out, on the table, two partly machined wheel hubs, the original Brembo brake rotors and his newly made brake rotors which are half the weight of the Brembo ones. In the car park were 12 motorcy- cles: Ducati's, Triumph's, BSA's, Velocette, Harley, Norton and Matchless. Jack Clark arrived on his recently restored Matchless G12, a great looking and sound- ing motorcycle. 64 members were present including visitors, Merv Bullard's son Callum who races an older BSA, Mark Kinnon Monk who has a Norton 16H and Mark Ensor who has lots of motorcycles. Martin reported on the ‘Getting Back Together 4 th July Dinner’ at the Clubrooms and our Club Captain Lynda doing all the cooking and table decorations, or- ganised a game and the fancy dress competition with 70 in attendance, where the dinner went very well and was a lot of fun. Coming Up: The August Motorcycle meeting will be run by Jack Clark and Don Green as Lynda and I will be away in Wanganui for the National AGM. Taranaki's Rubber Duckie Motorcycle Rally is on September 19 th. If you want an entry form, contact me. General Business: Peter Alderdice reminded members that the 2021 National Motorcycle Rally en- try forms are now out and there is a large group riding to the event. Peter has booked all the accommodation, so if you want to join the group and have a great time away riding your motorcycle in good company, give Peter a call on 021 743 906. Graeme Crawley spoke about November's 40th Auckland Branch Annual Motor- cycle Rally. Guest Speaker—David Morley David told us about his early years as a 19 year old when he started motorcycle racing in the UK. His first bike was a James and then he moved up to a BSA Gold Star. He managed to get a sponsor Syd Lawton to supply motorcycles for rac- ing. David was racing against the up and coming multi world champion Mike Hailwood, Phil Read and John Surtees. In 1965 David emigrated here. David joined the Vintage Car Club and still has an E type Jaguar. David owns a preci- sion engineering company on the North Shore, where he and his son's turn out works of art. Around 1990 David joined the Classic Motorcycle Racing Register and started racing again. He bought the ex Roger Freeth championship win- ning McIntosh Suzuki and raced this motorcycle to many wins here and in Aus- tralia. He then sold this motorcycle back to the man who built the motorcycle back in the 1980's. David was now racing a 500 McIntosh Manx Norton. He then bought a very exotic and expensive Ducati Superleggera that is based on their V4 GP racers. David also bought the ex Norris Farrow McIntosh Suzuki race mo- torcycle that was a sister motorcycle to the Freeth motorcycle. David has rebuilt this bike back to “as new” condition. The workmanship from David is truly out-

Be- fore the Covid-19 lockdown David took part in the Land Speed New Zealand Association's Speed Event at Goudies Road Reporoa. He rode his Ducati and clocked up speeds around 200mph. David answered many question from members. Martin thanked David for coming and bringing his great motorcycle. Page 12 August 2020 Mid Week Tourers Who said they were no more? Between Jack Nazer and Kelvin Hawke and newcomer to the team Mike Loosemore, it looks like the rest of this year is already full. August, October and December will all be Westgate starts, 10:30 a.m. departure, on the third Wednes- day. (December may be earlier to avoid the Christmas rush.) Mike, already a busy man with other vintage commitments, has never-the-less volunteered to oversee the Drury end. Now, let’s see that we all support them as they deserve. Jack Nazer (09) 378 4580 Kelvin Hawke (09) 836 4795 Mike Loosemore 021 027 08848 And the rest Coming Events: Wednesday 19 August—This will be the first Mid Week run since our compulsory lockdown and I (Jack) have plotted a great run in the west with a great destina- tion. To make it a great run we need participation. The July Club Run had in excess of 40 vehicles and was absolutely great. I appeal to you all, please come and make this Mid Week run just as great. Our host will be Angus Fogg and his partner Tracy reside on a lovely 5 acre block in Riverhead, looking back over the city, where he has a sizable barn that ac- commodates his workshop and playroom. Angus is a well known racer who was in the team of Kiwis invited to the last Bathurst to run in the ‘Touring Car Masters’ races. In all of his races he was first to the chequered flag, so you can imagine what some of his toys are. He is also a great host. Our start at Old Westgate Shopping Centre where there is a number of good coffee shops to enjoy before our departure at 10:30 a.m. BYO everything. We set off to the West Coast at Muriwai via Massey, Waitakere and Taupaki before turning back toward our destination via Waimauku and Old North Road. The weather will be of no concern as the barn is rather large. Jack Nazer Wednesday 21 October—Starts from Westgate Shopping Centre 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. departure. The Mid-Week Team (New blood always welcome)
