Instead of guided tours we invite you to tour the school independently at your own pace. In this booklet you will find a map of the school and a list of the different departments to visit. Should you have any questions, there are many helpful students around the school wearing ‘May I help you?’ badges, ready to assist.
The Headteacher’s talk will be held at 6:45pm in the main hall and repeated again at 7:15pm and 7:45pm.
Welcome to St. Crispin’s School Open Evening Dear Visitors, It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our Open Evening. I am absolutely delighted that you are considering St. Crispin’s for your child. Open Evening is aptly named because that is in essence the ethos of the evening. We want to be entirely “open” in sharing with you what sort of school we are. In that spirit we have refreshed the way we have traditionally organised the evening. To prevent people gathering into unfamiliar groups and to avoid over crowding we invite you to tour the school independently and at your own pace. This information outlines the programme of events and provides a map of the specialist teaching areas. Additionally, students are strategically placed at all our entrances and exits to help you. Not only will all our students be able to point you in the right direction but they will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.
I will be speaking on three occasions during the evening: at 6:45pm, 7:15pm and finally at 7:45pm. During this time students, colleagues and myself will be sharing with you what makes St. Crispin’s such a high achieving, happy and positive school. This year, to help families plan the timing of the evening, we have enabled you to pre-book your seat online. (The reason being that our hall can only accommodate a certain number and so we are trying to avoid the disappointment of queuing up but not fitting in or indeed with Covid in mind being overly full.) By reserving a timeslot, we hope it allows you to manage your evening. You might like to tour first then come to the speech or listen to the speech then tour. If this approach doesn’t work forgive us! Equally given our present times and families understandably not wanting to gather in large groups we do have a recorded version of the speech that can be found on the website. To this end and in recognition of the pandemic I would ask that visitors, if they are willing to do so, wear masks in areas of the school where social distancing cannot be maintained.
We believe education is about developing the whole person, socially, emotionally and morally as well as academically. We have experienced, dedicated teachers who love learning and who are determined to make a difference to the young people they work with. The relationships between teachers, students and parents are fundamental to the success of the school. Working together, we can ensure that students enjoy their time at St. Crispin’s, make good progress and leave us as responsible, well-qualified, mature young people ready to make a valuable contribution to society.
Excellence for all Our expectations of the students, in terms of their achievement and behaviour, are very high. We expect all members of the school community to uphold the values of respect, tolerance, courtesy and cooperation. These are the principles at the heart of what we offer. I believe that St. Crispin’s School has a great many strengths, is far from complacent and has the drive to continue to do even better. Indeed our school vision statement “Excellence for all” encapsulates our intention to do the very best for our students. I consider it a privilege to be Headteacher and look forward to seeing you at this evening’s talks and at our upcoming Open Mornings. I do hope you leave this evening impressed with the warmth of our welcome and I look forward to meeting you in the near future. Yours faithfully, Ginny Rhodes Headteacher
