Letter from the Board of Governors
VISION
The Independent Bonn International School (IBIS) has pioneered a model for excel-
lent preschool and primary education and our children are being given an exceptional
educational foundation upon which to build their future schooling. IBIS is a non-profit
organisation which aims to accompany its pupils on their way to becoming responsible,
conscientious and highly motivated global citizens. In the course of the past decades
more than 45 pupils every year have successfully “graduated” from IBIS and moved on
to the best German and international secondary schools.
In recent years the expansion of corporations and NGOs in Bonn has created an urgent
need for additional international schooling options. Therefore, in consultation with its
current parent body and the community at large, the IBIS Board of Governors has
decided to extend IBIS’ educational programme to include a Secondary School.
With the implementation of the Cambridge Secondary and IB Diploma Programme
curricula, IBIS aims to provide a flexible and stimulating curriculum, which will be
enriched by the provision of the most relevant and up-to-date resources and training
opportunities. Thus, the aim is to ensure that all IBIS pupils will be able to maximize
their individual potential in all areas of their development. We want to inspire them to
live locally and think globally.

With the extension of our current educational offer, we aim to guarantee an educational
infrastructure with qualified, specialised teachers for up to an additional 250 pupils.

Without ceasing to look to their own lands with love and pride, they will become in mind citizens of the world, schooled and ready to complete and consolidate the work of generations before them, bringing into being a thriving global community.” The above statement, adapted from a quote by Jean Monnet, beautifully encapsulates our view of international education. Vision Our vision is to produce well-educated children who have achieved their individual potential in all areas of their development. Mission Statement Our purpose is to facilitate an education which develops the whole child - academical- ly, socially, morally, emotionally and physically, in an atmosphere of honesty, tolerance and respect for others and themselves. For more than fifty years IBIS has been providing high quality education for its interna- tional and local families. Staff come from a multi-cultural background and are highly experienced and qualified. The school’s curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum with considera- tion for our global clientele. IBIS is inspected on a regular basis by the much respected Independent Schools’ Inspectorate. In the latest inspection the school received “excellent” in all seven categories, which is the highest possible award. It is a town where you can live, learn and work in comfort. It is a hub for organisations and firms from all over the world. That’s why we are so happy to have IBIS here in Bonn. The school constitutes an important part of the international community and plays a major role in making Bonn -and particularly Bad Godesberg - the international and popular town that it is today. Initially the British Embassy school, IBIS has now been in existence for 53 years and is the longest established international school in the area. During this time IBIS has proven itself to be an outstanding school, offering an excellent education and promotes important values such as honesty, tolerance and respect for the variety of cultures. It prepares pupils for a global world. Recognised by the German authorities as an equivalent to a German primary school, IBIS offers its pupils up to date technology as well as a broad spectrum of sport and extra-curricular activities. More than 200 children from countries across the world benefit from individual at- tention in small classes. The school also offers a programme for three to five year old children so they also have a fantastic educational opportunity and the added benefit of the English language. On the one hand IBIS, like other schools, provides solid education. On the other hand, IBIS makes a valuable contribution in supporting the international roles of Bad Godesberg and Bonn. IBIS C O M P L E T E S C H O O L I N G F O R Y O U R C H I L D 7 IBIS COMPLETE SCHOOLING FOR YOUR CHILD The Independent Bonn International School (IBIS) has been offering an outstanding education for children from both the local and international communities in and around Bonn for over 50 years. We believe it is important to instil an understanding and respect for national and cultural differences whilst retaining pride in one’s national heritage. The school actively encourages acceptance of different cultures, creeds and customs and promotes an ideal of international citizenship. Within the school, we welcome parents and families to share with us some of their home countries’ traditions and also encourage cross-cultural links with our local community. Each child is considered as an individual with individual needs and individual potential. Teachers endeavour to fulfil these needs and potential by encouraging a positive self- image in each pupil. We provide a supportive and secure atmosphere where care of the individual is of the utmost importance. Many parents have remarked that they consider this to be one of IBIS’ greatest strengths. The support and involvement of parents is seen as an important part of the learning process. We believe that the education of your child must be a partnership with you in order to be fully successful. This partnership grows if there is regular communication, contact and discussion between the students’ home and school.
IBIS C O M P L E T E S C H O O L I N G F O R Y O U R C H I L D 9 IBIS Secondary School IDEA The increasing demand from parents for a Secondary School with the same high quality standards as IBIS’ existing Primary School encouraged the Board of Governors to become active in exploring this possibility. A questionnaire provided to all parents indi- cated that 95 % of IBIS parents were in favour of the creation of a Secondary School. Thus, a task force was introduced, with dedicated work-streams, to ensure that the feasibility and actualisation of the project would follow a clear plan.
10 IBIS C O M P L E T E S C H O O L I N G F O R Y O U R C H I L D IBIS Secondary School OPPORTUNITY An audit was conducted in February 2016 by an external consultant, Matthew Raggett – Head Teacher of Leipzig International School, to assess the strengths of the Primary School and determine which would be the best globally accepted curriculum for IBIS’ Secondary School. We learned that the Cambridge Secondary 1 (years 7 to 9), Cam- bridge Secondary 2 (IGCSE – years 10 and 11) and the IB Diploma Programme (years 12 and 13) curricula would be the best options for IBIS’ Secondary School. Our aim is: To provide a natural progression into secondary education for IBIS Primary School families. To provide an academically rigorous and internationally recognised curriculum for our future secondary students. To give those with the freedom to choose a better alternative to what is currently on offer in Bonn at state and private schools.