August 2020 Page 13 Vintage Notes Norm and Pat Dewhurst sent their apologies, as did Chris Wood for the July meeting. Dudley Kitson donated a lot of English motoring magazines that he had sub- scribed to for a number of years, which were put on the table and at the end of the meeting they had all gone home with someone. Many may come back next month to go around again. New club member, Bill Quinn joined our group, bringing along his 1924 Oakland, which was displayed in the yard. This car, although fairly complete when ac- quired, was rather tired. It is now in showroom condition, (someone even looked underneath). Well done Bill! Neil Beileski brought along a selection of mystery tools for us to guess their pur- pose and Jim Boag had a very shiny trailer electrical connection device from the 1960’s. Clive Geary, with his extensive knowledge of early Morris’s, had been asked by MOTAT, to give some advice on the restoration of a Bullnose Morris. He was taken to a collection of cars that is so secret that no-one ever gets to see them. Also restoring a Bullnose is Richard Green, who wrote the arti- cle on building a magneto timing buzzer which was circulated by email during lockdown. He now has a rolling chassis and has factory drawings for construct- ing a body. After a tea/coffee break, Neville Holland demonstrated the mysteries of the split rim wheel. Page 16 August 2020 1929 Packard 640 Roadster The firm of Anderson and Hanson were Napier Agents for both Packard cars and trucks in the Hawkes Bay area. Our Packard “Runabout” arrived at the Port of Napier, 1st December 1928 and sold to Mr A T Fox of Geddie Street, Taradale, who traded an earlier Packard Roadster at 285 pound, bringing the final cost of the new Packard to 1285.00 pound. The car was later sold to wealthy upmarket apparel and good quality home requirements, John Court of Queen Street, Auckland, no doubt at somewhat reduced price, as even a man of wealth likes a bargain. Why wait six months to indent what’s desired, when the equivalent in near new condition is available at a somewhat reduced sum? Undertakers with means requiring a chassis of one of our upmarket automobiles will often purchase a used quality car to re-body as a hearse. My Packard suf- fered this indignity and after much research I have yet to learn of the funeral director. The firm of Cavanagh and Co. of Anzac Avenue, Auckland, coach builders and spring makers scrapped the original runabout body, and creating a new body to the owner’s instructions, vacated the premises to “beat the broad highway” as a Packard hearse. Next owners were two varsity students who’s names evade me and with very shallow pockets, were unable to quell the thirst of that 384 cubic inch power plant, so Packard must go. Next to own the car was Norm Parkinson, long time Packard enthusiast of Auck- land. The asking price was 200.00 pound, the purchase price was 80.00 pound, the students were strapped for cash. I had always yearned for a Packard, a prestige model, pre 1930. One was ad- vertised in the Saturday NZ Herald. Les Parkinson, Norm’s son, was visiting and I suggested we go see this eight cylin- der car. We were half way there when Les surprised me suggesting we go see Dad’s Packard, saying “It’s a big eight with six wire wheels.” Norm had other Packard’s, but I wasn’t aware of this one. We changed course and headed for Rotorua, where Norm now lived, he wasn’t on the phone. The asking price was $2500.00, we settled at $2000.00, that was 1970. Some years later the 1986 International Rally to be held in Christchurch, was fast approaching and we planned to enter the Packard. Upon removing the hearse body, I discovered the car had worn a roadster body, the wind screen post sup- ports were still under the cowl, the narrow roadster instrument panel was still in place, the rear guard type were for 1927 – 1929 Packard’s only, so a Packard Runabout it was to be, back to original. I needed help! Dear friend Alan Orr of Tirau had purchased many years before a “Standard Eight Packard Runabout,” smaller motor and bonnet, but wearing the same body as the big eight. The car had been “stripped for restoration.” I borrowed the body panels (no wood work left) purchased a heavy sheet of 8 foot x 4 foot plywood and tack welded the body panels together to obtain ac- curate measurements. Master Craftsman, John Curtis from down Waikato way, created the wooden body frame, Alan Collins, a Panel man of some repute, clothed the wood work

Engine re- condition, upholstery, brakes, all new bearings, windscreen etc. and untold hours to present the Packard in it’s original form. We were to depart Auckland, Wednesday for the Friday morning 10:00 a.m. Ferry, still much to be done. To bed, early hours every morning. We departed Auckland 8:20 p.m., Thursday evening, the restored Packard had never been out of the shed. Reached Wellington 4:00 p.m. next day Friday, too late for our booking, the Ferry crew were on strike, there were queues of cars everywhere, we were prepared to sleep in the car and we had to rebook. Surprisingly we were called up for the 7:00 p.m. sailing, “We are sailing!” We arrived in Picton around 11:00 p.m. and arrived in our digs in Kaikoura, some- where around 2:00 a.m., pooped! Page 18 August 2020 4th July Independence Day—Kiwi Style When the country went down to level one, Club Captain Lynda had the idea of our Branch having a ‘getting back to normal’ celebratory dinner and so she chose the 4th