Nottingham Law School Incoming Students’ Guide to our Erasmus Exchange and Summer School Programme 2018/19
Welcome to Nottingham Law School We look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham as an exchange student. The Law School is situated in the heart of Nottingham, close to everything an exchange student wants and needs. There is plenty of accommodation to choose from within a 5 to 20 minute walk of the Law School. The city offers a variety of bars, restaurants and nightclubs alongside a vibrant cultural life with numerous theatres, museums and art galleries, meaning there really is something for everyone. During your free time you should visit the Students' Union, who organise a variety of weekly events and our vast number of student societies that will make sure you get the most out of your exchange. The Law School wants you to have a great student experience while you are with us, both academically and socially. You can choose to study modules offered across the LLB (Hons) Law programme so that you can explore new areas of law or choose areas that complement your legal studies to date. Incoming Student’s Guide How to apply for Nottingham Law School’s exchange programme Student exchange admissions process 1. You must be nominated by your home university. We cannot process your application if you have not been nominated. 2. Nomination deadlines: • Year-long and semester one exchange – 30 April • Semester two exchange – 1 October 3. Following your nomination, you will be sent an application form. This should be returned to us by: • Year-long exchange and semester one exchange – 30 May • Semester two exchange – 1 November 4. Once we have received and processed your application form, we will send you an offer letter and information regarding accommodation and enrolment. The structure of the academic year The academic year runs from September to June and is divided into three terms or two semesters, depending on your choice of study: Year-long study Exchange • Welcome Week – Friday 21 September to Sunday 30 September 2018 • Term One – Monday 1 October to Friday 14 December 2018 • Term Two – Monday 14 January to Friday 5 April 2019 • Term Three – Wednesday 24 April to Friday 7 June 2019 Semester 1 • Welcome Week – Friday 21 September to Sunday 30 September 2018 • Teaching and Assessment Period – Monday 1 October 2018 to Friday 1 February 2019 Semester 2 • Induction Period – Week commencing 4 February 2019. Timetable of events to be confirmed • Teaching and Assessment Period – Monday 11 February to Friday 7 June 2019 Module choices 2018/19 The following list of modules are anticipated to be offered to Erasmus+ and exchange students during the academic year 2018/19. However, Nottingham Law School reserves the right to change the modules offered at any time. In the event of a module being withdrawn, students will be notified and be given the opportunity to make an alternative selection. All modules are worth 20 NTU credit points (10 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS)), with the exception of Law of Contract and Problem Solving and Criminal Law with Mooting which are both 40 NTU credit points. The normal student credit load is 120 NTU credit points per year, 60 NTU credit points per semester. Subject to timetables, we allow you to choose any of our law modules. However, please remember that if you select a Level 1 module, you will be taught alongside first-year undergraduate students. There is the opportunity to study business modules on the semester two exchange option, but these modules will need to be taken as a block of three. Final-year modules (Level 3) As this may be your first time studying an academic subject at degree level in a foreign language please think very carefully before choosing any Level 3 modules. We recommend that you do not take more than two of these modules unless your home university have instructed you to do so. Please note, Level 3 modules are subject to change. 4
