KINDERGARTEN 2 CONTENT & STRUCTURE Dear parents , Our Home Based Learning Kit has been specially prepared for you to help facilitate your child’s learning at home. The activities have been designed to replicate the activities that our teachers conduct in the classrooms and have been redesigned to help you facilitate it at home with your child. Thematic English Core ACTIVITY: MONDAY, 27 APRIL 2020 UNCLE TANG’S CABBAGES K2 MATERIALS : OBJECTIVES: 1) Story book – ‘Uncle Tang’s Cabbages’ (pdf) - Your child will be aware of good oral English 2) Video in Youtube: Cabbage Nursery Rhyme: models, from both the book and the spoken https://youtu.be/ndDB1RggRtU language. - Your child will be encouraged to talk about his/her own experiences related to the story. Lesson Development: 1) Invite your child to sing along a music video ‘Cabbage’: https://youtu.be/ndDB1RggRtU 2) Ask your child if he/she likes to eat cabbage. Ask your child if he/she knows where cabbages grow. 3) Introduce the author, illustrator, title and the cover page of the story book “Uncle Tang’s Cabbages” 4) Read the title of the book while pointing to the words. 5) Read the story to your child at a moderate space and point to words. 6) Reread the story and at each juncture, ask your child the following questions. 7) Invite your child to join in the repetitive word ‘cabbages’ and ‘If you look after the earth, the earth will look after you’ in the story. Questions for Discussion: 1) Can you tell me what do you see on this book cover? What do you think the story is about? 2) What is Uncle Tang’s occupation? 3) What was Uncle Tang’s advice to the children? 4) How many types of cabbages did Uncle Tang grow? What were they? 5) What was Uncle Tang’s reactions when the flood washed away his cabbages? 6) What did he do next? 7) What did Uncle Tang do with his muddy fields? 8) Why were floods good for the field? Thematic English Core ACTIVITY: WEDNESDAY, 29 APRIL 2020 CABBAGE EXPLORATION K2 MATERIALS : OBJECTIVES: 1) Cutting board - Your child will be able to build knowledge through 2) Knife exploration, experience, and discussion. 3) Red / purple cabbage (whole) 4) Green cabbage (whole) 5) A4 Paper 6) Writing materials Lesson Development: 1) Show your child the red and green cabbage while they are still a whole. 2) Have your child compare the sizes of the cabbages. (smaller / larger), shapes and weight (heavier / lighter) 3) Encourage your child to look closely and observe that the cabbage is made up leaves. 4) Peel one layer of the leaves and show to your child the leaf’s mid ribs and veins. 5) Draw a diagram on a piece of paper and point out the different components of the leaf. 6) Ask your child what he / she thinks the middle cabbage looks like. Is it one colour or many colours? 7) Cut the cabbage into half and show it to your child. 8) Ask your child what he / she sees. 9) Explain to your child that, a cabbage is a series of leaves squeezed and wrapped together. 10) Pass one piece of the purple cabbage and green cabbage to your child. 11) Have your child taste the cabbages. Prompt the questions below. 12) After the tasting activity, encourage your child to write his/her observations on the two cabbages on a piece of A4 paper. 13) Encourage your child to write which cabbage he/she prefers. Question for Discussions: 1) Do you think the two cabbages have the same taste or different taste? 2) Do you think the cabbage is crunchy? 3) Do you notice any difference between the two cabbages? 4) Do you like the green or the purple cabbage better? Thematic English Core ACTIVITY: MONDAY, 4 MAY 2020 Still life Painting K2 MATERIALS : OBJECTIVES: 1) Red / Purple cabbage - Your child will use a variety of art materials 2) Green Cabbage to explore ideas and emotions. 3) Drawing paper 4) Pencils 5) Black marker 6) Paint 7) Paintbrushes 8) Video in Youtube: Cabbage Nursery Rhyme https://youtu.be/ndDB1RggRtU Lesson Development: 1) Begin the activity by singing the song ‘Cabbage’ from the Video in Youtube: Cabbage Nursery Rhyme https://youtu.be/ndDB1RggRtU 2) Place and arrange the cabbages on the table. You may wish to have a whole or a half cabbage on the table. 3) Inform your child that he/she will draw what he/she sees on a drawing paper. 4) Encourage your child to fill the entire paper with the subject matter ( cabbages) 5) Have your child to focus on the lines that he/she sees on the cabbages. 6) Once your child has finished drawing, have him/her paint the cabbages. 7) Encourage him to focus on the colour shades of the cabbages.. 8) Guide your child to paint his/her drawing according to the colour tones of the cabbage. 9) Let the paint dry. 10) Invite your child to redraw the pencil markings with ink, using a black marker. Berinteraksi dengan anak anda berdasarkan ilustrasi di dalam buku. 6) Bacakan buku cerita dengan terperinci dengan mengenalkan kepada anak anda tentang teks yang ada di dalam buku. 7) Anda akan dapat mengenalkan tentang cara pembacaan yang betul dengan menuding setiap perkataan sambil membaca, daripada kiri ke kanan dan atas ke bawah. 8) Ajak anak anda untuk membaca dialog di dalam kotak perbualan di setiap lembaran. 9) Tukarkan nada suara anda mengikut watak di dalam buku. 10) Anda boleh menanyakan soalan-soalan yang sesuai mengikut setiap lembaran buku cerita. AKTIVITI HARIAN UNTUK BELAJAR DI RUMAH AKTIVITI (1 jam): RABU, 29 APRIL 2020 JOM BERAKSI DAN TEKA TADIKA 2 Peralatan / Bahan-bahan : Objektif: 1) Video di Youtube: Omar & Hana Pergi Anak anda akan berpeluang: Bercuti | Hidupan Laut: - Menyertai kegiatan Bahasa Melayu secara aktif https://youtu.be/LBDPJgC2Xrs dengan mengikuti arahan yang diberi. 2) Poster Haiwan Laut (Annex B) - Mempraktikkan kemahiran motor kasar, dengan melakukan berbagai aksi. - Mencuba meneka nama-nama binatang laut menerusi aksi yang di tunjukkan. Arahan: 1) Mulakan aktiviti hari ini dengan membaca ‘Doa sebelum Belajar’ (Annex A). 2) Ajak anak anda bersenam dan memanaskan badan, beri arahan seperti: 1. Angkat kedua tangan ke atas, turunkan tangan, dan hanyunkan tangan ke depan dan belakang. Ulang 3 kali. 2. Berlari-lari anak di tempat yang sama. Berhenti, kemudian, lompat ke atas dan turun kembali, sentuh lantai. Ulang 3 kali. 3. Loncat di tempat yang sama 5 kali, menggunakan sebelah kaki sahaja. Kemudian, duduk bersila sekejap kemudian, bangun kembali. Nota kepada Ibu bapa/ Waris: 1) Raikan segala usaha anak anda dan berseronok bersama. Meluangkan waktu bersama anak anda akan menimbulkan kebahagiaan dan sifat yakin pada diri sendiri untuk anak anda. Perhatian yang diberi ibu bapa terhadap anaknya, adalah sesuatu yang sangat didambakan oleh seorang anak.
