hool Chil ren s a T a a mi To enliven the atmosphere, students visited various informative academic booth during the day. At the science booth for example, among the activities that have been carried out are food experiments, tornado simulations and insects display. Students also used this opportunity to see plant cells using a microscope. These activities Interestingly, these booths were run by just not only enhance their understanding about the students themselves. This proves that they are independent and can convey information well to their friends. the topic but also allowed them to share their observations with their peers. At the language booth, students reinforce their language knowledge by playing phonic games. Meanwhile, students review numbers and solved various of math problems at the math booth. These informative booths allowed them to enjoy and learn at the same time.
Superhero cake cutting ceremony Children’s Day Bestarians celebrated Children’s Day on 20th November 2019 to honour all the little CEOs, junior doctors, young entrepreneurs etc. The theme for this year was Superhero. The event started off with the School assembly where the students showcased their performances, dressed up as superheroes. Then they presented their academic booth to teachers and peers from other levels. As part of the art activity, each student was given a gift where they were able to flaunt their artistic talent. All were excited for the cake cutting ceremony where they enjoyed the delicious ‘Superhero’ themed cake. A tele-match was organised to mark the end of the remarkable event. nior T Ta k TED talk sessions at SBIS work under the slogan “Ideas worth spreading” and are mainly about Technology, Entertainment and Design as the acronym goes. Year 1 students watch a video “Ripple” to learn about the core values in GRIT which are Gratitude, Resilience, Intentional Inconvenience and Teamwork Year 2 students learn about the importance to accept one another by watching the video “Haikal”
Little Author From “Author- Who, me?” to “Yes, I can be one too!” This was the outcome of “The Little Author programme” at SBIS. It was a platform where students got to showcase their writing skills. Students learnt directly from Ms. Lim Lay Koon, a renowned author who was invited to teach the students the ways and procedures of writing books of their own. As they were transported into the wonderous world of books, they also discovered the joy in writing their own story and not only and rejoiced being little illustrators. Reception 1 - IEYC As part of ‘Going Places!’ In IEYC, the little Bestarians had so much fun finding out what happens in an airport and on board. The entrance to the classrooms were converted into a ‘Departure Hall’ with a ‘luggage scanner’ and an ‘immigration officer’ on duty. With the help of pictures and pretend play, the learners were able to recall and recognize significant parts of the airport. Getting bags scanned at SBIS International Airport. Mandarin & HSK Results Learning Mandarin is crucial at SBIS for both Primary and Secondary students. HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi; translated as the Chinese Proficiency Test) used in China is therefore incorporated into our academic curriculum. Primary Mandarin Activities in Class The students engaged in hands-on activities. In the 2019/2020 academic year, our Year 8 and 9 students from the Advanced group sat for HSK level 4 and 5 (a formal HSK exam consists of six levels, whereby Level 6 is the highest). They passed the HSK exams with flying colours. Students attended the HSK Exam Level 4 at KongZi Institute, University of Malaya Year 8 students achieved HSK Level 4 in average 278, whereas the highest mark is 299/300. Students attended the HSK Exam Level 5 at KongZi Institute, University of Malaya Year 9 students achieved HSK Level 5 in average 252, whereas the highest mark is 288/300.

Apartheid in South Africa Students learnt about the harsh realities of the Apartheid in South Africa. To bring the events to life, students created a model depicting the various challenges the affected demographics went through. It is an award-winning teaching product that provides comprehensive leveled reading resources for students. They can choose to listen to a book before reading it and then take a corresponding eQuiz to test their comprehension skills. *A model in making to depict the harsh realities of the institutionalised racial segregation. Red Crescent Society Red Crescent Society at SBIS prepares the Bestarians to be first raiders through rigorous yet fun-filled training sessions. From getting to know the first aid box, fixing up of the stretcher, treating small wounds, nosebleeds and also cramps, the members are well equipped in handling them all. Involve me and I learn.” During the MCO, the primary kids got hands-on and built various toys while learning the basic science concepts behind them. As curious and as participative they can get during virtual lessons, the Bestarians used the everyday items that were found in the kitchen and managed to build a Balancing Bob, a pinhole camera, a hologram projector, and a parachute that successfully protects Mr. Humpty-Dumpty from a 6ft fall! Dry ice was first placed in a plastic container, and a metal container with the mango lassi drink in it was placed on top of the dry ice. Metal container, being a conductor, transferred the freezing cold effect to the mango lassi drink turning it into solid yummilicious ice cream. We create hands on experience at its best, where the students are able to apply what they learned in class in real life situations. on ientist cience lorer and A acti ities A lot of enjoyable activities had been organized for SBIS Young Scientist (Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3). It was time for them to have more time on hands on activities and the same time applying the knowledge they had. Experiments such as lava lamp, solubility testing, making a rock crayon, invisible ink, investigating shadows and many more keep our Young Scientist’ mind blown away by the magical of science. Despite that we are having MCO, the teachers also provide science activities that the students can do at home. Through Science Explorer slot, the students had a blast experimenting a lot of activities that reflect to their learning during MCO period.
Society Eco - School The Eco-school society at SBIS aims to raise awareness of protecting our environment and the importance of planting among young children. This academic year they focused on building a greenhouse in the school. It was heartwarming to see the teamwork displayed by these green-thumbed Bestarians as they grouped up and planted together. Maths Olympiad Contest (Primary) The Mathematics Olympiad was conducted among Primary students to foster an interest in Math. Like an “Olympiad” it aims to bring forth the Olympic spirit through friendly competitions and perseverance.The problems are specifically designed to explore various topics and strategies in Mathematics that is not normally offered in classroom settings. Young Master Chef (Year 1) Looking for a family-friendly pizza recipe? Children will love these toppings and genius shortcut recipes. Even the Little ones can help with making their own delicious pizza. A sure-fire way to get a fussy child to eat dinner/breakfast. Our Young Master Chefs used gardenia bread, sausages, cheddar cheese, capsicum and mixed vegetables for their pizza.
(Year 3) Chinese New Year celebrations are incomplete without this delicious dessert. Tang Yuan or glutinous rice ball is the typical food eaten on the 15th day of the new year. It is eaten during the Lantern Festival because they represent family reunion and unity, and their shape is the same as the full moon. St John Competition In January 2020 SBIS hosted a huge event on Malaysian St John Competition. This competition is to test the skills of the first raiders on short and long cases. It was a great exposure to all the Red Crescent members at SBIS as they experienced what a real life emergency situation will look like. Deepavali SBIS came together to organise a day of celebration to raise funds for M.A.D., by running fun art & craft activities like Diya painting and Kolam making. Students made use of their enterprising skills to sell products like lassi ice-cream, henna, accessories and food. SBIS also successfully organised a hair donation drive, raising funds of RM2500 for Locks Of Hope, an NGO that produces hair wigs for cancer patients. What a way to celebrate the Festival of Light! Christmas Gift Giving sales by Artist Hub Artist Hub members came together to bake and sell gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate on sticks to raise funds for Artist Hub activities during Christmas 2019. They even created gingerbread houses that buyers could assemble at home with their family and friends. Christmas Celebration Christmas is the time for sharing, forgiving, and blessing. Launch of SBIS The dawn of 22nd January 2020 marked a very important milestone as it was the official launching of SBIS. The fully equipped auditorium was open to the VIPs and parents for the first time on that day.
