T H E LO C AT I O N IH Ellesmere Young Learner Centre is held in Ellesmere College in Shropshire countryside, just an hour away from Manchester and Liverpool and only a few miles from the Welsh border. We are the only school at Ellesmere College during the summer, so our students have exclusive access. Learning outcomes Your child will: Improve their spoken English Increase their vocabulary Make new friends from around the world Be prepared for studying in an English-speaking environment Course content Students follow a daily programme of 15 hours of English language lessons in the morning, while afternoons are spent learning outside of the classroom through exciting activities with new friends. During the afternoon, students can choose from a number of sports and arts activities, with something for everyone. Sports can include tennis, football, basketball and swimming. Arts activities can include t-shirt painting, sketching, and performance arts. Study trips are also a big part of the course, with one full-day and one half-day trip to places of interest in the UK included every week. Example trips include: a full-day trip to Legoland and the Sea Life Centre and a walking tour and ferry ride in Liverpool. Half-day trips include Chester Zoo and Llangollen Railway. It is an intensive course across English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. It is not all hard work though – English Plus classes are lively, interactive and fun. Students are encouraged to speak English at all times, and benefit from using the language with others their own age in different social situations. Students will have 15 hours of general English lessons with the rest of the school then six additional hours focused on improving their spoken English with an exam at the end of their course. Students also participate in sports, arts and crafts, and other activities. Aimed at practising English through fun and teamwork, the English Plus programme proves that it is possible to work hard and still have fun! Course content Your child will enjoy English lessons in the morning and activities conducted in English in the afternoon. Students will have 15 hours of English lessons a week, taught by qualified teachers with extensive young learner experience. On their first day, students will have a placement test to assess their English level, they will then be placed into classes based on their level. Each class has a maximum of 15 students. During their lessons students will learn and practise their English, while having fun, and developing other important life skills such as team-work and confidence. Students follow our weekly themes which allow them to improve their English while learning about other subjects. All senior staff have student welfare training every year, in addition to professional development.