IBIS ist eine gemeinnützige Organisation, die ihre Schüler auf dem Weg zu verantwortungsbewussten und höchst motivierten Weltbürgern begleiten möchte. In den letzten Jahrzehnten absolvierten jährlich mehr als 45 Schülerinnen und Schüler erfolgreich unsere Schule und wechselten zu den renommiertesten Gymnasien und internationalen Schulen über. Vision Unsere Vision ist es, die Kinder so zu unterrichten, dass sie ihr persönliches Potential durch individuelle Förderung vollständig entfalten können und wir dadurch akade- misch exzellent ausgebildete Kinder in die Welt entlassen. Mission Statement Unsere Aufgabe ist es, eine Ausbildung zu bieten, die das Kind ganzheitlich entwickelt – akademisch, sozial, moralisch, emotional und physisch, in einer Atmosphäre, in der Ehrlichkeit, Toleranz und Respekt sich selbst sowie den anderen gegenüber selbstver- ständlich sind. Eine Stadt in der es sich gut leben, lernen und arbeiten lässt.Organisationen und Firmen aus aller Welt haben hier ihren Sitz. Deshalb sind wir glücklich darüber, die IBIS hier vor Ort zu haben. Sie ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der internationalen Gemeinschaft und hat viel dazu beigetragen, Bonn - und ganz besonders Bad Godes- berg - zu der internationalen und lebenswerten Stadt zu machen, die sie heute ist. Einst hervorgegangen aus der Schule der Britischen Botschaft, gibt es sie nunmehr seit bereits 52 Jahren. Damit ist sie die älteste internationale Schule in Bonn.Die IBIS hat sich in dieser Zeit hervorragend bewährt: als staatlich anerkannte Ersatzschule der Primarstufe bietet sie neben einer hervorragenden Ausbildung die Vermittlung von Werten wie Ehrlichkeit, Toleranz und Respekt vor der kulturellen Vielfalt und bereitet die Schülerinnen und Schüler auf ein Leben in einer globalisierten Welt vor. Zugleich ist sie im deutschen Bildungssystem anerkannt und bietet ihren Schülerinnen und Schülern einen hohen technischen Standard sowie ein abwechslungsreiches Sport- und Freizeitprogramm. Mehr als 200 Kinder aus den unterschiedlichsten Ländern lernen hier ganz individuell in kleinen Klassen. Auch ein Kindergarten gehört zum Angebot. So haben schon die Kleinsten eine ausgezeichnete Bildungschance, insbesondere auch in englischer Sprache. Auf der einen Seite ist die IBIS, ebenso wie andere Schulen, ein Dienstleister im Bereich der Bildung. Auf der anderen Seite leistet sie als Institution mit der Stärkung der internationalen Rolle von Bad Godesberg und ganz Bonn einen wertvollen Beitrag. IBIS C O M P L E T E S C H O O L I N G F O R Y O U R C H I L D 23 IBIS EINE SCHULE FÜR UNSERE KINDER Seit über 50 Jahren ermöglicht die „Independent Bonn International School (IBIS)“ Kindern der internationalen als auch lokalen Gemeinschaften in Bonn und Umgebung eine erstklassige akademische Ausbildung. Die Kombination aus unserem langjährig erfahrenem Lehrpersonal und einem erprobten und herausragend qualifizierten Pro- gramm bietet unseren Kindern ein solides Fundament für ihre Schulbildung während und nach ihrer Zeit bei IBIS. Dazu wird ihnen ein breites Spektrum an Bildung ermög- licht, die für ihre gesamte schulische und soziale Entwicklung wichtig ist. IBIS C O M P L E T E S C H O O L I N G F O R Y O U R C H I L D 25 IBIS Secondary School IDEE Die steigende Nachfrage seitens der Elternschaft nach einer weiterführenden Schule mit den gleichen hohen Qualitätsstandards führte das „IBIS Board of Governors“ zu dem Entschluss, eine Sekundarstufe zu etablieren. Eine Befragung der IBIS Eltern zur Erweiterung ergab überdies eine Zustimmungsrate von 95 %. Aus diesem Grund wurde ein Projektteam zusammengestellt, das es ermöglichen soll, die bestmöglichen Ressourcen und Potenziale aller Board Mitglieder und weiterer engagierten Eltern für die Realisierung dieser Idee zu nutzen.

BUSINESS CASE I
Basierend auf den folgenden Annahmen berechnet sich die Anzahl der Schüler
für verschiedene Szenarien wie folgt:
1. SchüIer treten der IBIS Secondary School jedes Schuljahr bei (Anzahl variiert);
2. Über 50 % der Schülerinnen und Schüler der Grundschule verlängern ab Klasse 5
bis Klasse 10;
3. IB wird neben IBIS Secondary School neue Schüler anziehen (im ersten Jahr);
4. Optimale Anzahl (IBIS Secondary School + IB): 200 Schülerinnen und Schüler.