July as Independence Day - Kiwi style. Lynda picked the menu which was chicken casserole, pulled roast beef, Manu- ka honey ham, meatballs in a rich tomato and herb sauce, accompanied with roast potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower with homemade cheese sauce, peas and sweet corn, carrots, green salad, Israeli couscous with veggies, rice, Greek salad, macaroni cheese with diced ham. For dessert there was apple crumble, mixed fruit salad, hot and cold custard, variety of ice creams and carrot cake. Diane Poole very kindly brought along a yummy apple and blackberry crumble. Friday the 3rd July Lynda and I went up to the clubrooms and unloaded our car which was full to the gunnels with cooking implements, table cloths, decorations and flashing lights. Lynda then spent a number of hours shopping for the food— she spent most of Friday evening prepping the food and cooked overnight a couple of dishes. The enormous carrot cake was also made and baked on the Friday so that it had time to firm up for cutting and icing the next day. Saturday, we arrived at the clubrooms at 3:00pm, the Veteran section were half way through their monthly meeting and Debbie & Bob Ballantyne were waiting to give a hand with setting out tables. We quietly put all the tables and chairs in position, set the tables with black table cloths, white runners, small buckets of flowers and candles in between the buckets of flowers, finishing off with sprinkles of silver, together with black and white serviettes. Elegant and simple, as Lynda said. By the time this was completed the Veteran meeting had finished and Lynda went up into the kitchen to start preparing the other foods required for the evening very ably assisted by Debbie. There was not a moment of time to relax until they served the dinner at 7:00pm. It was mind boggling how she brought it all together in a small domestic kitchen, although we did take a double sized deep fryer for sautéing the potatoes and thank goodness the kitchen in the Clubrooms had the warming cabinet and a small bottom oven underneath the main oven which baked brilliantly. The tricky bit, she told me, was only 4 hobs, trying to get everything that needed cooking on the hobs done and all brought together. Martin greeted the 70 members before dinner was served and advised people that between mains and dessert there would be some fun time. We had a fashion parade of those that had dressed Independence Day and we had a clapometer from the floor as to
August 2020 Page 19 4th July Independence Day—Kiwi Style who was their favourite. John Morrison dressed as Uncle Sam, with a Cat in the Hat head-dress and he looked wonderful. We had lots of red white and blue hats, glasses, great tri colour beards, and one dressed in a black and white Uncle Sam styled coat complete with shorts and gun boots. John Morrison won a bottle of wine for best dressed as voted from the floor. (see photo page 16) Next was a “Designer” Competition. Each group of two tables (12 people) were given a J-Cloth, 2 coloured straws, 2 coloured balloons, 2 chenille twisty, 2 lots of crepe paper in strips and last but not least, the thing that disappeared off the shelves before lockdown and into Level 4, a roll of toilet tissue. Their brief was to design, in whatever form they liked, what Covid-19 meant to them and to let their imaginations run riot. There were staplers and rolls of cellotape for their use. We allowed them 20 minutes for their creation, which gave Lynda time to get the mains table cleared, custard made, crumbles from the oven removed and all the desserts laid out on the table. There was a great frenzy of activity in assembling the creations. Well, what a competition, some static, some beer bottles being used and dressed. Some rude ones, some political ones, some playful ones and one very excellent mod- el. Lynda Walker and her team made Lynda’s daughter Carlie their model. A white nurse’s uniform was made from toilet tissue, accompanied by a mask, and she was surrounded by Covid-19 nasties in the form of balloons with straws stuck to represent the virus – she looked wonderful. She won 1 st Place. For 2nd place the audience clapometer was used again and this was won by Gary and Roseanne Bright's grandson. Everyone had fun. After dessert being consumed Martin asked that people help in the tidying up, including washing and drying up. It was wonderful how many ladies went up to the kitchen to help, while Lynda went downstairs to help there and a couple of the guys helped Martin take down the lights and put the tables back from upstairs, take down the trestles. Thank you everyone who helped. Special thanks to Debbie Ballantyne who helped tirelessly in the kitchen during the afternoon and evening. Thanks to John and Diane Poole who stayed on to help pack the car which was absolutely packed full. Also, thanks to John Stokes who stayed on until 7:00pm helping Martin in the bar. It was a great way to get the Branch “going again” meeting up with old friends, making some new ones and enjoying each other's company. We have had a lot of emails and telephone calls thanking us for putting on a great evening of good food, good company and good fun and asking “When's the next one?”. Martin & Lynda Spicer
