The Escape Room: Mission Impossible 28 June 2020 Story by: Jep Jing Sheng | Edited by: Ina Ong The Escape Room - Mission Impossible, organised by SEC (Student Executive Committee) was led by student leader, Raja Moris. An escape room is a specially designed themed room filled with puzzles and clues. The objective of the game is to successfully solve the puzzles co-operatively with your team using the clues given and ‘escape’ from the room within a given time frame. However, due to COVID-19, social distancing regulations are enforced with outdoor activities being unavailable. Escape Room- Mission Impossible is a virtual “Escape Room” conducted and enjoyed in the comfort of one’s home. This event is about meeting new friends, honing one’s leadership and communication skills as well as enhancing teamwork. Facilitated by The Fun Empire, groups of 6 were teamed up and placed in breakout rooms where each team competed with one another to be the first to complete the mission. Alas, none of the teams managed to ‘escape’ in time and thus, there were no winners for this event. Though it would have been fun should the original game be played with physical interaction, it was interesting and a first-time experience to play this virtually for most participants. We thank all participants for their active participation and fabulous teamwork! There are more online events coming your way! Regardless where you are and where you are from, YOU can participate in the events as well! Just remember “It’s always the small to FOLLOW and LIKE our Facebook and Instagram: Kaplan Campus Life. During this circuit breaker (CB) period, we could lose our spirit of togetherness; therefore, the creation of zoom game day. We played multiple online games via Zoom and had a good time together. Moments like these is when we truly realise how much our friends mean to us. The event reminds fellow HERO Cub members of a world that is still outside the computer screen and truly appreciate the moments spent with one another.
Silly Debates 27 June 2020 Story by: Moe Thiri Lwin | Edited by: Ina Ong Debating allows great interaction with your friends and it brings out the competitive edge you have. Moreover, when it is held in a ‘silly way’, it is even more enjoyable. This was exactly what transpired during our ‘Silly Debates’ event that was held on 27th June 2020. We started off with an enthralling ice-breaker ‘Whodunit’ which ignited the detective persona in each participant as they tried to unravel the truth from the statements made by each participant. Who will let the cat out of the bag? Secondly, there was a traditional game ‘Hangman’ which brought back memories of childhood as they attempted to guess the letters in the mystery word given. It was even more challenging as they were only given six tries before a stickman was sacrificed. Does that sound scary? Well, it was not. A hint was given after every fourth try to save the stickman. Finally, the highlight of the event; Silly Debates. A statement was given to each team to compete and refute against. They have to come up with justifications for their stance to be strong. This creates a competitive atmosphere amongst the participants. Hence, even though it was stated to be a fun and friendly debate, there were many thoughtful and strong propositions given. There were also opposing statements illustrated, eventually making the debate session creative and resourceful. Indeed, it was an enjoyable event, making it memorable for everyone including the participants and the KPSC Committee. We will be having many such events in the future, so why not spend your free time by joining us? Do keep a lookout for our future events! 3
Casting Your Career Net Beyond Singapore Story by: Hakim Asfee D ue to the current pandemic, employment opportunities are shrinking everywhere. According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Manpower on 15 June 2020, there are only 71 job vacancies for every 100 unemployed people in Singapore. This number is reported to be the lowest in a decade. In my personal opinion, the unemployment rate will continue to rise due to the economic slowdown which results in companies reducing employment needs. In addition, the number of fresh graduates who are completing their full-time studies and looking for job positions will add to the number of job seekers in Singapore. As a job seeker, perhaps it is time for you to consider your job search beyond the local shores. There are possibilities for you to venture out in other countries. Though this crisis affects markets worldwide, casting your job search further, not just in Singapore, will open more job opportunities. If you are open to gaining some overseas work and life experience, below are some websites that could help you start your job search outside Singapore. 5

For example, Indeed.com will have positions across the region. All you need to do is to search for “Indeed Canada” to look for opportunities in Canada. Otherwise, use your LinkedIn account to search for jobs in the location you desire. The list of vacancies might not be as extensive as the portals above but LinkedIn is a good platform to supplement your job search. Wishing you all the best in your career search and journey! How to make WFH fun and productive! 17 June 2020 Story by: Aster Heng In the month of June, the Kaplan Alumni Club organized an online workshop on how to make working from home fun and productive. We engaged an experienced speaker, Mr. Maximus Sia, to cover some tips and tricks on creating a conducive environment at home to enhance work productivity as well as ways to inject some fun to keep us motivated despite being in isolation. We are delighted to see our enthusiastic alumni sharing images of their current workspace and having a light-hearted exchange of ideas and workout routines to make working from home more manageable while keeping to a healthy lifestyle.
