WEDDINGS 2 EVERGREEN ELEGANCE A C L A S S I C C E L E B R AT I O N I N B L A C K & W H I T E INTO THE GARDEN When we first met Claire, her highest priority was to have an outdoor wedding and she had set her sights on the lovely Italian- style gardens at the Evergreen Museum & Library in Baltimore. This venue proved to be the ideal setting to showcase her timeless style and celebrate all things summer in each of the thoughtful details her guests enjoyed throughout the weekend. Flags on top “ It is truly special to walk into your reception and see that your dreams of the tent, a touch of "hydrangea blue" in the florals, black and have become a reality. “ white accents, and a vintage car, were on this couple’s wish list. All captured beautifully by photographers Michael & Carina, this — PA U L H O M S H E R , G R O O M — tented affair was filled with love and laughter from start to finish. Nodding to the couple’s resident state of Texas and the bride’s love of all things equestrian, Claire chose an elegant gown by designer Austin Scarlett, of Project Runway, with a dramatic horse hair skirt. Paul, a U.S. Air Force Captain and B-1 pilot, looked dapper in his official dress uniform. Described by the bride and her mother as a "simple, elegant, and timeless celebration," these thoughtful touches (and a few margaritas) proved to have everyone on the dance floor! INTERIORS 4 THIS MUST BE THE PLACE F O R M F O L L O W S F U N C T I O N I N O U R C R E AT I V E S T U D I O #SBHQRENO IN WOODBERRY The studio, affectionately known as SBHQ, sits in a historic building alongside I-83 which was originally built as a paper mill in 1877. Since that time, it has also been both an ice cream cone factory and a commercial envelope manufacturer. Five years ago, it became home to the SB Team. Starting off with a few small desks and a fresh coat of paint (Farrow & Ball’s ‘Pink Ground’), SBHQ opened its doors! Now home to a few more work stations, several more coats of paint, an expansion, and not one, but two puppies, 1750 Union Avenue, Suite A is "the place to be". Unsurprisingly, creating an inspiring workspace for the team, as well as a separate space to host clients, was an important part of the brand’s continued growth. The aim of this eclectic space is to inspire creativity as well as showcase artwork that provokes and motivates their creative team. The renovation began with a plan to install larger windows and new light fixtures. Moving a few walls to create a more spacious design library and additional office space inevitably led to a full office renovation. An open-air workspace allows for a collaborative environment which made differentiating between the client presentation space and the internal workspace even more important. Eventually, a client lounge, wet bar, and full bathroom rehab were included with the conference room redesign to further create a comfortable and inviting space for client presentations. The studio hosts various types of clients from brides and their families to corporate clients, home owners, and to business owners alike. The lounge was intentionally designed with feminine and masculine elements to appeal to the studio’s various visitors. One of the rooms’ highlights is a breathtaking photograph by Runa + Holly that hangs above the settee in the lounge. The delicate nature of the flowers contrasts highly with the deep shadows of the background, creating a dark, yet inviting composition. During the construction, an unplanned, but fortuitous visit by award-winning artist Kelly Walker of Baltimore Artstar led to a design collaboration on the conference room wall. A neutral palette combined with the ethereal mountain- scape draws ones eye up towards the 17’ vaulted ceiling. It is in this space that the team begins their design process and the large-scale mural provides the perfect backdrop for creating custom experiences. Walker and her design army were able to bring the walls to life fully achieving the ‘anything is possible’ vibe the SB Team conceptualized. Each of the spaces in the studio is unique, yet all work in tandem, allowing the team to continue to design well and thrive. M E E T A R T I S T S R U N A + H O L LY Based in beautiful Gisborne, New Zealand, Runa Kuru, originally from Iceland, and Holly Tong a NZ native, are the two women behind the self-titled brand. Their individual focuses of photography and floral styling respectively, inspired their combined interest in interior design. With the desire to have fanciful pieces on their own walls, this collaboration between friends bloomed naturally. Their first collection of large-scale prints was launched in 2017 with great success. Since that time they have put their former individual careers as a portrait photographer and florist on hold as they work together on this inspiring collaboration. Their second collection was released earlier this year and their work has been admired far and wide. Their image "Volucris" was selected as one of the 25 exhibited photographs in the 2018 international art awards, Arte Lagune Prize, in Venice, Italy. They are passionate about quality pieces that remain classic and valued for many years to come. Their artworks are printed in very limited editions of just ten or twenty prints in each size with a total of four sizes available. Each piece is printed with archival inks on German- made ‘Hahnemühle’ 308gsm cotton rag paper. On April 28, 2018 models took to the Harbor East runway for a full day of fun, fashion, and YES, even an engagement! With just a slight breeze and an A-list model team, our male and female brand ambassadors rocked an elevated runway showcasing the hottest trends of the season, while backstage our production team was preparing for what proved to be a crowd-pleasing proposal. Our groom, Aron Huie, said, "The reasoning behind proposing at the FashionEASTa 2018 Fashion Show had everything to do with our own personal love story. We met at the same type of runway show last year (Aisle Style 2017) and the team who produced the show also made our happy meeting a possibility. Stephanie Bradshaw and the wonderful group at Baltimore Bride are responsible for bringing us together, and we are so excited we were able to share our engagement with the whole city of Baltimore in the same place we met. Our wedding is scheduled for next spring and naturally the SB Team is helping us plan the event!" When we asked Ashton, our now bride-to-be, how she felt about the surprise proposal, she responded, "In that moment, it was like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders. My heart was racing, my hands were shaking, and I couldn’t help but cry. My legs went weak and I fell to my knees. We leaned on each other under the weight of the emotion I remember thinking, ‘I hope he doesn’t try to put the ring on, my hands are shaking too hard.’ Then he said the words ‘Will you marry me?’ and in that moment the crowd disappeared and all I saw was Aaron." With record breaking crowds gathered on the streets of Baltimore’s fashion district, this event had a little something for everyone. A huge thank you to Baltimore Magazine and all involved in the continued success of this community-wide event.
